Over the next month or two I'm planning on getting my learner's permit (CA) and start shopping for a used dualsport, likely a KLR-650 or similar, plan is I'll ride around town for a month or two to get the basics down and then take a safety course the CHP runs to avoid the DMV test.

What are the general things I should look out for in regards to buying a used bike so that I don't get ripped off?

The honda CBR is the best bike in the world folks. I get calls all the time, the smartest people, they call me up and say how great the CBR is. Everyone says it, it wins every competition and every review site says so. These people these reviewers, they knew everything about bikes, and they're calling me to tell me they agree

The biggest flaws in the newer bikes is that they consume a lot of oil and the fairings are now brittle ABS plastic that has no business on a dual-sport.

The older bikes have indestructible tupperware fairings that don't care when you drop the bike.

I don't know about that, plenty can happen within 70-80 years.

I don't think I've seen bike stalls anywhere around here. Or maybe I just haven't noticed them. I was thinking I just had to park them in the normal parking spot, just all the way in the back where no one parks.

That's gonna be very difficult pham.

Try putting that chain you have on the floor on the sprocket, then securing the other end on something very solid and perhaps backing the bike against it.

Or you can somehow try to close that chain on the frame/handlebar and put it on sprocket.

Point being, without securing the sprocket in place (you can perhaps jam a wrench between the sprocket in the frame, but you're likely to break the wrench or dent something badly) I'm not sure how to go about it. I had a very hard time removing my front sprocket nut, even with a chain, rear brake and tons of leverage.

Oh. Well the 250 is a great bike to get confidence with, you'll feel like you can lean and corner and play with the throttle as much as you want and you'll feel that way quickly. Please don't do that. For the love of all vintage Hondas out there keep it stock. If you find one that's been chopped and messed with, fine. But don't ruin a stock bike.
>>
>>14890833
Honest answer: I don't know. I read it's something you should not do as it puts a lot of stress on the transmission, plus there's no certainty of it working.

Can you not put the bike together and then work on the sprockets?

Actually if you take that chain and wrap it on the sprocket, put the bike in neutral, and spin the sprocket counterclockwise until the chain touches the engine (on the left in pic) it will immobilize the sprocket. You can then put something between the chain and engine (tons of innertube or a rag) and try to use an impact wrench on it. Perhaps it won't stress the transmission as much as the bike won't be in gear.

At this point I'm just trying to give you ideas though. You can try to use the footpeg as somewhere to tie the chain too.

Likely the valves had to be adjusted looser, which would make them louder. Most of the time when your valves wear out they recede into the head and get tighter (quieter).
>>
>>14890893
He's talking about bobbing a rebel, not a 350

It doesn't really ruin the bike to change out the tank and fender, there's really no cutting to do it's just cosmetic and reversible

when i think of kit kat my dick gets hard and wants to start cumming and keep cumming til it cant cum anymore. i think of the way kit kat's lean ass cheeks look with a dick between them and even after ive cummed i get hard all over again. then i get to starting to think what kit kat's face looks full of cum and i bust out the pictures and then i go to town. i go through this cycle every night after work for about 4 hours until i pass out covered in sweat, semen, and my own feces. i wake up the next day, go to work, and come home and repeat the process.
>>
>>14890902
alright that's good news then because it's louder, but after looking up videos of the bike idling it makes sense. my mechanic is a master vintage builder anyway so i'll assume he didn't fuck up

>>

I think that would risk breaking the magnesium engine case.

I'm still waiting on the bearings for the rear brake, so I can't use that. Also I put the swingarm back on without the chain so that has to come off again anyway. I want to replace the counter shaft seal and counter shaft sprocket, and I think I'll need to leave the swingarm off for that seal so the chain guard doesn't get in the way.

I think I'm going to try jamming a block of wood between the teeth and the frame and taking an impact wrench to it tomorrow.

DESU cruisers are the ultimate troll. Straight pipes and just revving their engines all the time.
I can't see any purpose for cruisers other than trolling, rattling windows, waking people up, attention whoring.
They're not fast, some of them arn't even practical, they don't have a particularly long range, they don't normally have good wind resistance. They're not practical with carrying capacity.
Cruisers are for trolling first and foremost nowadays.

Motorcycles are safer lane splitting than in stop and go gridlock.
Everyone is just an idiot, because they think it's a "get to go first because motorcycle" so they are against it.
When really, it's safer because motorcycles are way out in front and out of the way of traffic, and less cars in gridlock, so it's better for everyone.

You're projecting behavior onto a motorcycle

I have a friend who rides a dynaglide and he's incredibly polite, they're only really loud when starting up on partial choke and when he wants it to be loud.

Cruisers aren't dickhole bikes, but a lot of dickholes ride cruisers.

i would feel bad about it if it actually impacted anyone. but bikes don't actually "steal" anyone's spot because they just zip through everyone. really, the only way we are actually effectively lengthening the amount of time you spend in traffic in a car is if you don't get over for us. only then are we taking up a "spot," but that's your fucking fault anyway. but i'm going to get by you eventually regardless of how hard you make it for me, intentionally or otherwise. it's legal in california and most people are actually pretty cool about it. most cars move out of your way if they notice you, which is nice. i have had a couple shitty incidents where people deliberately move into your way to try to make it impossible to split, but these are few and far between.

You might not be able to sympathize. But I'm an LEO, I'm just sitting there minding my own business trying to investigate a traffic crash, while direct traffic and some (I assume Doctor/lawyer) 1% rides by on his straight piped harley, revving it while starring at my soul.

>>
>>14891249

>>
>>14891237
The answer to the price thing is that the RR retailed as more expensive. There's differences in the suspension, brakes, and riding position, so the RR is more geared for the track while the F4i is more comfortable and good on the street.

Naturally, there's more demand for the RR because people want the fastest bike even if they're going to be going 35mph in traffic. So that brings up the RR price a bit.
