The fact that you are shit aside, it gets old. There was nothing on his character most of the time if there was no girl: Just the older guy that makes food for the humans and pokemon.
Don't get me wrong, I liked him at first, but later on it was boring and just meh.
On the other hand, now they kinda do this with Bonnie, asking girls to be the waifus of his brother. The difference? They don't do it almost every episode, which is a relief.
tl;dr overused joke gets boring and now is better handled.

Wow. So they're probably going to change gambler to gamer then, huh? Why can't they just leave old classics alone? Give them more ESRB descriptors or something? These VC releases obviously only cater to the older fans anyway. No younger kid wants to play Gen1.
I bet they'll remove the entire game corner, too. Walk in the front door and it just takes you straight to the Rocket hideout. Door removed from the prize room, making Porygon unobtainable. I really, really wouldn't put it past them.
