They're synergy stones like in Pokken. Or they're redesigned Mega Evolution stones. Or they're something completely new.
Either way they have something to do with the box legends.
Ok, I know this is cliche but what if both games acknowledge the fact that there is another universe and that stone is the only way to communicate with the other person? It could be revieled throughout the game but actually happen after you beat the elite 4 the first time.

I'm looking forward to seeing Meowth as it's not been featured in any regional dex since Johto. I never used it because its moveset was shit, hopefully a few gens later it'll be more fun to use in-game.
There's a few Unova mons we didn't see in Kalos or Hoenn, like Vullaby, Blitzle and Sewaddle, that I think could work well in Alola.
I'm also hoping to see forgotten mons like Mankey, Venonat and Stantler.

a) male protagonist has a bracelet with yellow diamond and female protagonist has a bracelet with blue diamond.
b) Yellow diamond is in Pokemon Moon logo and blue diamond is in Pokemon Sun logo
