Yeah, they look way cooler than poor man harleys as they can actually hang. Perimeter brake feels good however the initial bite is not nearly as smooth as a traditional set up (mind you I also have the larger 8 piston ZTL2 caliper). It takes some careful modulation to not do a stoppie but once you get the feeling it is second nature and very consistent. I'm a huge fan. Clutch is also very light compared to most bikes. Mind you no slipper clutch on the XB12 but you don't need such luxuries anyways.

I'm pretty sure my next purchase will be KTM 1290 Adventure. But I intend to test ride both it and the GS1200 before I decide. I already have the K1600 and have thought about staying BMW since I already have tools and diagnostic devices for BMW. I don't plan to sell the K1600. But I have seen really good reviews of the KTM and honestly, I prefer the engine configuration to the boxer for off road use.

It's fun. My biggest issues (it's a 99) are that the rectifier went out (ate batteries), the suspension is soft (which isn't so bad; just wish it wasn't *quite* so soft), and that's really about it. The OEM handlebars are weak, and there's plenty of resources out there that'll tell you more than I ever could about them, but I like it. It's not powerful (36 or so HP is what mine delivers), but it's fun to rip on it because you can pin it and not get into too much trouble. I've also dropped it in such a way that it free revved slightly upside down and it has survived just fine.
If you have ethanol fuel, it can eat the float over time and that sucks. A lot.

2. Use tubeless tires but with tubes in your toolkit as well as a compact inflator.
3. I'm starting to fade from fatigue, but read up on what spares/tools to take. It'd also help to retrofit some of the fasteners to more common/less stripable fasteners e.g. Phillips head to metric hex.
