so /mu/ how many of you are actual musicians instead of fags that think just listening to music makes you as knowledgeable as the next guy

i thought i was going to be a jazz musician until i realized that doing so meant you had to be playing with professional proficiency by age 16
I've played guitar and piano for about 12 years.
What did you listen to in high school? Do you still enjoy the music you did back then?
Coheed and Cambria
Glassjaw
Thursday
Rufio
New Found Glory
The Ataris
Finch
AFI
etc.
and yes.
I had pretty shit taste in high school, but I still like about 60% of what I used to like... same with middle school.
im still in high school
I had no Idea Nirvana was ever this good, Scoff is my favorite song on the album and one of the greatest 'rock' songs i've ever personally heard.
You guys are being ironic when you hate this right?
I could see a resurgence in Nirvanas fanbase through appreciation of this album. Which is evident here.

Why does everyone either think that Young Thug is a genius who's ahead of his time or he's absolute trash? imo he makes pretty good music, i enjoy most of his stuff, but he's nowhere close to being a genius. i mean there's obviously nothing much to the lyrics, idk why P4K tries to insert something in there.

Young Thug just might be the most important musician of his generation. Barter 6's barely there production doesn’t so much frame his rapping as it does provide a surface for his words to dance upon, to explore the art of rapping in multiple dimensions: melodically, rhythmically, lyrically, and in terms of composition. His voice glides through the thick absence of sound. He’s responsible for a lot of the songwriting; he knocks out his own hooks, and his writing speaks to his use of phrasing, his backgrounds,...

This is absolute b8 but it's actually accurate
Does /mu/ know where I can find some transcriptions of the music from Trout Mask Replica? Arrangements? Notation? Tabs?
It's such a tight work, I always felt like this is the sort of music you should be able to find in full score at a university library or something. In ways much more mysterious than Zappa's work (which I *have* found in university libraries).
Also, Beefheart thread? What's your story getting into his shit?

>I always felt like this is the sort of music you should be able to find in full score at a university library or something.
Rock music isn't serious art, so it wouldn't be there.
> In ways much more mysterious than Zappa's work (which I *have* found in university libraries).
His classical works, or his rock works?

>listening to captain beefheart and his magic dads

>rock music isn't serious art
Maybe not serious, but I think it's important. TMR anyway is original and good art, even if not "serious" per se. Having dealt with academia however, I hear ya...

Post albums you love that everyone else hates.
why is this the only burzum album that usually gets mentioned? are the rest just shit?
>>61214038
It's because it's his most popular. His other albums range from also as great to boring.
>>61214038
no. the rest aren't as good
people who like to feel special will say hvis is better though even though they're wrong
that being said you shouldnt give the other albums a try
>>61214038
I personally think his work has improved with age.
My personal favorite is Umskiptar. Spent two weeks in central Norway the year it came out, listening to it while wandering fjords and on the train. It was nothing but comfiness.
