At first the "monster Kuro" was only a tiny parasite that go inside the cat, who was probably dead or severely injured in the moment for the crash, if the parents of Coco were still alive he probably kill them after the transformation... but I doubt it. Yeah, the exposition is just like that. It bothered me too, not to mention badly written. Kara no Kyoukai is even worse in that respect. Maybe it's because it's based on a vn/ln that is so full of dialogue, this is really the natural result.
