I absolutely agree that divination can be.... eh, overdosed? I only do a big spread for myself on the summer solstice. Three to six card readings every few months unless I'm going through major shit and even then I limit it to twice a week.
On a daily basis I just work with synchronicity/omens
I don't really enjoy doing readings here any more than I liked putting together the bags of goods at the food pantry. By that I mean the task itself sucks but the rewards are great.
I try not to read for querents who seem addicted. Asking for readings on the same matter too often, or asking for multiple readings on different things. And I try to avoid people who take readings way too seriously, too. This is a game, the future is always tenuous/open

Maybe you're being idealistic. You should praise him and boost his self confidence if you want to move on from this rut. You're having trouble with this though, aren't you? Well there is your problem. It's not the quality, but it is the originality of the posts. It's a subjective preference that makes you believe that, when absent, the whole board is deteriorating into nothing.
Perhaps having an open mind to things can make things seem less... unoriginal? I mean open minded in that you genuinely hold all preconceived notions and ideas about any topic and you investigate it personally and honestly.
