Are NME the worst Music Reviewers ever?
>>60713446
>>60713519
I mean obviously AM is a far greater musical achievement than Laughing Stock, right??

Yes
Is there anyone else like nick drake?

>>60713447

Unfortunately not. Damn I wish he made more than three albums.
This album still exists.
Whatever your favorite album is, it is probably shit in comparison.

You're new or just very closed minded
>>60713316
Are you sure?
>>60713695
I am positive. Yes is total wank garbo.
Where do you stand in the Pyramid of Taste?
I've enjoyed artists from each level but I and III have my favorite styles.
>>60713269
The higher I got is III with free jazz and furniture music. Baroque pop should be one step higher. I mean, it's actually lower than New Wave (?!) and all kinds of rock.
I didn't find post punk, dodecaphony or dadaism, ony serialism.
What's stopping me from stealing someone's riff and then putting it in a constant loop and I just reverb the fuck out of it and feed it plugins until it sounds like popcorn in the microwave and then I just record myself screaming and layer it 3 minutes in and finish "my song" and then I photoshop a picture of wooden baby blocks next to a pyramid and slap a name on it like "nutseed library" and then I keep doing this until you faggots find my shit and start eating it up
Welcome to the weekly /mu/ jazz Blindfold Test thread. I'm starting the thread this week because the normal guy who does it said he can't post until later tonight I think. I can't really keep the thread bumped for long because I am just in between flights at the airport right now.
If you're new, the point of these threads is to encourage critical listening, discussion, and general enjoyment of jazz. All critical music listeners are welcome. The more participation we have, the more fun and successful these threads will be. In the interest of keeping the thread alive and bumped, any general jazz discussion is welcomed here as well.
For more information about how the threads work and listening suggestions, please refer to the pastebin: http://pastebin.com/2yCLLBrj
This week's theme is: Impulse!

If you missed last week's thread, DON'T WORRY. It's not too late. Here are the links for the mystery tracklist. Download the tracks, record your thoughts/guesses/evaluations for each one, and then come back and post them in the thread. Remember, people will be posting guesses and thoughts in this thread so don't read the thread until you have listened to the music and collected your thoughts in order to avoid spoilers. Track info for this week's tracks will be posted at roughly 8:00 PM (EST)

#dedicationto/blindfold/
Contributing a bump and I'll post track reviews then.
like 3/4 listens
1)
That drum is really hitting hard and I think he's the most famous guy from the record. The sound remainds me of Art blakey but the style is completely different. Maybe Tony Williams?
2) High free vibes here. really unsetting and challenging
3) some more "classical". dont really know the bill evans style but may be him since it's clearly a trio spinning around a piano. the quality of recording is not as good as the tracks before.maybe chick corea. I dont think it's modal but it uses a blues progression
4)
It's a dissonant orchestra, could be sun ra, the drum reminds me of (1), could be the same. could be anything, the sax may be the central guy but I dont recongize him (it reminds me of albert ayler)
desu it's quite good and reminds me of Out to lunch!
5) for sure post 60s, I would say about 65 it's all very engaging.
6)what
7) FUCKING CARAVAN DUDE. Have no idea who is playing. Maybe miles? for sure not art blakey
implying both artists ever had a release on impulse
8)what
10) well hello Coltrane, how you doin?
first time I do this

Not much else to do during my hour layover and free wifi. I figured I'd check if anybody had started the thread. I'm dl'ing the tracks now so I will probably listen to them on my flight and post again in a few hours. Hopefully the thread stays bumped.
Does it annoy you when an album doesn't get an official cover? I don't appreciate these sorts of choices.
it does actually
No, that way I can pick the best one myself.
I wonder how geo is gonna feel when his cover has the least amount sold
I am wondering what people think of anthony fantano coming out as a opponent of modern day feminism. I have been wanting to call myself a feminist for a while now, because my views are very liberal, feminist views are very liberal as well. It seems as though people like the amazing atheist, sargon of akkad, and the needle drop can be very misleading. They are smart people attacking things with valid points. The problem though is that the things they attack misrepresent feminism, they never seem to turn around and say "a real feminist would never say this". I know, because I've followed the needle drop saga and watched many episodes of the amazing atheist over the course of some years and recently sargon of akkad, who I both respect very highly.
GO AWAY ANTHONY
Modern feminism is a joke and he's right for criticizing it.

Hi,
I wanna acquire a drum machine and I'm thinking of buying a Roland TR-606. Is that a good piece? Any advice on what I should buy? I'm doing electro noise kinda like Cheveu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fovGAYSqLrc
>>60712804
The drum machine in that track is something like a Yamaha RX5 or some other sample based machine from the late 80-early 90s.
>>60712804
Check out Paranoid London's self titled release for a good example of lo fi 606 fuckery, especially the track Light Tunnel. If that sounds good to you then the 606 isn't a bad choice.
>>60712804
this big black has a 606 however their albums used 707's
