I’ve heard people were really turned off by the writing of my recent Bard Quest and that the interactions sounded bland and boring, and I consider this a very dire issue. I was advised by an anon to go through Aight and Hijacker’s stuff which were better on that aspect according to him.
And after going through Dirt Work’s first thread, I think I think I have I identified what’s the problem and why the dialogue sounded so bland in Bard Quest.
In Dirty Work, almost every sentence of a character in punctuated by an expression, a mimic, or an indication on the tone of the character and spoken words only made for between half and a third of dialogue scenes in text volume. Meanwhile, the dialogues in Bard quest have almost been only succession of actually spoken works, with almost no indication on how these works were spoken.
I thought the choice of words from the characters would be enough to convey their feelings and expressiveness, but from how it turned out, it actually only existed in my head and I failed to convey that to my readers. Without these kind of precisions, the similarities with a random and monotonous vidya NPC become understandable, as these, despite their sometimes grandiloquent sentences, just spit the text out while simply just standing still with a monotonous voice.
It also seems that I made my characters speak too much, from a volume of commands inferior to what Aight receives in his quest, my characters have ten times more lines per post that his. I’m trying too much at this point, and what I thought was adding some flavour and character development was only drawing out what was already worthy of little interest.

Same goes for Hijack, his writing is more description than spoken words, even if his drawings already convey a lot of that, and he has still been cited for writing enjoyable dialogue. On the other side, Northern excursion has a dialogue pattern much closer to Bard Quest at some points, and I do remember Nips getting some negative critics about his writing, which still goes in the sense of my analysis.
With that in mind, I think I can really make the text a lot better in Bard quest.Would anyone care for giving me second chance?

Largely speaking there's a pretty large divide in psychological thought whether or not there is anything such as unlearned skill.
Generally speaking some people will be better at certain tasks. But can that be attributed to changes in environment as a child, etc.? It's impossible to say without superior understanding of the human brain than what we have.
Generally speaking though, all of the really great artists you're going to see started shitty and just worked worked worked worked until they got good.
Saying natural talent is the most critical point is untrue, and vastly disrespects those who did put in the work to git gud.

Yes but most artist started out like anyone else, garbage at it. Sure occasionally you'll find someone with a natural inclination towards it but even they still have to practice to get good at what they do. It's not like every artist you see was like Mozart as a child where they were a master at a young age, they just enjoyed drawing so they kept at it and got better because of that experience.

The way I heard not long ago, talent could be interpreted as one's ability to learn and improve faster due to inclination for that particular skill. Personally, I hate drawing. Always have. I have a feeling that my elementary school art teachers didn't like me very much. One always thought I gave no effort in class. I knew my drawings were the worst in the class and the teacher did too. One time, I handed in a drawing and she said "No, you can do better than that," So she made me stay in from recess and make the drawing better. Which involved me taking a pencil to the drawing and drawing bricks over the building. I'm certain it made it look worse and I hated every second of it.
Point is. Someone who enjoys drawing will be more likely to keep drawing and keep practicing and get better. On the other hand, I have such a deep hatred for drawing that I never do it and never wanted to do it.

First of all, don't stop when a piece is "done". Stop when you've achieved what you're looking for. Something looks bad? Redraw it. Then redraw it again. Do it until it looks good.
Second, draw and draw again. If you want to be good at legs, draw pages and pages of just legs. Find what you're bad at, practice until you're good, rinse and repeat.
Don't look at artists you like, look at the process of artists you like. Look at their sketches. Look at what they're good at. Look at what they're bad at.
Finally, ask for critique. Then LISTEN TO CRITIQUE.

Let's say you draw a thing, and you hate it.
What do you hate about it? And don't say you don't know, because if you hate it then you can recognize there are problems.
Draw something else, keeping the problems of your last image in mind.
Continue drawing until suddenly, you look at an image and say, "Hey, you know I don't entirely hate that." Maybe its not as good as other artists, but you know what? Screw other artists. You aren't them, but you don't need to be.
You don't have to draw until you look at your art and love it, you just have to draw and have something you think turned out okay.
It takes a hell of a lot of time, or sometimes you get lucky and you learn quickly.
But regardless of whether or not you hate drawing. If you keep it up, and recognize the things you do like, and expand on those, you will improve.
