What cheap Chinese tech have you bought, and would you recommend it?

Yes, we know everything is already from China but in here we discuss the no/low-name cheap shit you see on eBay, AliExpress, Gearbest and similar sites.

Well my i5 plus smartband has been on for a week and is at 50% battery. Really great device. Only if there were more features(music play/pause?).

The xiaomi bluetooth speaker is pretty great too. Battery lasts hours and sounds clear. Some distortion when you put it at 80% or higher.

Good chinky products overall.

Yes, but expensive so not worth it, unless you're okay with paying for luxury accesories(because that's what the Mi5 is).

I bought a headset w/ a mic for $5 on Amazon. The brand is "iMicro" and the model is SP-IM942. Sadly, this has the best mic I've ever owned. Definitely do recommend, for the mic's audio quality it's a steal.

I haven't been there for few weeks. Tell me what changed.
I see you got nice news in OP. Are shitposters still shitposting about the general's name?

Also, updates from me. Everything from pic related already came.

>HDD
Already covered it earlier. Now it has 228 power on hours, still works like a charm.
Sadly, as I noticed today, the store no longer offers MaxDigital HDDs. The store itself isn't gone, so there is a chance they might come back or can be bought "off-shelf" through contact with seller.

>mouse pad
Very comfortable, good print quality. Only the rubber on bottom stinks horribly. Perfumes kill the smell, so it's not a big deal.
The silicon wrist rest seems to be supported from bottom and edges with some harder material, so there shouldn't be problem with it leaking at the edges of material, like in some anon's pic.

>USB female to male splitter
>USB male to female splitter
>USB flat extension cable
All are really solid, all 28AWG/1P+24AWG/2C (read: good).
The flat one feels really reliable.
Only fuck up from my side is that male to 2x female doesn't work as a hub and the "working" port seems quite random (but stays unchanged while devices are connected). I use it for charging, so it's not a big deal.

>KKMOON keyboard
Already got used to it, it's perfect. Scissor switches, feels really light, all functional keys work.

>LD microSD cards, 2x 64GB
Tested them with CrystalDiskMark, no pics though.
Seq 32Q1T R: 90 W: 30
Seq R: 90 W: 22
I noticed that the first partition starts at around 32M by default. Worth noting, as the card might be optimized for exFAT at this alignment, better keep in mind while reformatting.
A good read:
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/SDCard
https://wiki.linaro.org/WorkingGroups/KernelArchived/Projects/FlashCardSurvey

>USB 3.0 microSD reader
Some anon claimed it wasn't 3.0, he was full of shit. Used it to test above cards.
The package also featured one TF to SD adapter.

>OrangePi
Can't say much, barely tested it. Comes unassembled.

Hey /csg/, I noticed on the GearBest page for the Xiaomi XiaoYi Night Vision Camera it says "Perfectly fit for Xiaomi AC router, you can record video directly on the router 1TB hard drive." What the hell does this even mean? That SoC is so old and weak that I doubt it can play Youtube videos without crappy it self.

You want cheap as fuck? then yeah get the HT7 but be aware that even if it last you as long as the S3 did, you will not find battery replacements for the HT7 so you will have to remove the power controller from the original battery and Frankenstein it to a new battery in about 1-2 years.

I would recommend getting something a bit more expensive but from a more reputable brand, HomTom is just Doogee child, and they are not know for making quality devices.

I would go for the

Cubot Note S - $80
2GB RAM - 16GB Internal
5.5" IPS 720p screen
MT6580 Quad Core @ 1.2GHz (similar to the Galaxy S3 CPU)
5MP camera interpolated to 8MP, the quality of the images is pretty good for a 5MP camera and the flash is nice, totally usable
4150mAh battery, shit lasted me 8:30hours of screen time (downside, it charges pretty slow due the seize, about 4 hours for full charge, but taking into account that it should last you 2-3 days of moderate usage or 2 of heavy usage, shit is not problematic, just charge it overnight every 2 days.

Or get the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 - $130
2GB of RAM + 16Gb Internal
5.5" IPS 1080p screen
Helio X10 Octa Core @ 2.0GHz (Similar in performance to the Galaxy S5)
13MP Camera really good for the price range, strong flash
3000mAh battery, about 4 hours of screen time

If you are going to go cheap get the HT7.

Here are some things that you can do with a smartphone that you can't with a burner:

- GPS in the car
- use messaging services besides SMS/email, such as Skype or WhatsApp
- type at a reasonable speed
- look information up on Wikipedia
- check orders on AliExpress or Amazon
- read documents that are emailed to you
- play your own music in the car
- do complicated calculations or graph equations on Wolfram
- like a thousand other legitimate uses that aren't snapchat or games

I mean, I'm not saying that being glued to your smartphone 24/7 is good, or that it doesn't have the potential for wasting your time, but it's not like owning a smartphone makes it impossible to actually interact with other people (unless you have impulse control issues or social anxiety or something).

Ok xiaomi friends, I'm working on a way to unlock bands for US carriers with my Redmi 3. The Note 3 Prp already has documented support for 2, 4, 5,. So far I've got band 25 to connect intermittently, bud ultimately I'm going to try and get some of the information/decimal values/bin file from a Huawei Honor 5X since it's a SD 616 but works in the US. I need to flash a rooted rom tomorrow since none of the current rooting methods listed in miui forums work (the one-click apps are all chinese and kingroot doesn't work). Will update if I find a way to get more 4G.

Lucky cunts. I think it just depends on airport staff and how much they want to fuck you over. Apparently some have gotten off with only a fine and confiscation but my mate was unlucky. Probably because he was brown and IS was starting to be a big thing back then.
Also, I think the cc knife and/or that keychain is a bit different as it is technically being concealed and deceptive. We technically can't even carry or use pepper spray in most AU states.
>>
>>54029333

Yeah, I'll grant you GPS and Wikipedia (GPS is kinda extra botnet though on top of the usual stingray, telco stuff)

Encryption is cool, but NSA/FBI/LGBT are reading your messages regardless so w/e. Only thing I'm really worried about is leftists reading the 6-7 n-bombs I drop a year with my friends and even SMS on my person is pretty safe from that since I don't paint a target on myself.

>>54029477
isn't me btw, I prefer my memes slightly more sophisticated

Mostly I was just reacting to the weird conception everyone has nowadays where you ABSOLUTELY NEED to have a giant internet device on you 24/7. Like somehow "4G LTE" has slipped in among air, water, and food as a human necessity.

I'm gonna end up buying into the smartphone meme soon enough, I got a message from my provider that 2G service is ending in my area in December. Kinda want to ride it out to the very end just so I can meme and feel smug towards the future robo-millenials or whatever

Check whether it has automatic turn-on. Sometimes called "dashcam mode" or similar.

You don't want to have to reach up and turn on the camera every time you drive. You want to hard wire power to it and have it automatically start recording when you turn the car on.

Good, but not bass heavy as my good old Piston 2.1.

If I buy a Mi band from some guy reselling them in my home country, how likely is it that they're going to be fake? People are selling them for 20 Euros each, and I don't mind paying a bit more but getting them right now, without waiting for delivery.

Are there any signs of a fake Mi band?
>>

I find the Hybrid really comfortable if you don't press them into your ear, the pistons 2.1 fell heavy.

>>54030561
It's pretty easy to post fakes, fakes have a fake "manual" seriously all fakes have fake manuals with names like DANI, no a single fake has a copy of the Xiaomi manual, the "capsule" es bigger and feels cheap as fuck, the original Mi capsule says "MI" on the botton, there is no fake Mi Band 1S so no fakes with heart rate sensor, the original strap says Designed by Xiaomi, fakes doesn't, I'm a reseller in my country and I purchased several fakes from Aliexpress just to make comparative pics for my online store, and sorry but I will not post such images because I don't want you niggas bothering me online.

If you don't need GPIO or random modules to do random stuff get some trash bin computer, otherwise get the RPi since it's the only one with a decent community

The Yoshikawa folding fishing scissors;

Very light in my hand, weighing only 23 grammes. Feels solid enough however. Nice smooth motion folding/unfolding them and the scissors come together perfectly. Doesn't feel like they'll break on first use.

Believe it or not, review websites recommended the Mi Note over the Mi Note Pro, and the Mi Note 2 and Mi Note 2 Pro will be launched later this year.

Here is one of said websites:

Each country picks their telephony bands, 2GB bands and pretty much universal all over the world minus some carriers that use other technology, 3G is just 5 bands, so most phone will work on 3G nealy all over the world, 4G is were shit got fucked, there are way too many bands and you will rarely get 4G on a phone that wasn't designed for your country.
>>
>>54032990
Yeah, I checked it but how do I know what "variation" of those is the one sold on Ali?
According to wmpw some of those variations work fine and some have only 2G.

Next up;

LED glow fishing float.

This thing is a real piece of shit, the plastic is extremely cheap and full of stress marks, the painting is shoddy and I highly doubt that the tiny rubber grommet they have fitted it with is waterproof in the slightest.

In its defence it does actually light up.

I rate it five mangos.
>>
>>54033006
it seems to be carrier dependent though, I checked on >>54032990 and several are marked as potentially working.

I guess not all providers use the same bands.
>>
>>54033006
Some china phones seem to only list WCDMA bands under 3G which I thought weird. Why wouldn't they have basic gsm 3G bands?

Next up we have the "Assorted Fishing Tools Fish Tackles Swivels Lures Baits JIG Head Hooks Kit Box".

A surprisingly great item actually, this has a bit of everything from barbless hooks to jig arms to swivels to lead weights and more.

Four little internal doors keep everything neat and in place, the whole thing itself folds over and locks shut and is the ideal size to slip into your pocket.

I can actually find no flaw with this little set other than some of the plastic moulding isn't finished perfectly, which you wouldn't expect on a more expensive one either.

It weighs 140 grammes and the luminous plastic makes it easy to see.

Very happy with this:
6/7D mangos

I don't get why. The Note Pro has better specs and is only a few $ more expensive than regular Note. Even that rev site didnt have any critique besides the overheating.

Yeah it overheats a bit, but that is the problem with all SD810 phones.

Jokes on them there's ways to flash the 2G/3G and LTE modems to connect to them. I wish the miui community was more vigilant about doing it with all their current snapdragon phones. But there is a way.

Anyone know why those kits to add touch panels to monitors cost so much?

Trying to find one for an old 19 inch 16:10 monitor I have lying around but they're all well over £50.

Okay… This is confusing. The HDD seems to be available again, but it's not (yet?) visible in the store.

Rod next, the final item of the delivery today.
Still waiting on the reel and line.

The first thing that struck me about the rod was the weight, it weighs only 67 grammes, extremely light.

The rod when extended is only 1m in length, you'll not be getting any great casts off this so no beach fishing. This is purely a beast for rock fishing and streams.

In terms of quality it is acceptable, the sliding sections are friction-fit into place, the reel clamps are plastic. I'd be cautious about trying to land anything above a single medium size mackerel with this for fear of the rod itself giving way.

The handle grip is made of some sort of moulded foam which looks like a cross between cardboard and dirt but feels alright and gives good grip. I wouldn't expect it to last long though once exposed to grime and the elements, that shits going to slough right off I reckon.

Overall, without actually having used it I give this rod a preliminary score of 5/7D mangos, if it doesn't immediately dissolve upon contact with the elements that'll go up to 6.

I wish I had the reel to review too, I hope it does turn up.

Here's hoping the other two orders on their way are at least complete.
>>
>>54033080
It was $8.97 USD, about £6.47 GBP.

If your father is a more accomplished and experienced fisherman than I then the items in it may not be up to his standards. I know I praised it but that praise was relative to the fact that it was some cheap chink shit so keep that in mind with all my scores.

He may not find much use in the rigs and spacers but the swivels, weights, clips and possibly the hooks should certainly be of use to most anyone and of course the case itself is actually really nice.

I can't speak for your father but if someone presented me with this I'd be pretty pleased.

Thanks for the reviews fishing anon. What kind of reel and line did you order?

I'm interested to see how that rod holds up, so once you've used it a couple times if you could report back that would be great too. The assorted fishing tool box was an item I came across a couple of times, surprised to hear it seems pretty good.

Thanks again.
>>

>>
>>54033274
>surprised to hear it seems pretty good

Well like I said, it's all relative. It's good for a set which cost so little, it's not so great when compared to a more expensive set of proper tackle. Those would be getting scores of above 7/7D mangos.

I'll certainly update you all on the rod once I've used it, I'm dubious about the staying ability of the materials but I just did a good old bend test on it and it flexes nicely; a nice even bend all through the rod means that it is at least spreading the load evenly, I don't think snapping is how it'll break, it's more likely to simply succumb to wear and tear quickly.

I'll be heading down the beach to go rock fishing with my nephew not this weekend but the next, that'll give time for the other gear to turn up I hope.

Cash in hand craigslist/gumtree sales I suppose. Or set up some sort of stall at a local market. I know people who buy cheap android TV boxes, put kodi on it and install some streaming plugins and sell it for a tidy profit. You have to be careful though since you can get caught.

As with everything else you usually get what you pay for. Price and quality usually go together.
You generally can't expect the same quality from a $10 rod/reel/whatever-item-you-have-in-mind as from a $100 one.
