Welcome to the weekly /mu/ jazz Blindfold Test thread. This week I am pleased to announce we have a new guest who has compiled the tracklist for next week.
If you're new, the point of these threads is to encourage critical listening, discussion, and general enjoyment of jazz. All critical music listeners are welcome. The more participation we have, the more fun and successful these threads will be. In the interest of keeping the thread alive and bumped, any general jazz discussion is welcomed here as well.
For more information about how the threads work and listening suggestions, please refer to the pastebin: http://pastebin.com/2yCLLBrj
This week's theme is: MONK TUNES
Tracks were selected by: JAZZTHREADGUY
Next week's theme is: IMPULSE!
Tracks were selected by: BLINDFOLDTEST
If you missed last week's thread, DON'T WORRY. It's not too late. Here are the links for the mystery tracklist. Download the tracks, record your thoughts/guesses/evaluations for each one, and then come back and post them in the thread. Remember, people will be posting guesses and thoughts in this thread so don't read the thread until you have listened to the music and collected your thoughts in order to avoid spoilers. Track info for this week's tracks will be posted at roughly 8:00 PM (EST)

I really like the sound of pic related instrument.
Can you recommend me some albums?
Any gender is cool.
>>60562468
That's pretty good. Thanks, anon.
Is catchy music for plebs?
>>60562347
Some classical is catchy nad it's patrician
plebs are people who aren't rich
I you find anything catchy, you are the pleb.
ITT post an image and let another user post what piece of music it makes them think of or feel like. YT links are best. If you post music, post an image of your own. I'll start.

>you're face to face with the man who sold the world
what did he mean by this?
>>60562035
did you rike it?
Is that Swery
>>60562035
You mean the man who created a female character with unnecessary sexualization? And his excuse was she breathe through her skin? And gamers wonder why people hate them so much.
ITT: Albums that weren't intended to be seasonal but sound better in the fall/winter.
Can we have a nice prog thread? :3
Okay.
>>60561899
That is a pretty good album anon.
Here, have an israeli prog album that is actually really really good
so, I just started listening to FZ with this record and I really like it, but his catalogue is so damn huge I don't know where to continue. what's the best one? which Frank would you Zappa?
>>60561888
It really is kinda tough getting started with him, but you chose a fantastic starting point.
For more like that album listen to Over-Nite Sensation, Apostrophe, Roxy and Elsewhere and Zoot Allures.
If you want to hear his more Jazzy and instrumental side try out Hot Rats, Waka/Jawaka and The Grand Wazoo. Also his guitar solo oriented albums such as Shut Up N' Play Yer Guitar and Guitar are great.
For his more satirical and comedic side start at the beginning with The Mothers of Invention albums, Freak Out, Absolutely Free and We're Only In It for the Money.
And then there's also great albums like Joe's Garage, Sheik Yerbouti and You Are What You Is which kinda mix his One Size Fits all style with more straightforward Rock music and his humorous side.
uncle meat and burnt weeny sandwich capture his proggier side like one size fits all
>>60562022
Thanks anon, gonna check out Zoot Allures and Sheik just because of those titles. I think I'm gonna be more interested in the fusion-y side of his stuff than the humorous overall though.
Supposedly great albums that you can't get into.

What is the greatest song of all time and why is it Oh Yeah by Can?
are you sure it isn't grosse fugue by wolfgang von bach?
>>60561657
Pretty sure. I don't think that song even exists.
>>60561635
Not even in the top 5 of that album.
Post albums that are obvious patrician filters.
Albums that only plebeians enjoy and patricians like me avoid at all cost.
I'll start with the obvious.
Nice pick >>60561622
another obvious one
>>60561622
not emo
>>60561622
This album is p enjoyable op
This is objectively the correct rating for Radiohead's albums.
in rainbows is identical to king of limbs
both are shit and shouldn't be rated higher than 2.5
>>60561550
Pablo Honey should be ~3.0
the rest should all be .5 point lower
>>60561577
You're a fucking idiot, m8.
Post albums that at first you didn't enjoy but slowly grown on you and albums that you liked it at your first listen however it eventually became stale.
I'll start with some classic rock, I always found Daydream Nation to be very bland but giving it another go, I can see now why it is considered to be GOAT. As for London Calling, I think the style of it eventually loses its touch in the 21st century. Listening to it again, I can't help but feel how cheesy the music is.

Yeah that's a better word for it, English isn't my main language, strange that I learn something on /mu/
Young prayer started for me as something very obnoxious but eventually listening to it teleports me into another dimension where it is only me and the peace surrounding it. I can compare it to meditating without the need to be patient and crossing your legs and making it numb. YS sadly just seem to sound like squeaks and chips the more you hear it. Its like a bird has taken over Joanna's position.
