Considering I'll only use my phone for texting, gps and clover/reddit :
1. How beneficial is a 1080p screen over a 720p one?

2. Are chinese phones reliable/fast on their gps? Particularly Lenovo K3 as it is the chinese one I'm interested in.

3. Is CPU speed really that important? I mean, is there any noticeable change in say using a browser or quick texting? I feel like it's only relevant for games, I might be wrong.

4. What should I pay attention to on the camera specs? I know the MP are not enough to make decent comparisons, I just don't know exactly what else to consider.

5. Lenovo K3, LG G3s, LG Spirit 4G, LG G4c. Considering responsiveness, gps and camera, which one should I pick?

Look at the Samsung Galaxy S5 neo, Samsung Alpha and the Moto X Play.

Samsung Flex 2 is about as good as the G3 for only 240€, so if you are set on LG this can save you some cash.

The G3 is still a very good choice though, and QuadHD is great, although the display is not that great apart from the resolution apparently

Was looking at Zenfone 2 but I'm hesitant because of the shitload of pre-installed apps.

Preloaded apps can be removed easily, it's not like touchjizz where they're super integrated into the OS and slow everything down

What competes with Moto G 2015 around the same budget?
>>

>>51867124
I actually bought a Zenfone 2 because /g/ sold me on it. It was awful, bloat as far as the eye can see, along with a bunch of other minor issues that added up to me wanting to sell it (physical buttons i kept hitting by accident, dim screen that was too bright in darkness, screen waking in my pocket and trying to use the emergency dialer, etc). Also it was awkward in size (too big). Luckily I found a buyer (sucker) who paid almost full price for it.

Bought the 5X and couldn't be happier. I can't believe how much better stock Android is compared to Asus' bloat (which includes CleanMaster app functionality built into the ROM). I know you can unlock the bootloader of the ZF2, but the only option is a fairly buggy version of CM12.1 right now.
>>
is there any difference between Moto G and Moto E? ive been using a Moto G for the past 2-3 years and its been at least adequate for me but the battery just died so im in the market for a new phone. im still trying to get like the cheapest option available (so pretty much another Moto G), but Moto Es are in my price range as well.

It's actually not a bad phone overall, especially from a hardware perspective for the price you pay.

However, Windows Phone is really terrible. It has 1GB of RAM but 8.1 is very aggressive about closing background apps, so you'll see lots of apps reloading and quite a few "Resuming..." screens. Even if you switch from one app to another and back, it'll likely have to reload. Really annoying with Readit (reddit client) since it takes like 10 seconds for it to load from the main screen to where you left off.

Also one thing to note is that apps on WP are few and far between, and the ones that exist are usually shit and haven't been updated in ages. Even the default apps are pretty terrible, especially since 8.1 has been abandoned essentially in the wake of 10.

I didn't get around to installing W10M on the 640, so maybe it fixes some of the issues. Still you're not going to get any apps - my bank has a WP "app" but it's really just a web wrapper and very barebones compared to the iOS/Android version.

The good part is that WP has decent performance on low end hardware, besides the "Resuming..." screens it is pretty fast and fluid (although this might just be animations covering short loading screens). The 640 in particular gets excellent battery life - I got 3 days on a charge a couple times but that might be simply from not using it much since WP is so cumbersome. It's very limiting because you can't do very much since there are no apps.

>>
>>51868923
Some of that is on app developer's fault. There's 3 states for an app. When it's the active one, when it's still in memory but not on screen, and when it's been unloaded from memory. Some apps don't check whether it's in the second or third state and just assume it needs to reload everything anyways or something.

6p is definitely better, but I have the x pure and it is perfect. It can easily get through a day with around 3 hours SoT. More than that isn't very consistent however.

Both the front and back cameras are pretty good, not the best but still better than my expectations. The phone doesn't lag at all, it is easily rootable and has a huge developer scene on xda. On top of that it will reliably get software updates for the next 2 or 3 years.

U haven't played any games on it, so I can't tell you how the phone reacts under heavy stress, but for everyday use it's fine. If you don't plan on using moto display you can even lower the resolution to fhd instead of qhd which saves a lot of battery.

LG Flex 2 at 240€

The Sony and the LG have good cameras, and the LG has excellent specs, would have been a flagship last year. I does have a curved screen though, so that will not the to everyone's liking. The Sony is also waterproof, if you care about that. All three of these phones support sd cards

Any suggestions on what to replace my Oneplus One with? I dropped it on the floor and destroyed the touchscreen so I'll need a new one soon.

I was pretty happy with it, so anything similar would be good and budget won't matter as I'll expense it to my company anyways. Dual-sim would be a plus as I travel a lot on business.

Sony Z5 compact or Z3 compact as a cheaper alternative are just a little larger than the iPhone 4. The HTC one m9 is good but larger than these. The normal Z5 would be a good alternative, being just larger than the HTC but with a waterproof, very premium design. The Samsung S5 would be a cheaper alternative at about the HTC's size. All of those phones have an sd card slot. If you could do without the sd card slot the Samsung S6 or S6 edge would also be alternatives, you can get them in 128 and 64gb respectively.

Z3, yes or no?

It's currently like £18 more expensive than the Z2, and from reviews it sounds like all it really did was plug the issues with the Z2, so I'm not too fussed about spending the extra £18.

I'm not planning on waiting around and buying the Z4 on launch, I'm just looking for a partially future-proof, good phone that won't lag, stutter and has a good camera, both front and back.

>>51869356

>>51869421

I bit the bullet last week and got the One M8 (the silver version). I found a great deal at 380 Eur.

I'm going to skip the usual crap that you can find in reviews and talk about the user experience.

It's big. The screen is just 5'' but the bezels + the stereo speakers make it a long phone. If you have at least medium sized hands you will do fine. The power button is at the top so if you have short fingers you'll have to shimmy the device to turn off the screen

It's very very well made. At least it feels that way. It's cut perfectly and it's looks really sleek and clean. So if style is your thing it's very clean cut/business looking. Especially the gunmetal grey one. It's definitely it's strong point and the reason I went for it. There's very few other Androids that can rival it in this department. maybe Sony's Xperia line but that glass back is a smudge collector.

Htc Sense is lighter than it looks. I got it off contract so there's very little bloatware beyond 2-3 HTC apps that are actually usefull. It's quick. I've never experienced any lag or hitching at all.

The back and sides are INCREDIBLY prone to scratches. The aluminium looks great but unlike plastic it dings. I'm not talking about it scratching when you hit it with a pointy hard object. It gets little hairline scratches from just sitting on a hard surface. Put a silicone/TPU/Foil on it as soon as you take it out of the box unless you want it to look like the sharp part of a knife allover.

The cameras are meh but I don't really take many pictures. I'd buy a phone without cameras if they still made them.

The sound quality is fantastic. The speakers are great but I don't see where that would be a boon. Noone really plays music/video on the phone's speakers. The boomsound option is very bassy and adds a lot of distortion to the sound.

Call quality is top notch. Especially if your service provides has some sort of HD sound/wider frequency bandwith option.

I'm really appreciating the monthly software updates from Blackberry.

Each update has definitely improved the phone.

Also the screen is awesome. Once you disable the adaptive display setting it comes alive.

I'm at 30% brightness indoors and it's vivid as fuck.

Lenovo sounds like a good brand due to their PCs and K3's VibeUI 3.0 looks awesome, not to mention Marshmallow support having been confirmed.

Note 3 isn't much better than note2, it has a metal housing, slightly larger battery and fingerprint scanner I think, but it has no microSD or removable battery, pretty much everything else is the same so it depends on what you want. I think all three of those phones are getting marshmallow too.

From what I've read:
- Complaints about having a weak screen, can probably be fixed with tempered glass over it or something
-Complaints about very low WiFi reception, a few meters from router and signal is lost
-Good custom ROM available on XDA

If those issues don't seem troublesome to you (and they shouldn't be at 125$), I guess it'd be a good buy. A little more and you could probably get a Redmi Note 2 though.

About to order unlocked Moto X pure off of eBay,

Yes or no?

Does anybody here have experience with the moto X pure?
>>
>>51887838
Ok, so from my experience there really isn't a huge difference in music quality between phones if you don't care about speakers. Just get a music player like shuttle or poweramp and they'll let you customize all your music to however you want it to sound.

Maybe the xperia z5/z3 compact? They might be a bit out of your price range but your size requirement is pretty limiting. Sony also has decent software when compared to other OEM's, so you shouldn't have much trouble with software.

Alright thanks for your time. I'll look through the spreadsheet again and prioritize Sony stuff this time around.
>>
>>51888033
There is no fingerprint scanner, so if that's important to you that's a con I guess.

Camera is not the best, but it's definitely one of the better ones. It's fast and takes pretty detailed pictures. I can try uploading some sample for you if you really want.

As for speed I did notice some lag in system animations when I took it out of the box (not actual lag in apps or multitasking, just animations.) I rooted and installed a slightly modified/debloated stock based ROM, and the phone is blazing fast now.

A lot of people have been complaining about battery life, but it seems fine to me. I'm a pretty light user myself, but it will easily get you through a day with 2 or three hours of screen on time.

Moto display is also a nice touch, although it does get a bit annoying if you need to be holding your phone as it activates very easily.

It's not perfect, but it's definitely worth the money.
>>
I'm looking to replace a 2013 Moto X on T-Mobile US.

Sadly it seems to me that nothing quite like it exists in the current market. What I would like out of an ideal replacement is:

>AMOLED display
>~4.7" up to about 5.2", 1080p+
>near stock Android M
>and/or unlockable bootloader
>strongly prefer no hardware buttons

What does /g/ think I should get?

I'm strongly considering a Moto X 2014, but the SoC seems a bit dated. I'd feel right at home though with Moto's ROM.

The Nexus 5X looks great to me, though it'd be a bit large for me, and it has an LCD screen.

The Sony Z5 Compact really caught my attention, but it's 720p, LCD, and needs to be imported.

I'm also thinking about trying to buy a OnePlus X, but I've never used a OnePlus phone in the wild and have no idea what to expect.

What does /g/ think?
>>
>>51888170
Go for the Oneplus. I've only used the Oneplus One a little bit since one of my friend's has it, but it's a pretty solid phone. The OS it runs is also very bloat free and close to stock android, so you shouldn't have any problems there.
>>
>>51869676
The Moto G 3rd gen gets about twice as much screen on time while browsing on LTE. Stand by time is better as well. More efficient processor and that, but its a lot slower so that's a bigger part of it.

I had the Nexus 5, loved it but that screen time was so bad. I'd get maybe 1.5 to 2 hours at most with a modded kernel and a bunch of power saving mods (even got pissed off with the mods and tried full stock again, same deal). The nexus 5 has Qi charging and NFC if that means anything to you though. I'm on a G 3rd gen and I'm happy with it. Just wish it had a notification light, ambient display and moto display kinda kill the battery and just randomly light the screen up a lot.

Was also looking at project Fi.

Thoughts?"
