Which female character from the Sixth World you like most and why?

>Which female character from the Sixth World you like most and why?

Netcat, cause she's a pretty cool gal: seh kills ICs and doesn't afraid of anything

Serious question though: I know that there are several urban sports that are born with the 6th World: Urban combat, etc. But what about traditional sports?
Is cyberware/magic forbidden in these sports? Are there leagues designed for trolls or are they allowed to compete with other metahuman? How have your favorite sport evolved?
>>
You *do* need a license to be a mage, right?
>>
>>47746256
depends on the sport, IIRC soccer is divided into a "pure" league and an augmented league.
>>47746294
you need a license to be a legal mage, yes. Depends on the country though. From what I read it varies between "no harm, no problem" and "you have to register, give a tissue sample and all kinds of shit to be allowed to use it at all"

So is there any ficition or fluff about what happened to the amish or other traditionalists in the same vain.
Or are we just going with mega corps pulled legal shenanigans and built highways over there homes and made the wage slaves.

I mean they probably moved away from urban centers and found ways to deal with paracritters. Although they probably wouldn't like bieng forced off their god given land

Where is the rules on spirits and the matrix?
Could a spirit watch and enjoy a trid?
Could a spirit play games on a commlink?
Could a spirit pose as a young child on the matrix to lure men and women to their home?
>>
>>47747603
Possession spirits can't use any technological/electronic function of a device they possess. Other than that, it's all fluff, but spirits don't like technology and don't mess around with it. Most of them don't like being summoned, tbhonest- they'd rather hang out on their metaplane, not play Chris Hanson for you.
>>
>>47747651
So could oddball spirits DJ some radio waves or play MMOs?
>>
>>47747682
Building off that, what would be better to summon to have grind your characters in a typical WoW like MMO?
Task spirits, because it's a task?
Man spirits, cause man?
Guardian spirits, cause combat?
>>
>>47747682
It's not so much 'oddball' as it is 'unprecedented'. Even Buttercup the free spirit uses a proxy to do all her work with commlinks and other tech.

Theoretically there's nothing saying a spirit couldn't use a mixer if they stick to only mechanical interactions, but none of them would do it per fluff.

Making an ally spirit. Choosing powers right now. Powers available to me: (Force 5, 4th edition)
Fear, Guard, Magical Guard, Movement, Animal Control, Concealment, Elemental Attack, Natural Weapondry, Psychikiinesis, Skill (Combat skill), Binding, Engulf, Noxious Breath, Search, Accident, Energy Aura, Weather Control

Skill (Combat Skill) (Guardian spirit) seems to be like a winner here, for at least one weapon.
Natural Weapondry seems like a good choice too.
Concealment doesn't seem wrong either.

What else would be good? Spirits available to me:
Earth
Fire
Air
Water
Guardian

His sense of humor sucks.
He's fucking his adopted daughter, Woody Allen style, despite an approx 7000 year age difference.
He routinely subjects people to passive-aggressive mindfucks just because of his personal issues, with a triple emphasis on the aggressive.
He has daddy issues.
He has hipster fashion sense.
He has hipster taste in general.
He likes to post cryptic comments on message boards implying he knows everything about a given subject, but never actually posts real information.
He deals with dragons.
He figured out how and why Dunkelzahn died and the only being he told was Ryan Mercury, and that was just because he happened to fucking be there at the time. He didn't tell any of the dragons he deals with on a regular basis, so as far as they know there was never any risk of the world ending and their "bunker down" strategy remains sensible. Like, Dunk kept going "Guys. Guys. Guys. Guys. GUYS. THE HORRORS WILL USE TECHNOLOGY AGAINST US, WE CAN'T JUST HIDE IN OUR LAIRS" and all the other dragons were just like "naww", even though Dunkelzahn was known as the most far-sighted of dragons (literally called "far-scholar") and then Dunkelzahn had to fucking KILL HIMSELF to prevent the world from ending, and Cambruel was all like, *shrug*

I am at an impasse.

A group of people I play games with had our Iron Kingdoms GM walk out on us due to conflict between him and two of our members, and after I mentioned I've always wanted to play Shadowrun we're doing a game of 5th edition. Nobody, the new GM included, has any experience playing Shadowrun. Outside myself and one other guy who played all the Shadowrun Returns games, nobody else has any knowledge of Shadowrun at all. I've payed attention in these threads and built characters before, and passed out Chummer 5 to everyone on the google drive; so far we have an elf cybersamurai gunslinger who knowing the player is going to be edgy as shit and have no skills at all beyond ones for killing things; the player who pays the least attention in games is playing an Oni pitfighter with decent-ish face skills and general athletic/survival skills with no augments, and the other guy who knows what Shadowrun is wants to play a max-edge rigger. He also talked about becoming an adept at some point.

I was originally thinking of playing a physical adept infiltrator, but I'm not sure if we're going to be fucked without a full-on mage or a full-on decker. Part of the problem is the GM has given us literally nothing on the kind of game he wants to run, so I have nothing that I can base an informed decision on.

Our first session is in two days.

If you don't know how your GM is going to do things, then just make some sort of magic guy. I know mine doesn't go out of his way to put in problems that certain specialists can only do such as pitting watcher spirits on an all mundane party, but he would have expected us to at least occasionally hire a mage to help on the astral front.
>>
I'm gonna introduce a whole bunch of technomancer NPCs (it's a "tribe" living on some old boats where they sell information). What's a good way to roleplay technomancers without making them the kids in the kitchen from the first Matrix movie?
>>
>>47754368
have them possess some ability to converse and keep their weirdness to themselves? how does Hitomi manage to keep her technomancerness to herself when at board meetings?
>>
>>47754368
You know how people really into (thing) sound like they use a foreign language despite speaking english?

Like that. When they start babbling about -how- they do things, nobody that is not a TM understands what they're saying.
>>
>>47754368
Also, I need to come up with an explanation for how a bunch of people living on some old boats outside of LA can get enough electricity to power all their tech. Is cold fusion a thing in Shadowrun that's common enough that they could have found or built a small fusion reactor, or should I give them a looted fission reactor instead?
>>
>>47754379
The idea is that they chose to live in a collective for mutual protection and to get away from the megacorps and others who want to get their hands on technomancers. There are also a some normal hackers and a couple of dozen "normal humans" (I think they meant metahumans, because they don't seem like the kind of people who would be picky about race). And they've been out there for about a decade, so some kind of culture should have emerged by now.
>>
>>47754389
That's a good place to start. I'm also imagining that some of them would be so used to talking with and through machines that they find it really awkward, slow and even difficult to actually talk with their meat bodies.
>>
>>47754426
But how do they communicate with the rest of the world? Does one of those hackers go out and gets food or whatever else they might need for everyone else? Maybe he is the guy who is like a kind of interpreter.
>>
>>47754436
Yeah, food would be a problem. From what little there is in the official books about them (a paragraph in Corporate Enclaves), the idea seems to be that they have a solid reputation in the LA shadows for being able to find absolutely any information you want, for a price. They're also notoriously paranoid (for good reason). I take this to mean that they trade for food either with money they earn from their services or as barter, but I'm also giving them some simple greenhouses (actual farming and fishing isn't an option, since the area is toxic). I also imagine that they do most of their communications with the outside world through the Matrix.
>>
>>47754436
>>47754471

Drone delivery services are a thing. No real need for any of them to get out as long as they can order on the Matrix and pay.
>>
>>47754484
Then its more than likely, unless one of those technomancers has some ability to communicate with non technomancers, that they'll be like those spoon kids in the matrix.
>>
>>47754484
Yeah, they definitely would use drones to get them stuff they need. After all, machines are a lot easier to trust for a technomancer than flesh and blood couriers.

Plan 9 claims they have shark biodrones as guard animals, but take that with a big handful of salt.
>>
>>47754506
Remember that there are a bunch of non-technomancers living there as well, though. I assume they mostly do the manual labor.
>>
>>47754518
And as it seems, those deckers would also be so often out of meatspace, that they'd be pretty far out of it too.

Unless one of your party is a decker or technomancer, who can speak the lingo, I'd say scrap that plan.
>>
>>47754529
But the weirdness of it all is the whole point why I want to include them. It gives my players something to overcome. It's called roleplaying, and it's fun.

And the PCs also have an advantage in a NPC ally who has had some previous experience with the technomancers.
>>
>>47748928
You missed>>47747040

I didn't draw them, someone else did. I just saved them. Trust me, the gnoll was hideous.

>>47750020
Offerings of food are traditional in many traditions as a way to show respect for a spirit when you summon them. Whether they 'eat' it (i.e. put it in the mouth space of their current body, because they don't actually need to digest food) or simply destroy it like burnt offerings is unconfirmed.
>>
>>47750020
I think offering of food is mostly just symbolic more than anything else. It's a thing in pretty much every culture I've ever heard of, both because it's a sacrifice ("You are so important that I'm giving up some of my precious, vital food that I worked hard for. Because you're worth it.") and a sign of good will and respect ("If I wanted to be nice to a human guest, I'd treat them to a nice dinner. You're a mystical entity that I can barely comprehend, but I still want to offer this nice dinner to show how much I respect you". Even if they don't eat, I think most spirits still understand and appreciate the gesture.
>>
>>47754395
The waters are radioactive, and there's a bunch of the city that collapsed into the sea during the repeated earthquakes.

Have the boats sail around between several jury-rigged power stations, connected to wave generators and forgotten power lines still being fed by the city. The technomancers use their skills to feel out where these conduits are and to build machinery that raises and lowers the outlet (for lack of a better word). These places also serve as Matrix nodes that connect them to the mainland.

They can't take too much from any one place for long, but if they keep them in good repair they can keep going forever.
>>
>>47754673
...that's way cooler than what I had in mind. And wireless energy transfer is a thing in Shadowrun, right?
>>
>>47754701

You earn Ares Funbucks for completing activities like playing certain learning-based games, competing in design contests, or assembling the most toys from a set of parts, and you can spend your Funbucks on cool avatar designs (everyone in the host looks like children, except for the mods, but you can get sweet patches on your jeans or light-up shoes that let you run really fast), sim-candy, physical copies of your designs printed and sent to your home for Mom and Dad to admire, etc. It's the next step up from plopping the kids in front of after-school TV, they get fun playtime and Ares gets to teach them work skills and indoctrinate them into Ares Culture (Uncle Sam the Bald Eagle flies around the park, and if you can catch up and answer his questions about Ares history, you get special bonus Funbucks).

>>47756549
Well, simply say which is the most disliked as a character and which as a shadowrunner
>>
>>47756484
At least Clockwork adds something useful to the conversation, whether information or a different viewpoint. Frosty is a bad joke that has gone on too long.

Personally, I really dislike Man of Many Names. Occasionally he'll say something that's actually useful (when there's a section to be written), but his comments are entirely vaguely foreboding fortune cookie shit. I know blood magic is bad, Elminster, give me something that I can use, as a GM or player, or stop chewing up pagecount. I don't care that you're Sorcerer Supreme and hang out with all the cool spirits, it doesn't do dick for my story about professional criminals in a pseudo-fantasy cyberpunk dystopia.

So thinking about making a Nazi cyborg character.
He would be the result of crazy Nazi supersoldier tech that has survived well past his expiration date and into the year 2075.
He would use all omegaware to represent the archaic cyber and have difficulty adapting to modern tech.
The questions are however:

I know that the Specializations are not exhaustive (though they find space to differentiate between 'extended-range shot' and 'long-range shot') but it's strange. It's the only place in the book that I can find that even hints at what skill is supposed to be used with cyber-guns.

Saying 'cyber-implant is a possibility for all weapon skills' is something that makes sense, but sense has no bearing on how CGL does rules.

That's what I'm going with, until the GM says otherwise.

Also, unexpected thing in Chummer- got a skilljack, started buying knowsofts and linguasofts, and found out that it was taking the ratings of those chips out of the pile of free Knowledge skill points. While it says it's buying it with Karma, my actual karma remaining is not going down, and I'm not aware of any other rule that says that 'softs have to paid for twice (with nuyen and karma; in fact, I thought paying with nuyen alone was the whole point)

The runners can also be non-violent. Sneaking in and out without being seen is probably the optimal result for most missions.

And of course there are non-lethal options as well. It can cause complications but if you do it well it also means that the bounty on the team is smaller.

And seeing as most of the missions are different types of theft and espionage (with kill missions being specially mentioned as bad jobs that offer less karma) it's not that the runners are always terrorists.

Yes, runners are professionals. They do what they do as a profession. Another Chummer cybergun post.
>The Custom Shotgun has a rating of 12R and a Test time period, though none of the other guns have anything in those categories. Mistake in Chummer?

Also, I wouldn't mind some help interpreting this passage
> ...a vast array of firearms became available in cybergun variants. Each uses their own statline as normal—for example, an Ares Predator V uses Ares Predator V stats, not “Implant Heavy Pistol” stats, though it uses the same Essence and Capacity as a normal cybergun of that type. In the case of an Ares Predator V, that would be 0.5 Essence/[6] Capacity, as a normal Implant Heavy Pistol. Modification of a normal gun into a cyber-implant version costs are shown on the following chart, while Availability is increased by 4.
CF90

Does that mean that the basic cybergun Availability increases by 4 (meaning they now all range between 12R and 24F, most of them over 12), or that the Availability of the gun being modified increases by 4 (in the case of a Predator, from 5R to 9R), while the cybergun implant Availability remains the same?

It's the difference between being able to have a custom cybergun at chargen or having to use the basic model.

>>47760232

I'm thinking that's probably what they did, because it's unlikely they'd put in something that would make it very difficult to get a custom cybergun at chargen, and most people aren't going to want to go back under the knife in-game for a slight improvement of their gun.
>>
>>47760958
The availability of the gun you want to implant goes up, so the Predator V goes from 5 to 9. This is mostly so people don't put anything to strong in their arms at char gen, I imagine.
The cybergun implant stays the same.

The german writers at Pegasus are currently working on a box for total pnp newbies. It won't add anything to the game and shouldn't be seen as a supplement for the game because the rules are watered down quite a lot for the sake of accessability. It'll feature a small campaign, with 3 adventures that start out rather combat focused (with grids and markers for tactical play) and proceed to shift the focus towards the roleplay.

Don't know if they're going to translate it though, just wanted to let you guys know.

Question about spirits that came up during our last game:
I know you can only have one unbound spirit active at a time, but what about BOUND spirits?

Say I have five force 6 spirits bound, can I just seriously ruin someone's day and send them all out into a fight at the same time?
One guy in our group argues that you can only ever command one spirit at a time, bound or unbound, while the other says that since he payed money (in summoning components) and possible drain damage, he should be allowed to use services of all his spirits without limitations.

Which one is it? 4th ed, if that makes any difference.

If it was just 'kid is really good at hacking, but is young and doesn't understand shadowrunning,' that's fine.

But 'kid is not only an expert decker, but is also able to track down Kane and physically surprise him during a poker game despite the numerous government agencies and private outfits failing to do the same, and instead of wasting her like the merciless pirate he is Kane takes her in and decides to teach her... something,' is a bit hard to stomach.

The possibility of poker in the sixth world fascinates me. Skillsofts, magick, theory and common strategy that's advanced by 60 years. I bet skillsoft use would be trivially counterable because it would tend towards predictability, but then that allows anyone with cyber to pull a level by feigning that style then switching gears at an opportune time. How do you tell a magician from a luckbox though? Casinos would have to monitor every player for long-run performance to look for odds discrepancies. Poker is already a loss-leader now for them, with slots pulling in pretty much all their money, the amount of extra overhead that would be needed to keep the game honest would be absurd. And that's not even getting into where to draw the line with magick; could a dragon shaman call on their mentor spirit to boost their charisma during heads up play? That doesn't seem like cheating to me, just pushing an edge.

So either poker is a giant unregulated unplayable clusterfuck for all but certain awakened, casinos are investing an unreasonable amount of resources into keeping the game going (possibly for its television ratings?), or poker has only survived in house games.

And I mean, Texas Hold 'em is pretty much analyzed to death, so imagine what a game like PLO Hi/Lo must be like to play. It would literally be a dragon detecting machine, just look for the player actually winning.

It's hard for me to dislike Clockwork, because 1) he's the officially designated asshole, so it's hard for me to actually be mad at him and 2) I really believe Shadowrun should dial down some on technomancer/ AI shit (as well as magic, but it's kinda besides the point). Kane is also a sphincter puncturer, but he must be there (as well as Rigger X) to remind players how it's not all candy and roses in running biz.

Slamm0 is an annoying manchild, so I'm probably gonna vote for him, even if only because he's so prolific.

Also, for some reason I believe that there's going to be some kind of "CLOCKWORK WAS RIGHT" reveal at the end of 5e.
>>
Quick question; if you're a mystic adept, do you need a mage license, an adept license, or both?
>>
>>47768864
I'd say you need a "Mystic Adept" license. The time where they were misunderstood misfits is over, now they're just "those weird adepts that also can cast a couple of spells".
>>
>>47768864
You need a license for whatever you're going to use/be assensed for that would require a license. Keep it under wraps when you're broadcasting that SIN, and you don't need any of it.

This is my first time building a mystic adept, so I have no idea how viable this character is.

Have I fucked up, and if so how badly?
>>

At first sight:
- Way too much direct damage spells
- No gun; enjoy becoming the priority target in 99,99% of the cases.

First thing you do is get some points in automatics and buy a machinepistol you keep in a holster/in your hands to stop screaming "MAGE!" to even the dumbest ganger around.

Get rid of Knockout, you really don't want to be in melee; pick your poison between Ice Lance and Flamethrower and drop the other.

>Also, for some reason I believe that there's going to be some kind of "CLOCKWORK WAS RIGHT" reveal at the end of 5e.

Well, he got one at the end of 4e with the 'FastJack is a headcase' thing. Maybe this time it will be 'technomancers cause Crash 3.0, everyone finally agrees that they are monsters.'

Couldn't you just have him be a pet project of a megacorps who have attempted to "update" him? Like say a high level exec is into collecting Nazi memorabilia and took a personal interest in him. Would give you some room to make a sympathetic character too with the "mutilated by my countrymen, then by the men who found me" angle.
>>
>>47769480
I took knockout because I have a decent compliment of infiltrator/face skills to hit people unaware, and figure since its drain is F-6 you can use a lot higher force to make sure the guy goes down in one hit without risking a lot of damage in return.

That not a good enough reason to have it?
>>
>>47769581
Not really. You can take high enough Force without risk, sure. But you'll still need a fuckload of (net) hits, enough to fill the target's stun track, on your test (14 dice vs. target's WIL) to make the guy go down in one hit. Considering "Average Joe" with WIL 3 has 10 stun boxes, you'll need one hell of a good roll...

If you want a "Surprise Motherfucker!" one-shot spell, it's Punch and not Knockout you need. That one deals Force + hits on spellcasting test. The guy gets no defence roll if he's surprised (hooray!) and you can go completely all-out at Force 12 (your max of MAG*2). You hit the loser on average with 16-17S and -12AP, because it's magic and fuck your armor, trogga! You'll have to resist a drain of 6, which probably won't leave you unscathed either, but your target will be down!

When is it appropriate for a runner to kidnap their family that they have been estranged from, and also believe that you are dead for a while to make sure they don't get caught in any potential crossfire?

>>47769824
... Yeah, that's what I was talking about. Did you think I pulled Cuba out of my ass, anon.

>>47769865
Yes it is. Metafiction stories that have no bearing on the books they're included in (for instance, the story in Howling Shadows had no animals), but basically some mage skanks tricked /dev/grrl into going to Cuba, then kidnapped and tortured her a bit. Last scene was an escape attempt.
>>
>>47769901
Maybe I should actually read those stories, however our group doesn't ever include any of those prime runners, or even Opti for that matter, and the only people who are major in the fluff who are mentioned at all are people like Damien Knight, Art Vogel, etc.
>>
>>47769782
Other things you might want to consider (on top of getting a gun. Seriously, just buy one and tote it around even if you cannot use it.):
- Drop one rank of Voice Control for Combat Sense. Your Social Limit is ginormous already, especially with your gear. Combat Sense gives you a chance not to be taken by surprise and react whenever SHTF. Quite useful for an Infiltrator.
- Get the Armor Spell. By RAW, Zoe and Mortimer don't stack, so you only have 14 armor. Not bad, but a good hit from an AR, a shotgun using slugs or a hunting rifle will make you take physical damage. An armor spell boosting it to 18-20 would make sure you only take stun in situations where the opposition has more than handguns available. (Unless you dance in front of an assault cannon or eat a rocket, but okay...)
- If you decide to put some points into a gun skill, consider getting a Chi Focus with Attribute Boost (AGI) rank 1 for a cheap boost whenever you try to hit something.

> Yfw Kane steals an Ares destroyer with orky levels of guns strapped into it to save the daughteru
>>
>>47769929
Wait, they don't stack? The Argentum coat has the Custom Fit (Stack) property, which I thought was specifically to allow it to stack +4 armor onto another piece of armor with the Custom Fit property, so long as you're the person both pieces of armor are custom fit for.
>>
>>47769971
Custom fit stacks only from items of the same designer

Most of the stories are not great (though I do have to give a shoutout to the guy who did the orc Bogart story in Emerald Shadows or Ruling The Queen City) but that one stuck with me for being so out of place.

Usually they try to match the story with whatever the book is about, and usually they don't even have the JackPointers in them (it's some random people who can be killed off). This one reads like they started in Hard Targets in the Cuba section, but couldn't finish in time, and now they're serializing it wherever they can fit it in.
>>
>>47769971
Same maker only, by RAW. Check with your GM, this is typically a point they're willing to be lax upon.

But even if they do stack, you have another issue. With only 3 in strength, you'd suffer a -1 to AGI and REA because you're overburdened with your +6 to base armor.

>>47770002
It fits with Howling Shadows because dev's escape is being helped by a strange metaplanar being, which are described in HS.

Reminder there are actual spirits of shadowrunning now.
>>
>>47769993
Oh, that is some rude shit. I guess that frees up some money for more gear though.
>>
>>47770046
>It fits with Howling Shadows because dev's escape is being helped by a strange metaplanar being, which are described in HS.

Something that would be clear if the story was in that section, instead of a header for the Mudane Critters chapter. If you hadn't said that, I would have continued to think that the magic light she saw was literally just any spirit conjured by someone trying to help, and not a corpselight (which usually aren't in caves, and don't help people anyways).

Cyberbump with a question

Making an ex-Boston Massacre, very Irish thanks to the personachip, only Irish woman with shotgun fists. Any suggestions for a name? I'm looking for something short and snappy, the kind of thing the BM marketing department would come up with based on how easily they think drunk fans could chant it.

The working name is Lass, which is serviceable but pretty underwhelming.
>>
>>47771844
My favorite thing to do is leave your runner with a shitty or no street name, and then have your group develop one for you.
>>
>>47771893
That's a possibility, but she did escape with her jersey with a name stencilled on the back.

The group may give her a new name, but I want a decent place to start from.

Is the latest release of Chummer5a just exploding and crashing for basically everything? I can't seem to get AI or Life Modules to work at all, and even really mundane stuff is causing crashes.
>>
>>47773859
Got most of a streetsam done in 5.181.0, didn't have any problems with crashes. There was something going on with MAG/RES characters, did you get the nightly that addresses that?

shit man, at this rate I'm not gonna be able to make my mysad characters again.

I just hope life modules get fixed.

I used to be able to delete a life module quality, now it tries to crash whenever I do.

shit sucks bruh.
