There was a technology in Star Trek that made their version of "socialism" possible: Replication.
The ability to take matter and convert it into tangible items like food, clothing, or shelter at virtually no cost (well, at least not what WE consider "cost") would indeed make socialism possible.
However this is 2016. We do not have this kind of technology. With the advancement of 3D printing I would say something like Star Trek replication may become a reality 1 or 200 years down the road, but certainly not in our lifetimes.
