They are more expensive to produce, most horror films are either formulaic as fuck or low budget. Hollywood has lost faith in the genre. Even del Toro had massive executive meddling in his movie.

I'd love to see some animation of horror myths. Japanese mythology gets fucking scary as hell, and when you don't have moe crap eyes and instead have a more realistic and unstylized look you can pump out some fantastic horror. Not just the same basic Onryo The Grudge/The Ring ripoffs, there's a LOT of shit even anime has never touched with gold potential.
