Here's some advice for you. You're going to get to a dungeon where at the end you'll fight a Legendary and 3 other Pokemon. Do not use a save pad between the checkpoint and boss, and make sure you have enough items to help you. I wound up getting so fucked in an unwinnable situation since at that current point the game wouldn't let me level up so I couldn't grind to get better. Had to reset the entire game.

I have a chance to get this for cheap, but I'm not sure if it's worth it now, especially when I'm still going through Yo-Kai Watch after a week of playing. I didn't feel as sad as in the other games. I think the only scene that really got me was when my partner saidhe couldn't stand going to check on Carracosta, being turned to stone and all.

It's a solid 7/10 for pokemon fans, 6/10 for non pokemon fans. If the leveling wasn't such hot garbage it'd be better. You start at level 5 and by the time you beat the final boss you'll be level 30 or below.
VERY little epilogue story too, it's not like sky where you get another 5+ hours worth, you'll be lucky to get an hour out of it.

If you want something much more roguelike, this game is for you. If you want something driven more by the pokemon series, then you should stick to Sky.
The game's recruitment and rescue system is really weird and there's a lot less of the sensation you got in the other games where you really felt like a part of a pokemon community.
Much better gameplay though, its easier to use more of your moves so putting together strategies is easier and your partner's AI is smarter in Super.
There are things called Emera's which make every single rescue mission vary in someway as they resemble the temporary items in game like The Binding of Isaac.
Art direction is lacking GREATLY though. Where in the 2D games, the game assets resembled the cozy water color illustrations, this game doesn't do that at all.
The 3D doesn't look bad, but it lacks style and character to a great extent.

I can agree that one Pokemon's moveset can be better than another's by offering variety but in the end people are going to just go with their favorite mon.
If a pokemon is shitty that adds to the game imo. It forces the player to come up with weird work arounds and use lots of items, making the exploration of each floor really important.
Its a lot like the way playing with a weak weapon in dark souls makes the game 100 times more interesting because of the upped difficulty and alternative strategies required to progress.

A lot of the core tweaks to the gameplay are great (certain IQ skills being made permanent, moves and stuff are easier to use and strategies, AI is improved), but the heavier emphasis on the roguelike elements is really what defines whether you're going to like it or not.
It really is kind of a love-it-or-hate-it game. Or a love-it-or-dislike-it game.

The game is throwing a bunch of off-continent quests at me while I am not even done the on-continent quests. Then a story mission will come and I have even more quests after that. I just got Mewas a partnerand his ability is so fucking good, it causes all status effects that you receive to be inflicted on nearby enemy pokemon. It has saved my ass so many times

So far the best I've found is Charizard from team ACT. Heat wave is fantastic for clearing rooms. I used him to recruit Rotom and OHKO'd 9/12 enemies and finished two more with a second hit. Only a Garbodor lived long enough to take a third hit.
I haven't used Salamence or Dragonite yet. Petilil isn't bad either. 60 Sp.Att on connection lets mega drain hit pretty hard. Too bad it gets nothing for coverage, but it can get Sunny day and I think it's Moonlight to heal your whole team.

I'd argue that the Souls games, while difficult, aren't nearly as cheap as this game. Given how much of the game is luck based, there's only so much of a fighting chance you can have. If it boosts anything, it boosts base power.
Base power means basically nothing in Sky. I tested moves with it on and off, and i actually hit for LESS with it on. Damage can vary by a lot when you're maxed out, so I concluded that it does nothing. Even in level 1 dungeons it won't help

Depends on the Pokemon. I have Chespin and there was a room recently where I got stuck with a Gavantula that signal beamed 1HKO it multiple times. Same for Razor Wind Heliolisk as mentioned.
