Reminder that if your watch accepts firmware updates and connects to your phone, it's not a real watch.
Fuck off, smartwatch babbies.
You can't even put a standard strap on most of them because they're designed around a vertical accessory monopoly

Hey guys I really want a watch that chimes or beeps on quarter hours (00, 15, 30, 45 minutes) but Google is not helping me. Anyone know of such a thing? Also, I think I will need it to be under $1000USD.

pic is my current piece, it's almost perfect except the hourly beeps are much quieter than the F-91W, and unfortunately I often do not hear them when in public. I also don't like the extra visual noise from the stopwatch hand.

Why don't they waste their time with expensive bracelets that don't fit near the case, expensive clasps that break randomly, bad leather that colors your arm yellow, attaches that near condemn your watch because it's so fucking hard to remove, hard to adjust links... it sounds so much more fun.

Planning on getting an alpinist. Can someone recommend me a leather strap to go with it under $40?
>>
>>51579214
I love mine.
Recently used it to time myself during an orgo exam. The professor is a cocksucker that gives us 90 minutes to do a 120 minute exam, so you need to stay on track and do the "easier" questions as quick as possible.
The NATO is 2 mm too small I know. If I get that radio room Amphibia I'll put the blue one on that and get the Casio a proper sized NATO.

That's the standard beatrate for Seiko and it's less than the standard 28,800 that most manufacturers use today. It may have been called high-beat decades ago when most watches were much lower beatrate, but these days high beat starts at 36,000.

I was really surprised to learn about a genre of watches, Rail road watches. Also not sure why this genre has never been mentioned in any of the threads, over so many years.

There is something really amazing about the white dial and the cathedral/teardrop hour hand.
I do not care about the quartz movement, all i want to have is this awesome looking watch on my wrist. Sadly there are no modern railroad themed watches that look nearly as good as the pic.
>>
>>51586629
That's not a quartz watch, it has an accutron 218 tuning fork movement.

Also watches used to have a small downward curve at the end of the second and minute hands to make it easier to read exactly from odd angles. It helps especially with domed crystals which distort when you look at them from the side.

>>51587301
What model exactly? some watches have a retarded huge case and they look too big, even with 40mm.
>>
>>51587291
The milgauss is almost double the price m8. That and there's nothing that's any more 'wrong' about spending over a kilobuck on a seiko than it is on any other brand of watch. Usually a seiko will be of a certain quality at a price point far below an equivalent swiss piece.

Unless all you care about is brand recognition or something.

But that pic IS a modern railroad watch.
Railroad was a an accuracy standard that early american pocket watches were held to. By no means is it a certain look. But yes, they did commonly tend to have the large blocky numerals and those sort of oversized teardrop hands.

Both seem fake: logo is obviously too big on the right, aswell as indexes, but the crown is wrong on the left one, it's rounded at the end.

Those watches are largely faked because their design is so simple, and fakers don't even bother making too good copies, considering the retards that buy them don't know shit about watches, so they'd rather make simple and cheap ones to maximize their margins.
>>
>>51588761
Well, besides the different logo size;

The indices on the left are a lot more detailed, the central gear on the left also looks a lot less cheap.

Thanks guys, after all I think I'll go with the blue one, it doesn't have the cool sunburst mako-like effect but it still looks interesting.
I know I would have to spend like 30€ if I wanted to get a bezel mod but I'm on a tight budget atm.
I've seen this pic on instagram, some guy managed to get this sexy brushed look on the case and stock bezel and it looks even better than any other mods I've seen before, and it's cheap and the watch remains 100% original besides the strap.
How can I achieve this brushed look? Sand paper? Does anyone know of any tutorial, I can't find anything like that.
>>
>>51591520
Short answer is sand paper, but really without good tools and a little bit of skill this look is unachievable

>>
>>51588327

It really isn't, but why doesn't really come across very well in pictures.

The SGDMs have:
- Diashield to reduce scratches
- super AR coating on the sapphire crystal
- the bracelet is massively better than the SARB with 5 articulating pieces to each link alternating brushed and polished finishes, two half-links, and a GS style milled clasp
- the case has much sharper transitions between surfaces
- the case has 5 alternating bands of brushed and polished finishes
- it has a guilloche dial

Yes and no.

If you compare it to the SNZG series lume like pic related or an SKX you'd be disappointed. Though it's okay overall, still miles ahead of Vostok lume.

The Tisell has a better movement (same features, more BPH), but its power reserve is not as large as the SARB.

The Tisell is about half the cost of a SARB - it will not be finished as well as the SARB, but if you want a Bauhaus with a decent movement for under $200, it's pretty much your best option.

Basically:

Buy a Tisell if you want a Bauhaus Nomos/Stowa homage.

Buy a SARB if you want a dressy, built to last, Japanese automatic.

They're both fantastic watches, they both look great, QC and customer service is good for both (QC is arguably better on the SARB, but Tisell's return policy is pretty good).

True, but they will think that of anything that isn't Rolex or Michael Kors.

>>51594519
I'd say you might want to check your wrist size - 38mm is great, so long as you're not obese or have huge arms.

Also, I'd steer clear of the PVD (black) case - very few watchermakers are able to provide a PVD coating that will not scratch, much less in the sub $200 bracket.

I would legitimately take the Ray out of those two, and not because I despise post-Swatch Omega.
>>
>>51594447

>>
>>51594303
Sure, but there's more to it than that.
The Tisell is a copy of an existing design (Nomos Tangente). It's a stock movement thrown in a stock case by a gook. People who know their watches will know you were too cheap to buy a real Nomos.
The Seiko is designed and built entirely in-house by Seiko. The finishing is on another level. The movement is better in some aspects than the Miyota too (PR, magic lever).

Having said that, I myself would sooner get a Tisell bauhaus than a SARB, because I prefer the design of the former.

As far as i recall we couldn't get it going both because there wasn't a proper agreement on the dial, and because the Vostok plant was on vacation status.

It was meant to be a sort of collaborative project between /g/ and /k/ - we're both quite small boards and a watch based on a military design fits the /k/ criteria.

Damn shame about the low BPH of the 6R15. The size, dial, everything on the 035 is literally perfect but the Miyota 9015 is simply better.
>>
>>51596276
Then buy the 035 - you will not notice the lower beat rate in real life.

It's nice to have the higher beat rate - but don't buy a design you don't want just to have it.

And I'm not a Seikoshill - I'm all aboard the Tisell trail.

I think where Tisell pulls ahead with their Bauhaus homages is the chamfered date windows, it's surprising how few companies focus on the date windows nowadays.

Pre-1950 they were a very interesting and influential US brand that had a hand in lots of early developments in aviation and navigation.

After that it bought by the Swiss and slowly declined. It was under Swatch for a bit and is now a fashion brand owned by Bulova.

Is the beatrate really such a big deal to you anyway? And the 9015 is great but I would hardly call it "simply better" than a 6R and I own watches with both. The Seiko has a longer power reserve with a high tech mainspring and has the neat-o magic lever winding and other stuff like that, the 9015 is pretty plain. Also the 9015 in the Tissel is going to be rough and undecorated while Seiko actually puts some effort into making the 6R look pretty nice.
