I think the reason they got away with this stuff is because the frames of animation move fast while the show is airing at normal speed, its only when people take screenshots that this is noticeable.
Most of the stuff people have in screenshots here are literally shot for 1 split second on-screen, so if you don't pause it at the right moment you won't notice it.

I don't see them passing up the opportunity on having a Charizard Y vs Charizard X battle
Greninjash vs Charizard X feels weird because Ash is more experienced AND has the type advantage. Greninjash vs Mega Sceptile works because grass (youth) vs water (experience) both counterbalance one another.
Greninjash is being established to be equal to a mega so losing to a mega is no longer an excuse. Alan beating Ash in that situation just feels weird because Ash has all the advantage on paper. If Ash does beat Alan easily, then that's equally weird. X vs Y would also establish the themes they were trying to show already (opposite sides of a mirror, light darkness). Both fire types, both Charizards, just that they chose different paths. It could work with Greninjash too but on paper, it sounds off.

When you see 2 sides fighting and one guy is fire and the other is water, the water has the advantage. It has neutral dragon claw just like it did against Malva but that's not the impression people will get. Against Malva it was fire vs fire. Against Ash, it's fire vs water.

Yeah and the theme of that fight was fire vs water. Siebold had to use 2 dragon pulse to take it down because it just tanked the hydro pump. The underdog side looks better when it's overcoming odds like that and putting up a good fight despite all the advantages the enemy has. Siebold isn't just experienced, he's an elite 4 with the type advantage. Alan lost but it portrayed his potential.

If Dragon Claw is the only move Charizard can use, the dodge thing is the easiest strategy to implement since Alain's plays will become predictable. It didn't look slow at all when it was facing Charizard X before it Mega Evolved.
Face it, Malva and Houndoom could have taken down Alain and Charizard without going Mega because they already had the advantage.

even if Alain's attacks became repetitive nothing stops it from also working in steel wing into everything catching it off guard taking up high with him then drop him with an absurd dragon claw combo as that anon said if the writers felt that Alan had to win he would had regardless.

It was slower and weaker too. Malva will be seen as taking it easy for challenging a mega with a non-mega. It's a mini-series that focused on megas and how absurdly powerful they were in mega mode so it's unbelievable to think not going mega was the more serious option.

I don't want the full Team Rocket/Giovanni VS Team Flare. We got that in Unova and I don't want to risk XY's climax to be overburdened by villains.
