What were the past ninja-themed episodes in the anime? I can think of the ep Brock got Bonsly in Battle Frontier, that was a whole ninja themed village and we saw Jessie as a ninja.
There's also the Koga and Aya episodes in Kanto and Johto.

If we had eight SME specials instead of four, some of these writing holes could have been easily avoided. I still rank SME Act IV as one of my favorites in XY just considering it by itself, but in context there are some plot elements and character traits that just felt rushed or never fully fleshed out.

What "danger"? It's never elaborated on. If anything, Alan behaving the way he did indirectly caused her Hari-san to get into danger.
I also don't see why "protecting Manon" from some nebulous threat requires him becoming "the strongest".

The drama with Hari-san and Manon's emotional outpouring really hit a note with me, as did the poignant ending scene with Alan telling Manon "Wait for me!" and pledging that he would enable her to once again show her smile. That's the main reason why Act IV was my favorite of the mega specials. I wish some of the time in the other mega specials could have been spent further developing the "protect" stuff. Or there could have been a couple of more mega specials.

You seem really confused.
The goal isn't to protect her from a specific thing, it's to be strong enough to protect her when he needs to. He wasn't strong enough against Ray and Groudon (while Steven was). This is on top of his goal of helping Lysandre achieve his plans for "world peace."

I would swallow it if Alan had some backstory about not being able to protect his loved ones as a kid like in several stories but Alan hasn't faced a danger any different to Ash or other character.
Alan desire to protect his friend makes sense but why he acts like that over other characters who face similar danger doesn't. His paranoia is never explained.

Remember that Mega Charizard Y was in the calendar leak, which predates the XYZ reveal, along with Noivern and Sylveon. Noivern and Sylveon have been teased a lot recently, so it's only a matter of time until they do the same for Charizard Y.
The biggest question is how soon will we see the second version of the current opening? How will Charizard, Mudkip, Sylveon, and Noivern fit into it? My guess is that the scene where Greninja walks away from Ash will be replace by an Ash/Alain scene that foreshadows the Charizard showdown. Reason why that scene will be replaced is because Ash and Greninja would be in perfect sync by then, so there wouldn't be any problems in their relationship. The Greninja vs Sceptile scene should be kept since the rivalry with Shota is just as important as the one with Alain. Also, Shota doesn't even have Mega Sceptile yet.

As the other Anon said, it picks up during the Myotismon arc. However, that arc has a major problem with evolution scenes. There's even an episode where the all of the Digimon evolve into their champion forms and then into their Ultimate stages ONE BY ONE. You could tell that the director was padding just to make the episodes longer. In the last few episodes of the Myotismon arc, they actually just evolve their mons all at once rather than one by one like in Tamers.
Also, skip 02 and just watch Tamers. If you really want to see 02, just watch the "World Tour" arc and make sure you watch the Japanese sub. These episodes have the greatest Engrish in the entire world.
