I think I've come full circle /k/..i grew up looking at ARs with the carry handle, to obsessing about rails, to appreciating the classic look of the A2 again..
Now I have a chance to get a 20inch A2, but I feel uneasey about doing so..The only appeal is that, I wouldnt mind the irons because i don't have money to dump on expensive optics anyways.
KISS. If you have the chance to get an A2 then by all means get it. You can always swap parts around later on to fit your needs.

So, /k/, put my first ar15 together. Was taking apart the bcg, put it back together...the firing pin retaining pin is in, but it seems to be poking out a bit. I've re-inserted, re-positioned, wriggled, tapped...that's as far as it wants to go. Is that OK?

I wouldn't worry about it. I never checked the headspace on my SMLE and nothing bad has happened. People on internet forums have a tendency to take everything super seriously so they can feel vicariously important. also the loudest, most obnoxious uses are usually the most visible.
With that said, if anything bad does happen, remember it was the other guy's fault, not mine.
I would check it. Enfields actually had different bolt bodies to overcome receiver stretch over time, so unless you are confident that the bolt matches the rifle and that it had been checked relatively recently it would be a good idea. Ruptured casings can be pretty dangerous. If you disregard this advice, at least wear good eye protection.

Do they wear protective garments just in case? Do they just try and keep themselves empty at all times when outside the wire so it doesn't happen? Do they just deal with the mess until they can get back to base and clean up?
