Well, the sun is full of heavy metals, so that makes sense, though it's a stretch.
Can't explain the Psychic part.
The Sun isn't "made of fire". It's made mostly of hydrogen and helium. Its heat and light come from nuclear fusion, a very different process that doesn't require oxygen. Ordinary fire is a chemical reaction; fusion merges hydrogen nuclei into helium, and produces much more energy.

It's probably a little bit of that, yes, but the "based on conversations you have with others!" seems to imply that its directions will change. Which in turn, hints at mission objectives.
While I dont think its gonna be open-world, I think its pretty much confirmed at this point based off of the map design, that its far, FAR less linear than Kalos. The route design and island spread shows that pretty clearly. Pokemon's a casual game first and foremost, so if youre gonna go a non-linear...

We now have

With the QR Scanner, you scan in a QR Code and check the information about the Pokémon that corresponds to that QR Code. There are QR Code patterns in various places all around you, so try scanning them.

So you scan a code and get a Pokémon. If it's not registered in the dex, you get its blank Pokedex entry.
