Not sure guys; budget it 6500 but prices are fucked near me. There was a bone stock 06 zx6r with low k for 5500 but that sold within an hour. I had a 650r for a few years and learned how to ride on an old bored out 250 2 stroke so I know how to ride just unsure on the Yamaha or kawasaki. I had one for a few years. Red/blk/white. Best color combo. Other than being stupid heavy and huge.. And topping out around 145-150, it's a super comfy bike. I rode from Louisville, KY to Tampa in one day and could still walk afterwards. The reg/rec like to die a lot. And cam chain tensioner. Best to mod it to get rid of the rattle. Very solid bike though.

I used to ride dirtbikes with my step dad back when i was a young teen. I'm taking my MSF course this weekend, and I want to get a drz400 after I pass. How much hooning can you do on a drz compared to a crf125? I don't expect to do 5 foot jumps on it, but is the suspension good enough to do some fast pace trail riding and moderate jumps? It looks to be 120 pounds heavier so it seems like it would be abit harder to hoon about on.

Doesn't ring a bell. I wouldn't use different gearing unless you've done it yourself. -1/+2 is pretty common but you should try stock gearing first.

i didn't understand it for a long time either, but it comes mostly from countries with tiered licensing requirements, many of which require ABS bikes for new motorcyclists. lots of these fuckos ride hard on the brakes to the point where they're enabling the system just for kicks which obviously teaches bad habits.
but most of /dbt/ just hates ABS because it's a meme, and the people who go so far as to actually believe in it really just go from their gut feeling of the meme and walk backwards with the rationalization from there.

ABS on motorcycles is a whole different creature on motorcycles. In perfect conditions, it's great. But roads are rarely in perfect condition. It has to be a smooth surface for a bike to benefit from ABS.

my only experience with ABS bikes is the budget honda ABS system on the CB400SF and CBR500R and it was terrible, it intervenes at probably 70-80% of your total possible braking force (vic cb 400 will back me up here, he has a non ABS and has ridden an ABS version too).
I have 0% doubt I could outbrake that ABS system, 0%.
Locking up the front is not even a very big deal, if you're aware of the possibility it could happen it's very easy to deal with in a straight line.

I have an almost 15 year old cheap shit car with primitive ABS and it's pretty ghetto. Eearly ABS effectiveness is more at a "you might still be able to steer" level rather than actually making you stop faster. It can even be worse if the system is too chickenshit on low grip surfaces.
The ABS on say the low end Hondas is from what I've seen pretty similar to that, but I would think that pulsating bullshit would be a lot scarier on a bike where upsetting the balance will drop you on your face.
In general bike electronics are just less developed, anyways. There's still recent street bikes with carbs for fuck's sake.

Furthermore, 1900 is a lot to pay for a beginner bike. Especially since it's still a carbed bike. Get something like a 500 or even a 650. It'll still be forgiving enough for you to handle but you can actually have some fun and save up for a good quality big-bike without hating your life for the duration of the saving.

If you have any experience on 2 wheels then you should be fine on an FZ6. Take the MSF course beforehand though. The experience there should teach you a bit, but in terms of actual riding it's fine for a beginner.
