Anybody have and resources or inspo for tri-fold poster design?
I'm working on a poster for an engineering course. It seems as if, in the STEM world, all presentation posters use ugly gradients and boring fonts (pic related). I understand the need to keep presented data sterile and unambiguous, but there must be a more visually-appealing way.
Another example.
Maybe use a more attractive font?
Hey /gd/, there's no video editor section so hopefully this is a good spot to get info. Anyone know any good places for iMovie plung ins for effects and sounds? Also check out my latest editing work and provide tips if you can please. http://youtu.be/W0eoUHpN6BM

>iMovie plugins
I don't think those exist besides the official ones

If you are serious about editing, learn Premiere or Final Cut. The workflow is pretty much the same as in iMovie, there are tons of plug-ins and resources and is something you can actually put in a resume.
Learning AfterEffects for the titles and everything that's not strictly linear video editing won't hurt...

I don't really want to suds rube to Adobe, and I can't just straight up buy the siftware anymore. I do have after effects cs6 though, so I'll google tutorials on that. Thank you!!!

do the first 3 ones and then jump to titles
afterwards you are ready for the regular (non-basic) tuts
How's this shit even possible?

Probably has a reference on his second screen. Something stenciled in photoshop.
I do this art style (layered shadows) ALL DAY at my work, it's the brand style, and I can tell you without a reference it's borderline impossible, certainly not a case of the right shapes first time.
How does an amateur make a not-shitty logo? I've got a half-baked idea for one to use in a project i'm doing but I know absolutely fucking nothing. Help?
>>262788
Google.
Research.
Write a list.
Sketch.
Ask for IRL critique.
Read a book.
And finally, don't believe that there's a be-all-end-all metric for what is a not-shitty logo. It all depends on what it's applied to and for, and that we'll all have opinions on what is a good one.
How does an amateur painter make a not-shitty painting?
They paint a lot.
If you have a project currently in the works, you're not gonna git gud in time to make a decent logo for it. It'll almost always take years of hard work to become decent.
What's the best way to achieve this style of type?
Is it dragging it out over a scanner and then live tracing in illustrator?
Or is there a better process to do this?
Last decent example I have
>>262776
Either they did it properly with a scanner and then cleaned things up/traced. Or you just do it all with warp/distort tools in software.

How can I achieve effect like this?
radial blur?

Kinda had an idea, but too lazy to test on my own. Anyway, thanks bb.
radial blur
Never had much practice making logos, need some advice.
I have to reinvent a few logos from an old game (Wipeout) as exercise for design class, this is one of them.
I've made a few variants, not really too keen on any of them so I'd like some opinions on which ones are better and why / how to improve them.
>>262431
i didn't like any of those not even the ones by the designers republic. i always start by drawing some sketches first then choosing the ones i like the most and make some variations of those. try drawing the originals and see where that leads you'll be surprised just forget about the colors and try to see the overall shape.
You're missing the F shape in every other version of their logo
>>262434
Thanks, I'll try to lay down some sketches later
>>262452
tried to make the F more evident in this one
I'm not just talking about free psd files, I can dig that shit up myself. I'm trying to find any resources on how I might mockup physical product design and make it look like something that could be churned out of a print shop / factory.
I'm designing a brewery's visual identity right now for what's essentially my final design project for my undergrad. I'd like to make a physical six pack and maybe a larger size box to demonstrate how the design would look in real life. The problem I can't get around, however, is printing on cardboard....

Also legitimately considering stopping by the woodshop we (students) have access to and cutting out a simple tap handle with the logotype I designed on it.
Side note: I feel like a type company could really cash in on updating Sport Script (pictured left, been around for ages). If only I had the skills... Maybe one day.
Underside of a six pack.
Anyone know how to make a gradient follow a pen-tool path in Photoshop? Pic related.
self bump. come on. is this not a graphic design board?
So you can add a stroke to a pentool, from there you can find gradients to add.
Just found this from google
>http://pugetworks.com/blog/2012/04/making-gradients-along-a-path-in-photoshop-and-illustrator/
>>>>262389
Yes, but it's a really slow board, and you could have asked this in the stupid questions thread, stupid.
I don't know what is happening with my selection tool so I don't know how to search for help on google...
When I have a single layer like in the image, I use the magic wand to select either the inside or the outside, but it's selecting all the white, and ignoring the fact that the two white sections are bounded by black pixels.
It suddenly started during a project and I'm sure it's some keybinding or setting that I didn't realize I turned on.
My brightness/contrast is also acting strange, where it's not actually darkening...

Even better example... I selected a single white area and it selects ALL the white.
Figured it out. Apparently I need "contiguous" selected on the tool properties.
Learned something new today.
Still unsure about the brightness thing. Seems to be just the file I'm working on, not digital photos.

lol it even selected your interface colors
you should reinstall tho

Also, would hardly be a symbol if there are letters intertwined in it. Layering letters is not a good idea either. I wouldn't bother trying to sketch it out for you, the brief doesn't work for me.
Thanks ano
ideally would have to guess the letters
I have a project for school where I need to make a website about something I like and I chose to make a fallout 4 fan page. Unfortunately I live outside of the US and the principle of fair use doesn't apply in my country.
I had made a logo with one of the bobble heads from the game but I need written permission from Bethesda that I can use it for my project but honestly it's fucking impossible to get in touch with them so fuck that.
I'm a back end web developer and i suck at graphic design. I can't change the theme of the website either but...

>>261922
Are you going to make money with your fake fan page?
If not, I don't think any country in the civilized world would be against using IP work for dummy and school projects.
>>261923
Oh no, no money will be made. It's strictly just for a school project. The problem is that a criteria for the project is that all material must be licensed. I'm not scared by being hunted down by Bethesda's legal team, but my initial logo has already been scrapped by my teacher unless I get permission from Bethesda
>>261925
Lol what the fuck is your teacher thinking? Its not like bethesta will be interest in working with school projects. My teacher only requires citing the photos or any material from the web and thats it

Are you one of those guys who basically lays out copy?
Same as you OP. Studied ID but now have part time job doing CAD work and some graphic work. Looking for a product design job still though....
(btw where do ID guys post? I find myself here and on /3/)
