General Helmuth Von Pannwitz ,Born October 14, 1898 –murdered most foully January 16, 1947; a German General who distinguished himself as a Calvary officer during WWI and WWII; born into a family of Prussian nobility in Botzanowitz Silesia. He won the Iron Cross in WWII both 1st and 2nd Class. In WWII he was invested with the Knights Cross and reseived also the coveted OakLeaves. Pannwitz was instrumental from 1942 onwards in establishing Cossack volunteer forces, the XV Kosaken Kavallerie Korps (Cavalry corps) within the German Army (Wehrmarcht) which he then commanded on anti partisan duty in Yugoslavia. Because of the respect and understanding he always showed his troops Pannwitz became so overwhelmingly popular among his Cossack volunteers that, before the end of the war, they elected him “Feld Aataman”. That was the highest rank in the Cossack Heirachy, one that was traditionally reserved to the Tsar alone.
General Pannwitz surrendered on May 11, 1945 to British forces. His loyal troops were subsequently handed over to the Soviet forces by the British who were acting as they always have; as heartless, cruel, arrogant ,bastards. The gum chewing Yanks shared in this shamefull betrayel as well This is often referred to as the betrayal of Cossacks at Leinz. Most of them perished at the hands of the Reds (Soviet Smerch) or committed suicide to avoid being repatriated and subjected to torture beyond description by the foul monsters that awaited them. As Pannwitz was a German national he was told by the Limeys that he was not subject to repatriation to the Smersh murderers. None the less Pannwitz insisted that he would share the same fate of his men...

...and his fellow commanders, giving himself up to Soviet prosecution. He was heard to say, “These Cossack brothers of mine are the bravest soldiers and true comrades-“wither they goest - -there also I will go””.
He was publicly executed in Moscow on January 16, 1947, having been convicted of subversive and terrorist acts against the Soviet Union. In other words being an “efficient and successful soldier”, brave beyond words! Almost 50 years later on April 23 during the presidency of Boris Yeltsin members of the Pannwitz family petitioned for a posthumous verdict of acquittal of the 1946 conviction. The military high prosecutor in Moscow subsequently determined that no grounds existed for the original charges. On June 28, 2001 however exoneration was set aside in a ruling that disputed jurisdiction of the 1996 proceedings. Most think that the “traditional enemy” had struck again. Their influence is obviously worldwide! Helmuth v. Pannwitz was a hero of the West who tried to liberate a proud people of the east. The forces of proverbial darkness won that round!
In recent times & not long ago a monument to General V. Pannwitz and his Cossack soldiers that was in the courtyard of the Church of all Saints in Russia was utterly destroyed by human filth in an “ape fit” of wonton destruction.
This painting that was commissioned in the spirit of admiration for a brave warrior and martyr of the West is a fitting memorial to a man who in the religious world would be considered at least a saint in the tradition of Saint Michael . None the less he was a noble and brave soldier and a spirited dedicated European Hero , Surely the last of his kind
