So I have this old tv that I have no idea what to do with. It only picks up radio transmissions and static.
I was thinking of keeping it in case I ever pick up an Atari because it has the hooks in the back. So /vr/ what do you think I should do with it?
Here's a pic of the back with all the hooks.
Also CRT general. Let me see what your setups look like
Unless you plan on using RGB/component you may as well use that tv. Composite isn't any better than RF. Get an RF modulator if you don't have an RF unit.

I'd love to have that. Manual tuning and shit I am too young to have ever experienced.
>>3337409
Fucking Americans and your retarded connections. Why are Americans so far behind in TVs?
>>3337406
old tvs are cool except when they die and you have to fix them.
>>3337410
Quick question, how would an RF modulator work if I can't even connect a cable cord to the tv?
>>3337420
I didn't realise you were an American.
>>3337424
Are TVs composit everywhere else in the world?
>>3337427
In the 70s and 80s. But they also had proper RF. SCART was the go to in the 80s and 90s.
>>3337410
Composite is better than RF though. Both are still bad though.
>>3337464
They both have benefits and drawbacks.
Furthermore you probably are not going to want to use that tv for anything as it's black and white.
>>3337480
No delete that one, its infested with free 20faggot
>>3337484
B&W has a certain AESTHETIC to it though. I like playing games in b&w
>>3337489
you don't know from aesthetic
>>3337497
spherical
>>3337418
At least yiu can fix them.
New TVs are disposable internet-of-things shit.
>>3337412
that click noise is worth experiencing, anon.... it really is.
>>3337472
No. Composite is objectively better than RF in every way.
>>3337561
KA-CHUNK.... KA-CHUNK....
I dont want to necessarily go back..
But it's a great feeling.
>>3337420
You would need a 300 Ohm tho 75 Ohm transformer. They should be cheap and easy to find. Just hook it to the vhf terminals
>>3337618
>>3337561
If you want a real twilight zone experience get yourself a legitimate "clicker" remote control. No batteries required.
>>3337602
Hahahaha no. Composite has vastly inferior colour to RF. The only thing RF does worse is that it has more interferrence.
>>3337736
>Composite has vastly inferior colour to RF
RF from game consoles is a regular composite video signal and (in this case) mono audio modulated into a single signal that can be sent down a single cable.
The ONLY thing it has over composite+mono audio is that it only uses a single cable(2 conductors) rather than three minimum(cvid, mono audio, ground).
>>3337742
>RF from game consoles is a regular composite video signal
Don't embarrass yourself, tripfaggot.
>>3337492
i almost bought an mtv karaoke machine from a thrift store but once i saw that the crt display was black and white, it turned me off hardcore. but it did have a camera on it tho. your pic reminded me of it
>>3337746
These are from the SNES and Genesis respectively, but the same is going to go for just about any other console released in the past 30 years that features a dedicated RF output. Hell, for the N64 even moved the whole RF circuit outside of the system for the NUS-003 to just leach composite video and audio right off the MultiAV like a regular AV cable
It's just standard composite Video + Mono audio as the baseband, modulated into an RF signal to be transmitted.
Nothing outside of standalone RF modulators are going to use anything other than composite as their baseband, and even the ones who do accept higher quality signals are liable to just encode that INTO composite for modulation.
>>3337773
What the fuck is a Genesis?
RF still looks better.
>>>/diy/1018449
i have an issue on diy and im not posting it again on here
>>3339196
i fixed the problem: i used another power cord
rip lol. idk why it even worked, the adapter it came with, and the one that works with, are the same voltage.
>>3337785
In that picture the RF one seems to be slightly brighter but it's also stretched slightly and the text is blurred somewhat.
Not vidya, but I tried to connect an RF cable to a CRT and got a very weak signal without it making physical contact. Is this normal?
>>3339406
RF = Radio Frequency. The coax cable is just an antenna, it performs most optimally when it's screwed in but it can function even when it's not.
>>3339414
Thanks for removing your trip, friend.
>>3337489
I do too. Pic related.
>>3337736
>Composite has vastly inferior colour to RF.
Legitimately curious, are these cables PAL only? Because that's what I use for RF on any TV set, no matter how old.
>>3339596
If they don't have an RF switch or modulator in them they can be used for anything anywhere
>>3339596
NTSC Coax plugs have a smaller center pin, otherwise they are electrically the same. Which is to say they are shielded cables for carrying RF.
