Well part of the Japanese title card does translate to "Serena and Ash's first date." everywhere I look while that end of the episode really pushed it into making special in the ways it did.

Misty would've been really forgettable if 4kids didn't pander to the young developing shippers in the west. It's been shown to be very different in the Japanese original season and a much more flat character. Not sure I can verify the same with May and Dawn though.
