Shouldn't the point of experimental music be to discover new textures and sounds and ideas that can then be applied to popular music and stuff normal people will actually enjoy?
In normal experiments, people don't experiment for the sake of experimenting- they experiment in order to prove a thesis.
What's the value in experimenting for its own sake, endlessly?
Has there been any instances of experimental music ideas being then used in popular, mainstream music once the experiment is over?
Similar to this Mike Patton quote about his project Peeping Tom?
>"I don't listen to the radio, but if I did, this is what I'd want it to sound like. This is my version of pop music. In a way, this is an exercise for me: taking all these things I've learned over the years and putting them into a pop format. I've worked with many people who have said to me, 'oh you have a pop record in you, eventually you'll find it,' and I always laughed at them. I guess I owe them an apology."
I mean, I'm listening to some Matmos and Rachel's, and I really don't get it. It's not enjoyable, but there ARE some cool sounds and ideas in it. Why not take those things and put them in normal songs in order to expand pop music? Why segregate the weird ideas to music nobody likes and then leave popular music stagnated with no new ideas or experimentation?

Some people like to listen to new, interesting, refreshing sounds
I don't understand how this can be a hard concept
>In normal experiments, people don't experiment for the sake of experimenting- they experiment in order to prove a thesis.
What do you mean by "normal experiments"?
I'll give you an example. So I was looking up 'post-rock' in wikipedia in order to figure out what the fuck it meant, and I found this picture.
It looks retarded, but I realized they're doing something with the amp and the guitar to create some weird sound. So why not take these experiments and then put them on the radio in a real rock song people can sing along to and enjoy? like, I can see people doing "experimental" music like this picture if it was a case of "let's do something unique to this generic rock song and make is special. let's try THIS. no, let's try THIS. no, that sounded cool, can you replicate that? ok, let's try that but sped up/slowed down/ etc.."
I mean, I know I sound like a normie non-hipster retard, but I really am in terms of music, I don't get avant garde or weird hipster experimental music at all, or noise, or drone, or any of that shit. but I do love experimental film.
I mean, to me, the point of experimental film, for instance, is not "I want to make an experimental film," it's "I have an idea for a film, and the idea's never been done this way before, but I'm gonna try it and see if it works." That's what separates good experimental filmmakers from poor ones. It's more about ideas, not experimentation for its own sake.

So do we hate this album now? I could have sworn we loved it like three months ago, but now it seems like no one can post it without being called a pleb or a faggot.
It's one of my favorites on the /mu/core chart, but it seems like we should take it off.

Although it's considered to be one of the greatest rock records of all time, it's famously been known to be mixed pretty poorly. With bowie's mix being too thin and iggy's 97 remix caked with digital distortion and everything clipped. They had a recent remaster in 2010, What is your favorite mix of Raw power and why?
the original, its so bad that its good

Good one OP
I feel a weird sadness on some parts on this album, like MmmHmm and Table Tennis.
It really helps to know the backstory of the album too, and how her the sounds of her life support machines were used in Table Tennis.
This made me cry while driving alone more than any other album. from that weird brand of melancholy happiness

you are a genuinely unlikeable, unpleasant person to be around. additionally, you are extremeley stupid. you have hilitosis, lumbago, invountary celibacy, you wear a fedora that says mra in smeared blue dry erase marker on the brim, cattarhs, consumption, greasy stool due 2ndary to olestra; you stink of cumin, tumperic, paprika, and cayanne pepper; mucous constantly drips from your eyes and you go about your day with those eye crystal boogers dangling from your eyelashes; you complain loudly to all and sundy about your thin, watery jizzum payloads which you claim are a result of your prescription ssris; you are self-centered, maudlin, whining, and you affecta british accent so ppl will think you're smart and say cheers intead of thank you; you constantly slouch, which emphasizes your disgusting pear shaped body and stick arms; you have a polyp on vocal cords that gives your speech a rasping quality, and it sounds like you are a sieve of saliva when you speak; you are completely unable to form or maintain interpersonal relationships with other humans, and even your insanely stupid yapping dog finds your presence more or less intolerable; you have been wearing the same briefs for 4 days; recently you have begun to pluck your nose hairs in public, as well as scratch your ear canals with your index finger. for these reasons, as well as many unlisted, you have amassed hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of terrible posts accross several different internet forums over he past 14 years or so.

yes, but hes not a pussy about it like most cringe worthy tumblr tier artists. he makes his points by emulating the worst things in humanity. Sort of like a trump supporter arguing that trump is good because racism rocks.
