First I replaced the wheel bearings. Then I noticed it needed new swingarm bearings. Then I realized I need new upper and lower shock bearings. Broke the swingarm and got a new one. Then I decided I should replace the airbox so that big crack doesn't let so much dirt in. I had to take the subframe off for that because the airbox wraps around it.

I might take off the forks and put in fresh oil too.

This would be suffering if I didn't have a second bike to ride.

Did you crack the swingarm trying to get the bearings out or was it cracked from riding?

I'm about to do a full teardown on my KLX soon. Gonna refresh all the bearings, rebuild the rear of the frame, probably get it powdercoated, then put in a 351 kit. Should be fun.

Since I have it half way apart already I'm considering just taking everything apart for a good cleaning and checking everything, but I don't really have room to do that. As you can see, I'm working in a pretty tight barn that's kind of filthy.

No, I wear foam earplugs rated at 33db NR under my helmet, I can still hear anything I need to hear on the road, they cut the wind noise out completely though in my already fairly quiet helmet. They also make the drone of my loud exhaust more tolerable.

No, they're just grossly inferior cheap shit. There is literally not a single excuse for using them. A pair of Peltor triflange earplugs is $1.99 at walmart, they last years, and are worlds better. $15 gets you a set of Surefire earpro that is beyond compare.
This isn't the 1950s anymore, get with the times, and stop recommending low quality garbage to people.

Are you dumb?

They gave us reusable ear plugs to us in basic, they're shit, break easy, easy to lose and they get disgusting and they pop out with the slightest tug on them. They also don't seal if you don't put them in improperly. I'll use my box of super cheap foam earplugs that work just fine tuning out noise.
>>
>>14889376
Nowhere does OSHA stipulate that cheap piles of shit for ear pro are desirable. They are bottom of the barrel for whats acceptable. They are the $1 yellow plastic hardhat of hearing protection.

>What's wrong with leaving a sealed chain dirty anyway
There is a philosophy that sealed chains will actually deteriorate faster if they are oiled, since for the most part the oil will not reach the rollers and will only capture dirt on the chain to cause havoc. Jdowns rode something like 25k miles on a sealed chain never lubing it on his Super Sherpa riding around Mexico, Central, and South America mostly offroad.

I would still clean it though.

they're outdated and sportbike riders don't look at it which is a rather large target group. And for touring guys it probably looks too sporty.

I think it's best used for long trips and the occasional acceleration kick, you can just put so much miles on it because it's build like a tank. And It still does 0-200km/h in 11-12 seconds compared to a GSXR600 in 10 seconds.

sv650s for sale for 2500 dollars, only problem it seems is that it has a rebuilt status from having the exhaust totalled. Dude bought a brand new exhaust after, but insurance company labeled it "totalled" anyways because replacement would have cost "$1400 from lower fairings, paint and the exhaust".

2500 worth it? I'm thinking little less because of the title status.

I think I'm done fixing this. I fixed a vacuum leak and reverted everything to stock settings and we mostly good.

It still bogs down a bit when full wot below 4500rpms in 5th and 6th gears. If you open the throttle progressively it goes alrite. Let's talk helmets real quick, /dbt/. I'm in the market for a new full face but not sure what exactly I'm wanting just yet.

What brands are good for not being stupid expensive?
Graphic helmets or solids?
Should I invest in a mirrored visor or will that been seen as too tryhard (because I like the idea of gold mirrored)
Should I try to stick to muh color scheme or does that not matter in the land of bdt?

And finally, best online retailer? No one in my city has anything exceptional or reasonably priced.

Get a helmet you like. Check the reviews to be sure it isn't a piece of shit hunk of plastic and you're gold. most helmets under 200 dollars are thin, barely DOT legal, plastic POS that falls apart instantly, so check the reviews.

You can always change out mirrored for your clears. I'm pretty sure fog/smoked/tinted visors are illegal in most states after dark anyways.

There's no point in using mirrored or tinted face shields. Just use fucking sunglasses you nitwits. You can put sunglasses in your jacket pocket if it gets dark, way smarter than carrying a fucking extra visor.

- Makes you remember Goose dying
- Val Kilmer will never be young again

I've insurance, but I still have to pay a bit for glasses, especially for prescription sun glasses. And I need glasses for everything, so I have to get a regular pair which completely takes the "coverage," which leaves me having to pay the rest for another pair.

Otherwise it looks very clean though, oil change is a given as is carb cleaning since it sat for a while. Both minor things/general maintenance. I would at least look at it.

I'm checking out some bikes next weekend and ordered the stuff on Monday but apparently I live like 2 hours away from the warehouse so it's all here already. I know what to physically look for, but what about asking about oil changes, maintenance history, how recent the tires are etc.? Anything else to mention? I'm kind of nervous

For sport/standards these are the current staples
Honda CBR 250
Kawasaki Ninja 250
Yamaha YZF R3
Suzuki GW250

There are tons of cruiser style bikes, dual sports, and UJM style bikes that would fit you as well.

Browse through the manufacturers websites and cross reference with http://cycle-ergo.com/ to see how they'd fit you. A pair of riding boots will add about an inch to your height as well, so keep that in mind.

I know how to ride, just never had my own stuff/bike, just rode my uncle's who used to live nearby.

Bike doesn't have carbs, it's fairly newer, whether having fuel injection is a plus I'm not entirely sure

Good to know, thanks!

Lol no touring stuff is designed for the older, husky gentleman, whereas leather race suits etc. are designed for young skinny people, I've got a beer belly problem and really have to squeeze into my suit.

It really depends what you want to buy, I'd suggest just going to a bike shop and trying shit on.

Also try to find out when valve adjustment time is coming - it's usually like every 20-30,000 km, so only like three times in the life of a long lived bike, but it'll run you $500.

How fat is fat here? I can go upstairs without sweating and panting if that helps with perspective.
>>14890228
Than what the fuck is the point of riding?
>>14890241
Nah fuck that I don't want to be a touring riding fatass at 22. I've lost weight before but slowly gained some back thanks to fucking zoloft. I am sure I can do it again
