God someone fucking help me

I'm running a campaign that has a setting pretty similar to shadowrun's setting, and I've run into a writer's block thing

The players will need to find a certain asshole high rank police officer and interrogate him for the location of the mcguffin. But I have no idea how they could find him or how to make it interesting in any way. He's only appeared briefly once or twice so far, and they know nothing about him. I don't want to railroad them to just walking into him on the street.

help me idea guys!!!

That guy should be easily google-equivalentable - you want to know the NYPD Commissioner or the head of Scotland Yard, you can find that shit in an instant, and district chiefs aren't much harder to find.

Your players can find where they work from or live, and high-ranking officials get invited to events all the time - get your players to investigate him, stalk him, and work out a method of capturing him: does he go to a certain doughnut shop because he loves their coffee? Does he go to a deli where all his brass gets him free shit? Is he having an affair? Is he attending an official dinner where your players infiltrate the wait staff, slip a laxative in his food and kidnap him when he goes to the bathroom?

Start with the core rules and wait till you're comfortable with the system to include new ones. The first time around combat is going to be very slow so just be patient about that. You will get better in time. Have cheat sheets ready for your players in case they forget how to roll or how a rule works. Also if there is a mage or decker dont slack off on making sure you understand those rules for magic and the matrix. Once again the rules can be very intimidating, but once you get the hang of it, you and your chummers will have have a good time.

I don't remember whether this cheat sheet is in the copypasta so i'll post it anyways.

Hey /srg/ ran my third game successfully last night, had a question though. How reliable is chummer5 regarding information like dice pools? Chummer was showing the mage in the party should've been rolling with a pool of 8 when his magic plus spellcasting was 11. Am I missing something obvious or does Chummer regularly have small inconsistencies like this?

So, full on werewolves.

Was thinking about a werewolf character, a sort of dick tracy investigator who during combat will drag people into the shadows and tear them apart.

How would you effectively make one?
Would they even work well as PCs?

More importantly, what's a good justification for them in the first place?
>>
>>47855671
Yeah, Chummer does have some issues, especially with cyberware, it always lists my agility and strength scores as 1 point lower due to my limbs, which should be on par with the rest of my body.
Certain equipment will crash chummer5, like the bracers for one.

For your case, I would first look at your mage's sheet to see if something is bringing the score down, like stun damage or lower than normal essence.
>>
I'm playing a hand-to-hand adept martial-artist, but they've recently lost a limb.

Should I learn to fight with one arm, or take the power loss to fight two-handed?
>>
>>47856550
aren't cloned limbs a thing?
>>
>>47856564
Cloned limbs are definitely a thing, but are also definitely expensive. Generic ones work as well but have an essence cost associated with them.
>>
>>47856460
>How would you effectively make one?

The closest you can get is either a Lupine shifter, or a HMHVV Strain II "Loup-garou". Problem is neither are close to the traditional werewolf. The forme is just a wolf that can somehow transform into a human, the other is 'stuck' in a monstrous half-human form by a magical disease.

>Would they even work well as PCs?
Not really.

>More importantly, what's a good justification for them in the first place?
Shifters are (wrongly) considered animals and loup-garous (rightfully) as dangerous monsters by the rest of the sixth world. Working the shadows isn't really weird ford them, just to survive.
>>
>>47856550
Capoeria, tae kwon do, other leg based systems
>>
>>47856525
>always lists my agility and strength scores as 1 point lower due to my limbs, which should be on par with the rest of my body

Well, if you set the standard amount of limbs to 2 arms, 2 legs and torso in te options and purchase those 5 limbs the attributes are correct. I guess if you don't have all limbs, Chummer averages cyber and meat attributes out and rounds down.
>>
>>47851909
Hey, I'm my guild's tank, it's a responsible position. And no addiction – can quit anytime I want as well.
>>
>>47856550

Take a cyberlimb. It's 1 essence, but you won't be at a disadvantage at everything you do. Also, if you can get a better grade, you can possibly fit in some high grade muscle toner in there too and be at a net gain from the ordeal.
>>
>>47856634
>Shifters are (wrongly) considered animals
No, it's quite right to consider them animals. They are, just with the ability to look human.
>>
>>47859843
Animals that are as intelligent as humans are morally indistinguishable from them

Humans are animals, after all.
>>
>>47860129
Let me just finish my dolphin steak burger, then consider that.
>>
>>47860337
Even if dolphins were as intelligent as humans (they're not), I wouldn't judge you for that. I don't judge killing people either, you see. The point is that you should treat beings of similar intelligence in the same fashion, else you're committing a cardinal sin of having moral double standards.
>>
>>47860129

> Humans are animals, after all.

>>
>>47860404
I don't particularly care what you would or wouldn't judge me for, anon-kun. That's your beef to chew on.

Shifters are animals. Drop their essence, magic, or raise the background count? Animals. Reproducing? Animals. Instincts? Animals. They can masquerade for a while (even indefinitely, if lucky), or possibly find a community that accepts animals, but they'll never be human.

>>47860923
I ended up offering a bit of a compromise to the player after the session. I let it be him feigning his death to protect the rest of the crew from a group with bad blood to the PC, and will return to the game once his character recovers from the extensive injuries the ambush gave him. basically I gave him an edge to burn so everything wouldn't be tears. Maybe i'm coddling him a bit, but that was total rng bullshit that shouldn't hose him over completely.

Though he's playing a temp character for the next few sessions and keeping his characters condition under wraps to the other players, do at least it did a good job putting the fear of God into the rest of the table.

College groups might be on hold for the summer, so that could be a factor. I'd think we'd see more activity with more free time, though. Maybe the rest of /tg/ is moving faster and keeping /srg/ lower on the pages, which means less incidental posting from non-regulars.

Being a Drake is pretty much a guaranteed meaningful existence in a world of drek. I can see why you'd be jealous. So a few dozen threads ago, there was an anon looking for info on 3D Printing in Shadowrun.

If you're still around dude, I've got good news and bad news.

The good news is, what you're looking for exists, and can be found on pg. 130 of Arsenal (pic related)

The bad news is on pg. 131:
>Another problem for shadowrunners is that the megacorp’s attempts to control the flow of desktop manufacturing have led to many laws requiring feedstock to be tagged with stealth RFID tags for identification purposes. As long as just a few parts of an item are made from feedstock, the chances of a critical mass of
stealth tags being included in the final product so that it can be identified is fairly low. Making a full item entirely using a desktop forge, on the other hand, will almost invariably mean that
it includes enough stealth tags to allow its owner to be tracked down. You can reduce the danger with a tag eraser (p. 320, SR4), but even this cannot give you 100% certainty, especially when it comes to electronic equipment, where the eraser can only be used to a limited extent. The likelihood that an item can be tracked is up to the gamemaster’s discretion.
>Characters can obtain “clean” feedstock that does not contain RFID tags, but of course it is heavily restricted and ostensibly forbidden to all but the megacorps. As a general rule, assume an Availability of 20F and a cost modifier of two to five times the standard feedstock price.

Has anyone ever used the Shadowrun Returns Map Editor for making maps for pen and paper? Was it worth the effort, and if so, where can you download it?
>>
>>47865217

Cyberware is made of metal, bioware is made of meat.

Or rather, cybeware is made of artificial material, bioware is living tissue.
>>
>>47865259
Is the essence cost still the same?

And, I've read a bit about cyberzombies, can the same happen with Bioware?
>>
>>47865328
Most 'ware has its Essence cost listed in its price table.

As a general rule, though, Bioware tends to have lower Essence costs, but higher monetary costs.
>>
>>47865328
Bioware costs less essence usually, and it also comes in the various grades like cyberware, but it costs a ton of nuyen
>>
>>47865328
There are some things that can only be done with one kind of 'ware, but for things both can do, generally speaking, bioware will do it for less essence, but more nuyen compared to its cyberware counterpart.

An Evo or Vory related run could be a great way to get your adept involved, then. If your face doesn't speak Russian, then your adept gets to translate.

If the same run also involves the drug trade (Vory drug smugglers think they're getting ripped off by the people reselling the product) then your street sam's Contacts could become very applicable.

Got an issue adding knowledge skills to a post-creation character. When I add one, it doesn't let name it, or pick a category. And if I try to add a rank to an existing one, it credits me karma.
>>
>>47865610

Are you referring to a run for Evo or that would harm them? I haven't really thought of involving them much but I probably should now that i'm going over backstories and contacts again.

I do have a subplot going on that the Russian mafia is into some fucked up human trafficking shit in Seattle. I'm talking selling people for organs / bunraku shit. Probably not canon but just a thing I did since, coming from D&D, I thought my players would want to do Hooding runs.

I've only ever used it for making my character's home; it's a fairly involved process, you'd generally be better off using something like Campaign Cartographer imo.

They're like playing Missions. Very little personal character growth, but the interplay you get from bumping into the same characters occasionally can be fun. I wouldn't say they're bad, but it's definitely nothing compared to playing with your own regular group.

No worries, I had a vague suspicion it was going to be something like the player adding his magic and his skill and his pool or something silly like that.

The Vory is involved in smuggling just about anything in or out of Seattle. Guns, drugs, sex slaves, you name it.

As for a run involving Evo, it doesn't really matter. Either way is a hook for your player to do a little more roleplaying.

Object resistance will kick you in the teeth. It resists your (Artificing + MAG (Limited by the formula Force), can't spend EDG) with (Force of the Formula) + (Object Resistance, 15+ as it's a highly processed item). Your net hits are what's left over. Once you've done that, you then resist 2 stun for every hit the telesma got. If you get knocked unconscious by this then you have to make the test again. If you glitch the crafting test, you don't get to resist the drain. If you critically glitch, fuck you you use a point of Essence (And therefore MAG as well).

Another option would be B&E - HALO onto the rooftop, rappel down, break some windows and rely on speed. Go loud, go fast - get in, rely on extraterritoriality for giving you a bit of time to escape.

OK, considering that you've got a troll and explosives, expanding on this: >>47868940

Weld or explode elevators (express elevators first, of course) slowing security response. Throw some explosives down the shafts if you need to distract from your original goal. At a sprint, The Frog can hit 43 meters a turn, or 860 meters a minute. 32 miles per hour doesn't touch your 70MPH, but she does get to make those in gigantic 10 meter hops, jumping rather than running. She's clearing two car lengths in each bound, and can jump high enough to clear 3 meters of vertical distance, roughly enough to hop onto the roof of a one-story building in a single bound.

Street Samurai are ridiculous.
>>
>>47856460
If you're 4e, you can also make an Inhabitation Pact with a particularly strong wolflike Free Spirit. Then it possesses your body every time you sleep, causing you to wolf out and lose control of your body as the spirit goes for a stroll. It's very much in the spirit of 'wake up with shredded pants and a sense of lingering dread' old werewolf stories.

Why precisely your character would make such a pact, what they're getting out of it, how tolerant of their own needs the spirit is, and how they're going to deal with the drawbacks of a powerful beast monster wandering around in their skin is something you'll have to ask your GM about.

>>
>>47871085

a) Courier run? Since they already have the objective they don't have to stop and fight, they are already on the run and simply need to get to the drop off point.

b) Local gangs are having a war and the runners are hired to help one of them in the fight. They could start with a recon mission to find a weakness among the enemy (as they won't be as suspicious of random runners rather than their hated enemies) and then perhaps hired to hit a target or two among the enemy gang.
>>

Awesome, thanks! I'll pick up Market Panic next opportunity.
>>
>>47871085

SWAT teams are supposed to be scary, and getting into any kind of a firefight with them should mean that someone seriously fucked up along the way.

Runners aren't supposed to go in guns blazing (usually, at least). Legwork is usually at least as important as the run itself - if you manage to gather the security codes, hack yourself a pass, and kidnap scientist's daughter so that he uploads the worm you gave him, you need to worry way less about the possible firefights.
>>
>>47871085
The incredibly high legality of the game was identified by the publishers, and so they later added Form Fitting Armor (FFA) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the game.

These items are cheap, they stack with existing armor, and everyone and their mom can wear them. The end result is a lot more shock damage and a lot less lethal damage, meaning it's possible for a gang-banger to roll above average with his shitty SMG and not murder everyone but the cyber-trog.
>>
>>47871085
>An actual swat team with stun grenades and murder-drones would wipe the floor with the runner team.

Good. Read the next sentence carefully: That is the whole point of Shadowrun!

Even in a Pink Mohawk as fuck campaign, the point is not to kill everything in sight, but do criminal stuff. With huge guns, explosions and lots of property damage; but always in fast, out even faster and never getting caught.
>>
>>47871345

> kidnap scientist's daughter

This reminds me how once we tried something similar. We expected the daughter to be magically tracked, so we bagged her in a Faraday bag and trucked her around in the riggervan.

So, the mages got annoyed and sent us a fireball with its force in -teens.

Rolling up new characters is time consuming, but after a while people get the form down, and they can crank out variations on the basic archetypes all day.

But SR is not a game about pulling punches. It's a game where you are the have-nots, with some special skills (but in comparison to the haves, really nothing special at all) trying to survive. You can burn some Edge to save yourself a couple of times, but mostly you want to avoid letting someone shoot you in the head in the first place.
>>
>>47871758
I got the impression, especially with how butch BP you get at char gen, that you are less "poor nobodies" and more "oceans 11 with guns and magic"

20 dice isn't that hard to get at character gen, and the game implies that that is incredibly powerful.

I might be reading the theme wrong though.
>>
>>47871821
>oceans 11 with guns and magic
that actually hit's the core point.
What was 90 % of the Oceans X movies?

Legwork

Getting floor plans. acquiring tools, placing informants, setting up disturbances, etc.
Only at the very end did they go in, steal the big stuff, and quickly escape.

Your enemies are better armed, have home ground and are more numerous. That's why you don't let them act until you are almost gone. Be sneaky, disrupt their communications, do whatever you can so that they only find the aftermath of your actions, not you.

maybe put 1 rank in etiquette so you don't default?
>>
>>47875573
You should try to get an odd number to both BOD and WIL, since that nets you another phys/stun box.

Get better armour. Geek the mage, remember? You want to be able to soak dem boolits.

Your etiquette, sneaking and perception suck. Consider pumping those.

Getting another fake SIN for running is a good idea. Also your primary fake should be a R4.

You have no method of boosting initiative. Consider picking up the improved initiative spell for that.

You should try to get 12+ dice for what you consider your main role. If you're just rolling 9, you won't be getting very far I think.

Also you took natural athlete, but you don't have any points in gymnastics. You get +2 dice to the skill by spending 2 karma, so I think it's pretty questionable to spend 7 karma on the quality.

Your ammo selection is a bit lacking. Consider some APDS.

Lockpick set, but no points in locksmithing?

Just some things off the top of my head.

Let's say that I was to derive a lighter system from Shadowrun and write it up. (I've got a fair bit already, so this isn't theoretical.) Shadowrun with the exploits fixed and some of the complexity dialed down a bit, basically.

>I'm going fully to one end of the wired/wireless scale or the other, none of the mixed junk we have now. Which is preferable? Leaning wireless, personally.
>I'm seriously considering stripping out magic entirely, but that's a bit too drastic of a step. Would it be a worse idea to fix the system instead- moving to an entirely different magic style, more similar to Mage or GURPS RPM?

Is this a karmagen build or Priority? If it was priority, then you should make sure you're not spending skill points on rank 1 skills, it's very inefficient. Use skill points to get your most important skills to high ratings, then spend karma on the low-level stuff.

mfw I've read earlier today in Core 5ed that R1 can have a wrong gender with a corresponding name, even. Patrols must be used to some weird stuff.

"Hey, Bob... does that huge troll read as Joanna Sparkle to you?"
"Must frequent Metumblr. Don't bother, partner."

>I'm seriously considering stripping out magic entirely, but that's a bit too drastic of a step. Would it be a worse idea to fix the system instead- moving to an entirely different magic style, more similar to Mage or GURPS RPM?
Shadowrun's thing is being fantasy/cyberpunk. If you're changing the system AND removing one of the key elements of the setting then you might as well just play a different game.
Why not grab the D6 system or Mini6 and run a fully cyberpunk game, add Akira style psionics for that fantasy bit.

It's perfectly in character for a Sioux to have a smartlinked gun even though they have no way to take advantage of it.

It is something that was specificall mentioned in one of the Sioux nation books.

Stupid, but in character. (My Sioux shaman does have goggles that help him actually use the smartlinked guns he has because unlike the average Sioux his gun isn't for hunting or the hypothetical and unlikely UCAS invasion / machismo.)
>>
>>47875999
Rating 1 fake sin is used for stuff like buying soy-caf from the store or traveling in the city. The average storeowner ain't gonna bother checking your ID closely if you aren't buying something restricted and neither won't they have the best damn equipment to check your SIN.

And if you are just one person walking in the crowd your fake SIN merely means that the spam mail you get will have Supa-Viagra ads instead of "Does your vagina have awakened centipedes?" ads.
>>
>>47876266
I don't remember reading anything like that. Personal firearms are common, but getting needless technology put into your weapon isn't.

Shadows in focus: Sioux nation. Page 39.

>Weapon Accessories: It’s considered somewhat
gauche to carry heavily modified weapons, so most wear
their weapons clean with no weapon attachments or styling.
One notable exception is the smartlink, which is common—
even when the user doesn’t have a smartgun implant
or goggles. Smartgun systems are Legal in the Sioux Nation.
Sioux law frowns on concealed weapons of all kinds,
even knives, and the SNP comes down hard on accessories
intended to make weapons harder to detect; for this reason,
concealable holsters are 5F and hidden arm slides 7F. Sioux
shadowrunners avoid carrying these “criminal implements”
with streetwear unless absolutely necessary.

Neurostun-VIII and Chlorofoam do a fuckton of stun damage to everyone in the room if you gas grenade it in there or whatever, but wouldn't it kill everyone too? Neurostun VIII lasts for 10 minutes after contact, during which everyone is being affected by it once per turn, right? So on turn 1 they take 13S, turn 2 they take 15S, turn 3 they take 11S, and then they're dead?

Am I missing something?

I'd probably buy a shotgun, some EXEX, and just cut my hair via my mouth.

But the whole point of 'never deal with a dragon' is that you will end up not liking the deal you made, and you can't get rid of the dragon. Killing one is nearly impossible, and even if you do there's going to be other people who will punish you for that, or who become the interested party and take over the deal where the dragon left off.

Well then you call Cobra Force, the greatest Pornographic Military Company in the world. They freed Rhodesia and South Africa from the tyrants that set up there. If anyone here wants to play a SR4e game on roll20 let me know I don't REALLY need a mage but if you want to play one that would cool.

I have to leave for work so I make sure to check here.

We have a offsite hacker because I'm a lazy shit and don't know the rules for it and the game is pretty combat heavy Think of rainbow six with shadow running on the side -tactics of the players but they still have a good time from what I can see I will point out that the over all campaign is almost over (more like I'm starting to run out of ideas fast as shit) but I can think of more things to do if the players want to keep playing.

It's first time gming but we have been going on for almost a year so if your new I can deal with that.

If you REALLY REALLY want to play a hacker we can try it but I rather not

> Drakes don't choose their masters, they're literally bred for service and brainwashed from birth.

Not all of them. A good chunk of drakes awaken from non-drake families. From there, it's just a matter of which great dragon gets to you first, which you absolutely have some level of control over assuming you have any financial means at all. And don't tell me that the nearest great dragon will by necessity grab you in this scenario, because if that's the case, there wouldn't be any free drakes who got away.

Also I just realized how metaphysically confused Shadowrun is.

> Literally everything has a documented essential nature
