Not only did he play politics in his early days and secure the best booking for himself, he ended up marrying the boss's daughter and becoming COO of the E, maybe even the successor to Vince.
He's 46 and while most wrestlers are wheelchair bound by this age Trips literally comes down to the ring ever Monday in thousand dollar suits, plus there's literally no doubt that if he needs to, he can still go at it with the best of them.
Not to mention he gave us NXT, which is one of the best products to come out of the WWE in a long time.
Trips is truly a genius.

Do the high-level guys in NXT actually have to train in-ring? Take someone like Samoa Joe, who is ready for the main roster right now and has 10 years of TV experience; does he have to go to practice with the Drifter, or can he just show up to shows and wrestle? I get that certain guys, like Nakamura or even Balor, probably need to go to promo class, but imaging them doing arm-drag drills with No Way Jose seems silly.

Of course, you don't just stop training once you get good at something. Even the biggest guys on the main roster still stick to a strict practise, just ask Orton. He may be bit of a cunt but he takes his in ring work VERY seriously.
They need guys like a Joe, Balor, or even a Ryder to help newer guys through the ropes. Why? General experience. Someone who is a little greener will learn a lot more by taking example of people who can work their way around. There is a level of importance of having someone like Samoa Joe down in NXT. I imagine he's a big help for helping home talent work their way around the ring.
