Welcome back to Pokemon Rejuvenation! For those of you not following us, in the words of the creator himself:

So here we have a fangame made by this man, unsatisfied with Gamefreak's writing but finding himself drawn to a story of gender-neutrals, suicides, and lesbian suicides. I wonder how this will turn out?
Last time, we beat the obligatory lel so randum XD gym leader for our very first badge, and before that some drama ensued after we beat up a demon, no sorry, a DEMON Gyarados. The game even puts it in caps to emphasize it. But now we must follow the super special OC who magically makes shinies appear, is a gym leader in training, and was capable of making a snag machine out of 'spare parts', since she's being pursued.I hope I picked a better hour to start posting this time
And then for our rock smash field move, we have to beat up this gang leader.
She uses the good old 'merely a test team' response to losing a fight.

It's worth noting that the only way out of this city unless you want to go to the docks is by train, which costs money every time you want to go through.
And money is very precious in this game, considering how much you'll be needing healing items and Poke balls to enlist whatever scraps the dev is allowing you to have.
We don't exactly have a lot of good Pokemon. Not even decent early game pokemon like Starly.

It used to be a dumber description when dark type attackers were suppressed, but I guess the creator eventually realised Dark type is not literal lack of light: the type.

* Psychic type attacks gain a 1.5x boost in power.
* Fairy Type attacks gain a 1.3x boost in power
* Dark Type attacks get a decrease in strength by 0.5x
The following moves gets a boost in their effect:
Calm Mind, Cosmic Power
* The following moves gain a 1.2 boost in power and gains a Psychic subtype
Ancient Power, Dragon Pulse, Water Pulse, Strength
* Heal Pulse heals more HP.
Nearly all of them are advantages only she would be able to use at this level.

Still no sign of our mother. For those who didn't follow us from the beginning, the game opened with a ship sinking with no survivors, except for us when we escaped and when our mother got kidnapped by these guys.

We meet up with Ren, one of our rivals. We're both here looking for Melia, the super special shiny-attracting my leader tech genius donut steel. He decides to go off chasing Galvantulas instead.
And since Galvantula and Joltik aren't shitmons, despite them being right here we can't catch them. Thank you, Jan.
You'll sometimes come across these things. They heal you, and then are deactivated. They're most useful as warnings of upcoming boss fights, at least.
And we run into this guy with the stupid name, the same guy we beat up at the lake earlier when he tried to sic the DEMON Gyarados on us.

This is because of the common "fact"thing about Dark type. Also because of him not doing fucking research.
How many Dark type moves can be accounted to use Darkness? Dark Pulse? Night Daze? Dark Void? That's three.
Most of Dark-type moves relies on deception, and when people are thinking 'eh mah gerd darkness is absorbed by light' fits Shadow type. Fuck, Shadow type IS Dark type in Japan (Dark is Evil).
Inside, you have to talk to the strange grey Joltik around. Naturally, none of them can be captured, like how the fucking Magikarp from earlier also weren't available despite being literally in front of you.

For some reason, in this 'holy' field where 'Arceus's light' shines, you find Dunsparce.

Anyway, his soul tells us to smack him up. Will do.
And there's a strange inscription on the Arceus statues. Something about lost souls being returned here.
Then he tells us to just keep the thing holding his soul since he doesn't need it. Alright, sure, I'll just make it my new paperweight or something.
I'm not sure why he puts Battle Arena in quotation marks. You can almost imagine him doing it in a Dr Evil fashion.
Everyone in the village is gathered for our fight, it looks like.
To solve his problems, he tells us to beat him up. We'll do that, sure.
Sensei Keta. He looks like he's seen some shit.
We're fighting in a forest field. From the readme:

With the Hawlucha crippled, I send out a Hariyama I evovled from a Makuhita around here.
Now, Hariyama learns Belly Drum at just level 26. I decide to go for that to hopefully sweep his whole team. Also, he has a shiny Lucario just to look more special.
Of course, I'm reminded how much of a shitmon Hariyama is when Machoke outspeeds and KOs. Hariyama has high HP, but fuckall defenses.

I burned the Machoke, assuming it was No Guard. The Rock Slide it used missed when I sent out Rosa, so I had to kill it ASAP instead of setting up.
Roselia or another decent Grass type can take advantage of the field to sweep him pretty easily, especially with a move like Mega or Giga drain so you can heal at the same time. The rest of the fight is smooth.

Time for some sidequests.
If we go back to Gearen, we can take super special OC's exp share. Very useful to siphon exp away from Pokemon about to hit the level cap. She won't be needing it now, anyway.
One sidequest involves fighting a gang of Growlithe.
As you approach them, somebody conveniently drops a fire stone right in front of them. Thanks a lot, you fucking asshole.
You get a Growlithe for doing this quest, at least. Useful, but I won't include it as a permanent team member. We already used one in Reborn, let's do things different.

We follow that sensei under the waterfall, and suddenly there's a volcanic cave out of nowhere. Apparently it's not supposed to be one.
This girl's name is Aelita. Yet another purple haired girl. She was the one trying to make the sensei stop being a bitch. She teams up for a tag segment, which is very useful for grinding Pokemon.

There's this weird thing in the cavern that seems to be some kind of security device.

This is the dialogue that shows if you say no. You can just talk to it again to take it.
So it seems they've been actively turning the mountain into a volcano for some reason. Keta mentions a 'Madame X', which seems to be a very high-ranking member of the evil organization.
For some reason, Madelis, the admin we're trying to fight, hid a key here like she expected us to just shut it off.
If you see a heal/PC in a dungeon, you jolly well use it. It's a boos warning.
With all four keys, we go off to face Madelis herself. This camgirl was first seen in a video call with the professor who turned out to be working for her.
Whoops, looks like Keta wanted to sacrifice his whole village, and now Aelita gets to hear it.

Originally, this fight was meant to be unwinnable as the Mewtwo was level 70, though I won using my Murkrow and Cottonee. Those Pokemon have since been cut for being useful Pokemon.
At level 25, it's still a beast that teamwipes me, sicne Shadow moves are super effective against everything. I can't remember if losing to it still continues the story or not, but it doesn't matter. I'm going to beat it.

In this game, shadow moves are actually resisted by fairies, and seem to be neutral against other shadow Pokemon, who possess a separate shadow type now.
Clefairy has okay bulk and fairy type, but more importantly, some very important moves.

Mewtwo's Shadow Bolt paralyses Gaga, but it doesn't do much resisted. Good enough.
Mewtwo for some reason has the signature moves of the 4 legendary shadow Pokemon in XD: Gale of Darkness. Shadow Chill, Bolt, Fire and Blast for Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres Lugia respectively.
Now, Clefairy has two very important moves at this level. Minimize, and Stored Power.
We max out our evasion as Mewtwo enters Hyper Mode. Shadow Pokemon have a chance of being afflicted by this, which causes them to get damaged every turn. We just boost our evasion and wait for it to kill itself, before blowing a stored power to finish it off.

Even though we watched it kill itself, it's still standing. Bah.
Keta suddenly gets up and tries to fight it with his bare hands. Never mind his Pokemon, or anything. Then again, he is a mono-fighting trainer, so he's screwed either way.
We're told that we need to get behind and shut off her generator for the whole lab to be shut down, while he's busy staring mewtwo down.
Camgirl suddenly joins as as we're wondering what this thing is. It's a Volcanion she turned into some kind of generator.

The Gothitelle teleports us away, but it starts laughing. Looks like it's done something.
The scene cuts to what looks like a meeting of Team Xen executives. Xen seems like such a horribly bland name, by the way, like Jan just stuck a cool-looking word at the back end of team.

We get a badge with a pretty dumb name, and instead of his decent move, a fighting type version of Fury Cutter. Never mind that the best fighting types to use a move like this, bulky ones like Timburr, are completely unavailable.

Short diversion for a sidequest. A talking keckleon here runs a shop, selling basic items. There is no explanation given for why keckleon is running a shop. I know it's a reference to Mystery Dungeon, but this is what we call breaking immersion.
The sidequest involves having to acquire one of these items from the keckleon. We can either buy it for a whopping 50000P, or steal it. This grunt tries to steal it first, and gets fucked up as a warning.

Steal, and you get teleported to a random position in this dungeon. You need to make it to any one of the stairs, but there will be keckleon rushing about, and if one sees you you have to fight it.
They are level 100.
You can see what happened to the grunt below. Fortunately, we just get brought back to before we steal the item if we white out here. Eventually I got lucky and spawned near the stairs.
If you steal it, the guy gives you an extra reward of ice cream.

First step in a sidequest for everyone's favourite Pokemon multiplier. You have to talk to this guy's girlfriend, and she'll ask you to find him in the cave. Do that and he'll reward you with a movie. The ditto, feeling inspired, goes off, and you can chase it across the region.

I used my duskull and spammed will-o-wisp. the AI will keep trying to use sucker punch, which fails if you're not using an attacking move and is bugged in Pokemon Essentials anyway, the sort of engine this is running on.
only works for one keckleon, though, since once it runs out of the 5 sucker punch pps it will just kill everything. Don't get caught.

We run into this... character. He hasn't noticed us yet, but we'll meet him later.
Despite the creator's... obvious flaws, there is one thing he is pretty good at. The optional areas.
They feel like very refreshing changes of pace from the rest of the game, and are pretty comfy. Here, we're in a forest, looking for a small town on the other side.

A piece of the Kingdra is missing, carried downwards by the river. You can find it washed up at the purification shrine, if you walk around until you step on the correct tile.
We fight this kingdra statue to proceed. It spams surf, which is weakened in this forest area, so despite high level, not even seeds and spores were necessary to beat it.
A research station, and apparently a bell that used to be in the other village.
You can buy oran berries en masse back in the city and bring them to the Miltank here for cheap 100 HP restoring items. Very useful, but that's not why we're here.
This is why, to acquire our next permanent team member.
To awaken the zubat here, you'll need flash. The TM for it can be bought in the casino all the way back in the city. Do that, and you'll have to fight a horde of bats.
Defeat them, and you'll get your zubat. Despite what their usual rarity might imply, Zubat is anything but a shitmon, oh no. Crobat is a beast.

But that's not the zubat we'll be using. Crobat's speed makes it very good for spreading disabling status. Have a Hoothoot sire a child with a Zubat female, and you can have a Zubat that knows Hypnosis.
