Bought some of these. They arrived today, gave them a test at home and on a packed metro.
tl;dr they're pretty darn nice for the price. Bass heavy if that's your thing, so rock and orchestral soundtracks yes, mozart's violin concerto no. Feel solid and comfy. If they're the right shape for your ears there's a fair amount of enclosing noise cutoff. If they fall apart or bust a cable within the next few weeks I'll eat my words, but pretty impressed.

I feel like the HD800 has plenty of bass, unless you mean Grado levels of bass. Try modding with a resonator or getting the HD800S to tame the highs, it'll let you turn the volume up a bit and bring the bass out more.

Its all a matter of what you get used to. The denons can push out cinematic levels of bass when needed, sure the hd800 is more accurate but they dont blow your mind and ears in some movies.

Well, from my experience Grados and planar-magnetics push out the meatiest bass at the TOTL level as far as open-back cans go, but they're usually heavy or uncomfortable or both.

Just go for the Q701s if they're that cheap. that's $50 off the normal price. At least you'll have a better idea of what headphone you want when you increase your budget up to $250-$500.

Personally, I'm not a fan of anything marketed by a celebrity even if it's apparently a decent headphone according to reviews. Frequencies looks a bit exaggerated in the middle though if I had to say something more justifiable against it.

Roll-off the bass using EQ. Piston 3 has better measurements than Hybrid.

What do you guys think about dt 990 premium 250 ohm with the schitt stack? I would be listening to metal on them, mainly melodeath and doom. My current cheap cans are flat as fuck and have no bass whatsoever, like i cant even hear tje the bass guitar and drums have no impact to them. I have better listening experience on my 5 dollae earbuds even.

From the research I've done so far i think dt 990s would have the perfect ammount of bass for me what do you think? Btw i dont want closed cans
>>
>>53717743
DT880 or Fidelio X2's.

The DT990 has ear piercing treble
>>
>>53717782

i own a akg 240 mk ii. At first i thought they didnt have bass but actually they have. The bad kind of bass. I dont know, it just ruins the songs when the volume is 50%+. i want something that doesnt make the music awful when the song is at least 70%. I kinda like how they're neutral but if i cant reach this without having this "boomy" bass i dont mind having something less neutral

>>
>>53718114
does this have a decent bass or it solves my problem with not having any bass? thanks for the help
>>
>>53718056
HD 558 (open) might be the best option, they're recommended for people that don't want much bass and neutral balance.

Or you could go with >>53718114 if you want something closed.

About the HD 558, I bought them after asking advice here for neutral headphones, but they're yet to come (fucking correios and its alfândega).

And care to give some examples of "options"? Everything on MercadoLivre is fucking overpriced and regular stores just have shit headsets and even more overpriced than MercadoLivre (Kabum has the HD 558 for 1050 BRL, while MercadoLivre is 850 BRL).
>>

>>53718239
yeah its overpriced but when you do some math on dollar value plus if you get the import taxes the hd558 will be ~700BRL. I'm lazy so I'd rather pay 150BRL more than to deal with our shitty postal plus having my shipment stuck in Curitiba god knows how long. You're the guy that told me about htforum, if I'm not mistaken you used shipito right? how much was the value that you estimated on your package? something around 50 dollars?

>>

shit's well made & sounds good, if you can deal with the extra wire tangle, get it
>>
>>53718445
I'm the anon who used Shipito, but the one who told you about htforum is a different anon.

Airmail Economy 12.45$ (cheapest way of shipping that Shipito has) + 2$ fee + 4.65$ of insurance. The problem with Airmail Economy is there is no tracking unless you're lucky enough (which I was) to the courier issue a tracking for your package.

About the value, well, we (the costumers) are the ones responsible to fill the customs declaration, so I put 45$ for the package and that it was a gift. But I still don't know if I'm going to pay taxes or not (hopefully not).

>>
>>53718466
This is me here: >>53718879

I had the HD668-Bs until last week. Bout two years, maybe a touch less. They were amazing headphones, especially for the price. Through some AKG velour pads on them and they're great, but there are some pain points if you're not considering the price.

Firstly, the bands that actually hold the phones together are quite small, and they touched my head the entire stretch through, their version of the Audio-Technica 3D wings did nothing. The plastic around the bands was cracking, and one of the phones was a little loose in it's cup/hinge.

If you're never going to spend over $100 on a pair of headphones, just stick with the HD668-Bs and replace them when necessary. If you're wanting to stick with a headphone that is basically a better HD668-B and you can stomach a price over $100, get the DT990 Pros.

if you go with beyers or sennheisers you eliminate one of those flaws (and avoid the 2khz bump altogether). they're probably the most common recommendations for open headphones in that price range. K7XX are probably the least offensive AKG headphones which could also be a consideration if they go up for sale and you like the fit of the shape they use. there's also those t50rp mk3s that people seem to be raving about but as i haven't heard them i can't recommend them.

yes, you can remove some foam behind the driver to make them more like the hd598, but it also drops the bass level down as well, best to experiment. at the $100 price point they're a really good value imo. can be thought of as a 'almost there but not quite' hd600.

also for the reason above i'd recommend avoiding the hd598.

-Frequency response and impulse response contain the same information. The usual magnitude chart is only a part of what can be considered the frequency response.
-The magnitude response by itself is still the central factor in what makes a headphone "good".
-Amplifiers and digital-analog converters are different things with different, specific functions.
-You can only hope that the a measurement sample is generalizable to all models.
-You have to assume that measurement gear represents a realistic use. Proper proportions are extremely critical and difficult to achieve with acoustic measurements.
-Octave smoothing is concealing of in-depth information. It destroys fine detail about the sound timbre.
-At the same time, a parametric equalizer allows for extreme control of the magnitude response, whatever the headphone is. Equalization can be applied upon any system for a more desirable response.
-Waterfall charts don't provide useful information. Neither do square waves. Skip them.

Is it the square waves that decide how much detail and clarity a headphone will have? There's also the bass thing, but how bad/exaggerated could "no bass" really be with headphones? I can understand not hearing the bass on earphones, but on any decent headphone?

I'm trying to figure out which qualities it is that let me hear more subtle details on my K702s than on something shitty like the M30X.

man, I wanted to get the HD600 but I can't get over that horrendous build quality. They seem to be pretty flat though, at least I'll have some flavour to choose from with the K702s I got instead

I ended up getting the K702s instead just because I wanted my first set of $200+ headphones to actually last. At least I'll have some flavour to choose from when I get another headphone as flat as the HD600.

What are the odds that the HD600 will get a revision with better build quality?
>>
>>53723689
Telephone frequency range repeatability is not a problem any measurement jig ever had with a competent headphone.
The errors blow up above 7-8 kHz from pinna issues.

>>53723732
It isn't that flat, nor is it that poorly built. The flatness is not an important parameter.

>>
>>53723732
>What are the odds that the HD600 will get a revision with better build quality?
Sennheiser tend to do little updates here and there without making a big deal out of revisions. Their drivers for the HD600 have changed countless times over the years with little improvements here and there and apparently the plastic used for the headphone itself has been reinforced, but don't quote me on that.
>>
>>53723810
But they aren't neutral, that was the point made by >>53723578 and myself. The lacking bass is a coloration, the increased treble is a coloration and the AKG bump at 2kHz is a major coloration.

Air is generally attributed to frequencies above 9kHz. the 2kHz bump in AKG headphones gives vocals a metallic sound, IME.
>>
>>53723578
