Because at that point it's not about spending your money sensibly, it's about showing off and indulging yourself. Japanese brands are still seen as too sensible for that mentality, so people still spring for other luxury brands. Doesn't mean it isn't retarded though.

Do you people ever stop for a moment and consider what meaningless marketing horseshit is spewing from your mouth?

If you want "mechanical advancement" then that's probably going to be a spring drive which you already rejected out of hand for no reason or some other ridiculous overengineered shit like a Lange Zeitwerk or one of those atrocious Urwerk things or a literally useless tourbillon but you'll need about 10 times your budget for that.

At one point they were pretty cheap Milgauss homages(in the ballpark of 20 bucks I think?), and they even could tell the time with enough accuracy to most. General consensus seems to be that since the price hike, it's not just worth it anymore(if you have 50 bucks and want a memechanical, just get a vostok or seiko)

I've come to like this modest-ish size (40mm w/ bezel and tiny lugs)

though I also like my 52mm g-shock and "lump of steel" 110 case amphi
>>
>>51571144
I've met three types of g-shock users

trendy folk who want a colorful watch, possibly to match with their outfit or just otherwise
nerds who enjoy the utilitarianism
and people who do sports or work in such an environment that they need a rugged watch, these people tend to not wear theirs all the time

actually, some also get one for the mandatory military training here, but those people tend to prefer even cheaper digital watches
>>
>>51572509
Yeah, I pulled my military service thru with terrorist casio. I figured busting up a cheap watch would matter less to me than losing more expensive g-shock.

It's true. The styling parameters for watches in the tool watch/dressy watch border are pretty narrow:

Applied stick indices, 36-40mm, date window optional, no day window, Guilloche or sunburst dials optional, polished bezels, no rotating bezels, alternating polished and brushed finishes.

Hell the GS auto diver is the same deal. The stylistic constraints of the genre are narrow enough that we aren't comparing Lexus and Mercedes here.

as in power or placement? looking down looks properly aligned.

and the seconds line up perfectly, and even the bezel clicks line up perfectly, which surprised me.

the only reason i want to clean it up is the fact when i wind it up it appears to line up as good as my SNK, so hopefully it would be as accurate.

and "how bad" is the printing? because its flaking or because it's just shit.

not having the crown for the last 5 years probably helped it deteriorate.

but ill give you everything else, thanks for the info

Check the hole where the second hand is punched - in the photos it does not look properly centred.

A bit of both, I'd say - wrong font on a few things, proportions seem off and flaking isn't helping.

$7 is a good price, you shouldn't pay more for a handwind HMT that that. However don't be surprised if your pilot is actually a Jawan when it arrives, it happened to me.
>>
>>51576405
Well it was an auction and not a buy it now/40 available. So fingers crossed that's the actual watch I'm getting.

do u sleep in your watch? i dont. i put it on the nightstand. the only difference now is that i put it on top of a charger on night stand. i dont see 1.5-2 day battery life being a problem unless im innawoods... but then i wouldnt be wearing an elegant watch would i?

lets stop with these anti-memes, smartwatches are finally starting to look good.

>muh investment
oyvey good goy.

watch is a fucking watch, its an utility, not an investment despite what le ebin jew watchmakers portray in exclusive printed adverts in pretty mags. if this isnt falling for consumerist bait i dont know what is. fair enough smartwatches apply to that category, but at least they dont cost thousands and offer supplementary functionality to showing current time.

also im sure i can dig up my nokia 3310 cause it still works and allows me to make calls. why have a smartphone?
>>
>>51577428
>>51577329
enjoy using those smart "utility" functions in 5 years when they stop releasing firmware updates that work with your current version of android or whatever.

Remember all those ancient devices that use youtube or netflix?
You think they still work?
You think they're still being maintained?
Fuck no.

Meanwhile a watch will keep telling time for as long as it's collective parts don't wear out, because you don't need firmware updates to grab the time from your android phone.
Oh did I forget to mention that your dumb toy watch can't even tell the time if it's not tethered to your phone via bluetooth?
Even a dollar store digital watch can tell time better than your disposable gadget.

ok it might be outdated after 5yrs, might still work. so what? every piece of tech has limited lifetime nowadays. i thought we got over the dumbphone-smartphone meme debate as well...

also some people are looking for a functional device, rather than an item that will simply last.

>dumb toy watch will not tell time
it will once synced once, its not like they go blank upon losing connection to smartphone
it will also tell me time in every city around the world should i wish to check it
the standalone functionality is increasing and now u can take these out for jogging/gym and use as a music player with no smartphone needed
in general i can see u dont know much about how smartwatches work nowadays, do ya?

>>51577692
noice, did it come with that leather belt?>>51577730
theres hundreds of facewatches out there and its a matter of time till proper designers start making some as well. for gold/brown choices might be limited but u still can play around.
>>
>>51576938
Why though? If you're gonna get a smart watch you might as well go all the way and get one with all the tracking and health shit.
Otherwise put the money towards an actual time piece or just buy a chink watch and save the rest.

Honestly depends on what trusted dealer you buy from. Some watches have etas, some have clone or asian movements. Its hit or miss in the movement department. Quality wise there will be always some small manufacturing flaws, but some are extremley good looking watches for the money (well mostly TC Sub v6 which is flawless, like from a store.) And honestly when you pay about 250$ you get alot of value for the money as timepiece. But as I said its a risky game unless you know a good dealer.
