The cartoon is one of the most loyal, direct adaptations, but it only follows the first 11 issues and they added their own ending and reveal of who Maxx really was. Everything after Julie gets on the plane is MTV-only, but prior to that you can literally read along with the comic 98% of the story.
The comic keeps going until issue 35, and his true identity is very different. Maxx and Julie's story ends at issue 20, though, 21+ is about Sara and a different Maxx. Plus it...

What did /co/ think of this?I thought it was way too fucking weird and depressing
The ending didn't make much sense. It had the mood of a happy ending but most of them died and they couldn't reproduce in any way.
I liked it overall though.

I liked it enough. Was pretty good throughout if you can get over the whole terminator feeling. That one scene where the chroniclers were recording 9's data gave me a weird boner though and i do not know why.
