anyone who know music theory care to tell me or show me something that will tell me how chords interact with the melody? ive never been able to figure out how to use chords in tandem with a melody without it sounding like complete horseshit.

Basically, unless you're actively looking for dissonance (ie bebop or avant-garde jazz stuff), all the notes in a chord (2 in a fifth, 3 in a major/minor/diminished/augmented, 4 in a 6th and 7th, 5 in a 9th, 6 in an 11th and a 13th. When you play, say, a major on a guitar, you're playing the same note in a higher eight, 2 or 3 times) are to be found in the same scale that the melody is using. That creates harmony.

Hey guys, I need some help with my college textbooks
For the last three years I've been using a Masterpost on reddit with several links to different online textbook pdfs and torrents and such, but recently I'm told that all the links have died and I have no means to get my textbooks online for free anymore. This is a serious financial cripple for me, and although I can buy them if need be, I'd rather lessen the burden on my Mom and myself by doing what I've always done.

Kind of a weird request, but I remember seeing a gif a while ago that was almost exactly like this picture, except Kimbra was another Gotye, and he had a really long animated tongue that was licking the original Gotye. Assuming you're not underage: If you're talking about college, many colleges have a deal with Microsoft allowing access to Office for free. I don't know the details though, have you tried contacting your college's IT people?
