The Goodra's farewell was a significant change, it changed Ash's team from Vegeta level to Yamcha level. We also lost the second best pokemon character in the 18 years of anime.

Bringing up the discussion from before, Alan is thinking of the future. His conversation with Lysandre was basically Lysandre filling his head with potential dangers in the future: people who abuse mega evolution and people who would harm Sycamore because of his research. Lysandre implanted the idea that if you want to have a happy future with others, then you have to be strong enough to protect them when the time comes down to it since the world is a dangerous place. This isn't actually wrong but it is ironic because Lysandre is the one who actually abuses mega evolution and the most dangerous person in Kalos.
Lysandre also said it after he kicked Alan's newbie ass since Alan was just starting on his journey which made Alan desperate to grow strong as fast as possible. Lysandre also isolated Alan from people that can set him straight by implanting the idea that he shouldn't place others in danger. It's because of that desperation and isolation that Alan is rushing to become as strong as fast as possible without anyone able to help him. So now we have Alan obsessed with becoming strong as fast as possible without any regard for himself. For him, it's fine if he's in danger as long as no one else is.
This brings us to Manon who gets attached to Alan. She doesn't want him to hurt himself even if she has to risk her life. This is in direct conflict with Alan's belief. The 2 of them are both thinking that "it's fine if I'm in danger as long as others are safe." I'm sure you can see how ironic it is. They fight because of their irreconcilable belief.
It's like how Touma is willing to die but doesn't want Mikoto to get involved because it's dangerous and how Mikoto wants to help Touma even if it means placing herself in danger. 2 self-sacrificing people won't see eye to eye unless they compromise.

In addition, it's like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Alan's obsession to become stronger makes him rush things and gets him involved in dangerous situations. You normally won't fight elite 4s, champions or legendaries as a relatively new trainer. Hell, you normally won't fight them even as an older trainer.
You won't be involved in situations that can wipe out an entire region. Normally, those things are for veterans like Steven to handle. Alan gets himself involved in those and thinks he's weak because he can't solve those issues that put people in danger which makes him even more desperate to grow stronger. This is why when Lysandre asks him what his goal is at the end of Act 3, he said he still wanted to become stronger after remembering his defeat from Mega Ray and Primal Groudon.
You can make the case that it's actually a noble cause to sacrifice yourself and try to stop an event that can destroy a region but we have to understand that Alan just started his journey. He's still a kid. His goal of wanting to save people from a danger that even a Champion like Steven is afraid of is insane.
On the plus side, Alan did become much stronger and very quickly too. He can actually put up a good fight against an E4s mega even though he's relatively new. The downside is, he's sacrificing his own well-being for such a quick growth.

I always figured Dawn was the most traditional Asian looking heroine, hence her popularity in Japan. She has long straight dark hair, she has smaller breasts and a thing frame like most Asian girls, and her short skirt gives her a Japanese schoolgirl look.
May on the other hand was a brunette with tomboyish style clothing and huge breasts, given her a more western look. May looked like a white girl traveling throughout Japan. Serena of course is French with the blonde hair and blue eyes, and being a Kalos native.
