It really was. Took 13 friends of mine that knew nothing about it, except for me loving Warcraft in general. They were all surprised by how much they liked it. The women cried during 2 scenes in the movie, which was nice to see that it was emotional.

The audience at my cinema theatre liked it, but I imagine anyone watching it outside of cinema will walk halfway because of the badly edited first act, filled with weak acting, all to miss the redeeming third and awesome third acts.

Garona's ending was great.

It's amazing to me how great the orc scenes were and how shit the human scenes were.

It was like two entirely different movies stitched together.

Overall I enjoyed it, but I played Warcraft III and a little WoW, so I appreciated the love Duncan Jones put into this.

I understand the reviews, though. If you don't like high fantasy or care about Warcraft this is probably one of the worst movies of all time.

The human acting seriously felt amateur, like network television tier. How do you make something this big and not notice something like that?

>>70757041
I'm real glad they didn't go with the current nerd trend and make all the characters into snarky, quipping morons.
I realized that nerds are often pompous and proud, hiding their insecurities. This is why they love snarky humor.
Warcraft didn't attempt to pander to that group like Joss' Marvel Movies have, which I applaud Jones for.

>>70757109

>>
>>70757033
I don't disagree, I'm not defending its failings, I don't think the pacing finds its footing until the third act. I'm just saying that I appreciated that this wasn't just a cash-in, Duncan Jones clearly loves Warcraft and it shows through the attention to detail.

That was enough for me to enjoy the movie, but yeah, I didn't love it. It has many flaws, and I don't fault the reviewers at all. If I wasn't such a fan of high fantasy and nostalgic for Warcraft, I probably would have walked out early on.
>>
>>70757146
haha, yeah, man..
>>
>>70757041
you joke but Marvel style quippy likable characters would have done this movie wonders

one of the biggest problems with the human stuff early on is that none of them are interesting or likable enough to care about

I think the film should have been primarily about the Orcs. The beginning could have had a Fellowship of the Ring type prologue that briefly explains the setting and how the Orcs became corrupt. Doing that would have made this film a solid 10/10.

Yeah, showing how they went from nomadic hunters that revered nature to a violent, demonically corrupted invasion force would be cool. Like if native americans were suddenly 8 feet tall, green and invaded the fledgling united states But warcraft has always been about multiple races, living in the same world, trying to steal the spot light from each other

Everything related to orcs was fucking 11/10, they simply nailed everything. Best orc movie ever.

Human side of the movie was kinda meh, but nothing THAT bad. It's a decent movie with SOME pacing issues. Actually reminded me a lot of second Planet of the Apes movie where apes and ape action totally carried the movie which lacked a likable human lead.

Speaking of action, it's gorgeous. Fuck, go see it, it's a decent fantasy movie with great action scenes and actual storyline. You will be entartained at least.

All things considered i think it was pretty good.
It's no LOTR on any level but it was above stuff like D&D, Narnia or the Hobbit.

Did a pretty good job handling the character arcs even though the supporting cast was not that good and i kind of liked the variations of art design.
I also liked the ending. It was over all pretty decent movie for someone that knows nothing about warcraft at least.

It was a small snipit from the leaked footage but Grom was basically explaining what was happening to Durotan and Orim (and the audience) and probably had a character moment or two.

But it was cut like half of the movie was because studios are greedy and need it pack as much screenings as possible.

I have a feeling Grom had a lines to say (along with Kargath and Deadeye) in the original cut, that's why you see the meverywhere

Movie only focuses on a few orc characters.

In the games Grom didn't come to Azeroth in the first war, but in the movie since Draenor is dying it makes sense for him to come over.

Originally he wasn't there in the second war either. Grom and his Warsong Clan stayed behind in Draenor until Ner'Zhul went to Azeroth.
This was after the second war was over and Orgrim had lost. Most orcs were in camps, like the Bleeding Hollow clan lead by Kilrogg Deadeye was the only clan that had evaded capture.

Might as well explain this post. For years /v/ has been infested with trolls who love to start fights by insulting the playerbase of any game. There are also Blizzard fanboys who hated the growing popularity Blizzard experienced and the additions to Warcraft lore. It is understandable since roughly 10 years ago Blizzard became more a corporation under Kotick interested in money. They hate Cgris Metzen the most for his lote changs.

So you have these trolls and these butthurt fanboys that may see the movie and enjoy it, but they will do everything possible to shit on it online.

Here's the cut scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ePGvdc2--E
Knowing this existed, it bugged the hell out of me that it was cut and he ended up not speaking at all. He had enough presence in the film that it felt like he should have something to say, especially given how somewhat iconic his character has become now. I could live with Kargath and Kilrogg not having any lines, but Grommash definitely deserved some, especially since they emphasized his casting a bit.

>>70763756
>i think Grom was going to kill his son before blackhand decided to shank him instead

I thought that was hilarious. As soon as they showed Grom was Callan's opponent, his fate was sealed. When going for the attack, Grom just parried his sword out of his hand instantly. I was ready to see Gorehowl thrust into his gut before Blackhand intervened.

no it wasn't, the movie structure sucked.

-No resolution whatsoever. Yes, films with sequels can still have some resolution and feel as though you have watched a completed movie.

-The movie's climax didn't mean anything. Durotan fought Guldan and forced him to use his magic to win, and some of the orcs muttered and groaned but they still followed him. Then the human commander had a duel with black hand and Guldan demanded he be killed and again the orcs muttered and groaned a little bit but they still follow Guldan as their leader.
What was the point of either of those things? hurr they mutterd in discontent a little bit.

-why did guldan need the guardian reciting an incantation in order to re-open the gate when the first time guldan was able to open the gate by himself?

-why did the human commander fly his griffon into the middle of an army of orcs when clearly there was not a single human left? That's fucking moronic. it's really stupid writing done in order to set up a duel between the human commander and black hand.

-didn't Durotan feel ANY debt of gratitude towards Guldan for saving his stillborn son's life? The movie didn't explore this at all. Literally as soon as Durotan encounters a human sorcerer who can use fell as a weakness, Durotan starts plotting how to betray Guldan.

- why were Guldan's warriors already hiding underground at the meeting place?

-why was the female orc who got captured constantly making "intense" faces? like there was sexual tension between her and some guy who killed her comrades and captured her instantly.

- why did the orcs accept her after she killed the human king when 1. she stabbed their king in the back rather than defeating him honourably 2. they know that she was an informant helping the humans 3. they could see her and the king talking before she stabbed him in the back

The really annoying thing is that it seemed like it had potential to make Guldan a really interesting character who is a true patriot to orc-kind but is using a power he doesn't truly understand or control. Gul'dan opened the portal with the help of Medivh, that has always been the case since WC1. Ner'zul is the only one who has been able to open portals on his own and even then he failed.

Oh no he's supposed to have been evil from the start.

I'm not exactly sure what Duncans intention is with the movie, but originally it isn't just "the fel".
Medivh is basically possessed by the settings equivalent of the devil.
Both struggling for control for the same body.
>>
>>70769298
judging from your post I can tell you didn't play any of the games or at least you don't remember any of it

From the very beginning Guldan's motivation was simply MORE POWER, he was seduced by Sargeras or come other demon I don't remember the name.
>>

Mannoroth, which later got ret conned into Sargeras's deus ex machina

Can anyone explain to me, how when Medvih goes to open the gate the first time, he transforms, and then in the exact next scene, he teleports back to where all the humans are and he looks normal. It literally shows him transforming in the scene right before. The movie never sets up if he has power to change his appearance or not, so it's just confusing as fuck tbqh senpai. Sargeras is the one who brought them to Azeroth after Kil'jaeden abandoned the Orcs.

Reading through some of the lore, did they fucking retcon much of the story from games 1-3 during WoW? Parts of the dranei and orc backstory is different from what I remember. And this movie is also far off (and doesn't even mention the grander entities in the universe at all).
>>

It could have been worse I guess. Whether it's worse than the Hobbit I don't really know though.

The casting for this movie was horrid, as was the CGI director. No fucking idea why they picked that guy from Vikings to be Lothar, he fucking sucks.
>>
>>70773792
From the top of my head the main retcons are

-Doomhammer being a Frostwolf instead of a Blackrock

-Fel magic making orcs turn green directly instead of them drinking Demon Blood

-Humans with guns in the first world

-Khadgar in the games was Medivh's apprentice

-Khadgar killed Medivh with a sword and got cursed into an old man and Lothar Gorona and the king were all present

-Gul'dan mind controlled Gorona and she killed the king not of her free will.

-Lothar's sister being the queen and Lothar having a son was made up for the movie

-Blackhand got stabbed in the back by Doomhammer who then became the Warchief. This is why he was called the betrayer in the game had nothing to do with him ratting out Durotan

-Gul'dan in the game was mind linked with Medivh when he died and went into a coma and woke up after Doomhammer had already finished is coupe.

-The Horde sacked Stormwind to the ground at the end of the first war and are the cannon winners.
>>
Guys I know I'm late to the party but where do I watch the movie online?

It looks like there is a digital rip out there right now?
>>
This question is more warcraft mmo lore in general, but if the orcs murked all of the Draenei in that big sacrifice to come to Azeroth, then how do the Draenei end up in Azeroth in any sort of number?
>>
>>70774573
fel magic can also turn orcs green, doesn't have to be from demon blood
>>
>>70774129
More thana neat detail there's a lot of thought, the tear that drps down his cheek the fucking hesitation, the way he and kargath stand in Guldans way when later Lothar is leaving, Grom literally is the best fucking Background character ever seen in film, period!

In game lore the Orcs didn't use them to open the portal but they did genocide most of their race and paved a giant highway with their bones and called it the path of glory.

A small fraction of the Draenei escaped by feeling in inter-dimensional magic ships or hiding in the swamps and then mutating into ugly creatures.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKFkUi7ceQM
>>
>>70774644
There weren't more than scant hundreds of Draenei at the portal. Lots of Draenei held out past the explosion. But then again they were only made up in WC3 and retconned in the face so hard they turned pretty in WoW.

>-Khadgar killed Medivh with a sword and got cursed into an old man and Lothar Gorona and the king were all present

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>>70774727
My complaint is more that they just didn't mention the blood at all which is a big plot point in the later games. But in the first game I don't know if they ever mentioned it so this might just be being nit picky with later knowledge of the lore.
>>
>>70769151
>why was the female orc who got captured constantly making "intense" faces? like there was sexual tension between her and some guy who killed her comrades and captured her instantly

was i the only one who didn't like how they portrayed Khadgar? and then on top of that he somehow manages to beat Sargeras infested Medivh? what was that whole darkness-light thing anyway, they didn't explain shit and I even played all the RTS games.

Orgrim was fucked up tho, his whole story line makes no sense. I guess you can explain it all away with the fact that he's a retarded dumb proud Orc.

Lothar was horribly portrayed tho. Ragnar Lofbrok 2.0 basically, nothing of the actual proud Lion he was supposed to be.
>>
>>70757033

some of my friends said the pace were very fast too. I don't understand this criticism, for me it was kind of slow at times even. If you know nothing about warcraft the story is very simple, there are evil orcs coming through the portal and humans want to stop them. How can 2 hours of this be too fast?
>>
>>70774834
It's a nonissue. They could do a 20 second flash back and slip that right in. Blizz has learned their constant retcons can be good for twist delivery. They described Kil'Jaden presence when the orcs were first gifted.
>>
>>70774882
Khadgar's actor seemed like he got lost, fell into a clean-cut costume and rolled onto the set. Probably the worst thing in the movie.
>>
>>70774969

>-Lothar's sister being the queen and Lothar having a son was made up for the movie
I did not mind that Lothar had a son, but the sister queen part rustles me.

IIRC Lothar was the last known descendant of the Arathi, who ruled the first human kingdom, and because of that it made it easier for him to get the high elves into the alliance since the high elves had a debt to that line.

Now since the queen is his sister, it downplays Lothars importance.

>>

so is this movie good or bad. people keep praising it but then i see this
>>
>>70776405

Its rough, apparently a lot of footage was pulled from it which makes it feel like its cut awkwardly, and as people have said in this thread its opening act is a little weak (the human part especially) but it picks up a lot by the second and third acts and ends nicely.

Some of the fight choregraphy is goof in places, but great in others. Its hard to judge as a whole. I feel like the production may have been hampered by lots of unnecessary editing and changes.

>Holy Shit that was sweet.

No it wasn't. Went with my GF, we're both WoW veterans and wanted to see this movie.

It should be renamed to Exposition: The Movie. It wasn't just Act 1, 2, or 3, it was all of them. Characters physically move from one backdrop to another, then talk a little about themselves.

What happened to SHOWING the audience the story instead of telling? Khadgar, Garonna, Lothar, Medivh, and Llane all had too much dialogue in this movie. If Bowie Jr. was aiming to make the movie seem like a bunch of quests you pick up at a hub, he succeeded. Because that's how it all felt to me, one string of quest hub grinds.

I don't think humans were THAT bad, it's just that orcs portrayal and character arcs are so damn better. I like Ben Foster and thought he was really good as Medivh. Him and Khadgar were fine. It all kinda fell apart in the last act for me, this whole scene with the king at the end was kinda dumb.

-No resolution whatsoever
They stopped the rest of the horde from coming through and saved all those prisoners. Now there will be an alliance of Human, Dwarf and Elf. An actual force strong enough to fight the horde. Because as they said many times, Stormwind cannot win alone.

-Durotan fought Guldan and Lothar vs Black Hand What was the point of either of those things?
Durotan was as good as dead. Him fighting Gul'Dan was him trying to stop the Fel. If Gul'Dan cheated, the orcs would not trust him anymore. THEY DON'T TRUST HIM ANYMORE
Lothar vs Black Hand shows that Durotan was right. And it was fucking boss.

>why did guldan need the guardian reciting an incantation
Figure this out on your own. it is pretty simple

>why did the human commander fly his griffon into the middle of an army of orcs
