How exactly did the Blackfish expect to hold on to the castle while all his soldiers were loyal to Edmure? Not being a book reader, it completely boggled my mind that they would simply lay down their arms. Weren't they ready to die in defense of the castle anyway? Is their lord's command all it takes to deliver themselves up to the Lannisters like lambs?
It was also unclear to me why Edmure had the upper hand over the Blackfish. Wasn't the Blackfish a more senior member of the family, and Riverrun his home? Why would all these hardened soldiers who had followed him succumb to the request of a prisoner likely to be acting at the behest of the Freys/Lannisters?
I have no problem with the whole "siege being resolved peacefully as part of Jamie's character arc" plot line, but not knowing the context it felt like a complete deus ex machina. Like, oh, all it took was a brief conversation changing Edmure's mind to flip the whole balance of power. I also see many posters talking about saving the Tullys from the death and destruction that would result from Jamie's assault on the castle. But isn't the whole framing of the stand-off that Jamie cannot take the castle by force? That he has to settle in for a long siege?

A spectacle for the locals. But watching Sansa suffer Ramsay’s brutality drove a lance through my heart. Watching Theon try to warm her cold body, then Brienne saying comforting words. They may have believed in them, but... she needed a friend. And she was almost dead. And they went to the only place they knew they could. And for the first time in Sansa’s life, Jon really replied. Both of their eyes truly opened. And I knew the truth: Jonsa is the one true pairing... and all men must serve Jonsa.
