I feel like, especially in grasslands, you can have some solid stretches of rather sparse actual pathing. A landmark or two just short of the render distance.
In a heavy forest you could just follow the path cut through the trees. Of course, we do need a forest maze as well.
I just really don't want to see solid roads 100% of the time.
