That's not an issue with the anime, that's your computer. Either the video player isn't optimized for that kind of resolution (and any freeware VP has no quality control or standards), you're computer isn't up to playing the video at that kind of resolution, or your downloading from a 3rd party site and the files got degraded either during capture or reformating.

Thing is that having watched my fair share of CGI-hybridized anime myself, I can't rule out the chances of there being intentionally choppy animation, some animators subscribe to that philosophy of choppy being less conspicuous than smooth when put up alongside traditional animation.
So while I may describe it as dropped frames, I also suspect it is just style, and either way it just kinda peeves me off for some reason.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I wasn't really won over by Orange, and I didn't feel like committing to the whole show just to see more money shots, and once the technical appeal of the show no longer existed for me there wasn't much else about it that I cared for.

An entirely unoriginal series that plays it's cliches very well.
It's got a color coded five man band that is none the less well developed. It's got suspiciously human aliens. It's got MECHA IN SPACE. It's got beam weapons and beam spams and explosions and very little stock footage that they either disguised or lampshaded (launch sequences etc.).
It's also got some of the best action sequences that I've every seen. Dynamic camera angles, colorful mechs, moves so fast that you need to frame by frame it to catch all the action.

That's a pretty good description. MJP is an example of how to do cliche and derivative elements right.
The cast is entertaining and endearing to watch, especially to dorky Izuru, and the action is great. Also some of the comedy hijinks are actually funny sometimes. The gag about the cast watching a porn video always got a chuckle out of me.
I'd also argue this is one the few times the infamous Hirai face works, because his art style makes some great cartoon comedy faces.
Surprisingly subtle. You think the main characters fit into some animu stereotypes too well? There's an actual in-universe reason for that.
MJP seems generic at first but while the plot setup is nothing original, it does interesting things with it. It's a story of nature vs nurture, acting on your ~feelings~ vs discipline: but this time, the bad guys are nature.
Great battle animation, likeable cast. It's more than okay.

well I certainly wouldn't argue that shit picked up fast in the later episodes but that slow burn was kind of important for establishing the cast of characters and world. We really got a sense of who the fail 5 where in those episodes and honestly they really made me care a lot more about them when shit started hitting the fan.

Also, I still find it hilarious that the entire series was basically an original only sharing the name and cast names. -b:v alone makes it try to keep that bitrate through the whole video, but adding -crf lets it use a lower bitrate when there's less going on leading to more efficient use of file size.

I just like 720x404/5. It seems to be the sweetspot for retaining a certain sharpness I like. It also fits nicely on my screen, the way I like to have my thread watcher, text size, and reply box set-up.
I typically cut something by frames in webm for retards since it's really easy then encode it at full res and lossless, then go over and open it in xmedia and run it at a variable rate, change the resolution, add a filter if I want. It sometimes takes a while gauging the bit rate range, but they tend to look a little less fuzzy for me. I do use rate control but rather sparingly since I don't really care about making the resolution bigger.
