What was the last pokemon game that you enjoyed playing

I was never really a big fan of Gen 3 (to the point I can't really say I had any favorites from the Hoenn Dex) but I surprisingly was satisfied when playing through ORAS, especially when experiencing the Delta Episode. These games made me appreciate Hoenn just a little bit more.

Without Gen1, nothing else follows
Actually a hard choice, in the end I went for gen 2 and gen 5. GSC are objectively the best games but gen 5 gets points for its pokemon roster and BW2.

Think of your profession, like a trainer class. It doesn't have to be an existing trainer class. It can be your job or hobby or anything that you think describes you as a person, like Student, Film Buff, or Urologist.
Next, come up with a team for yourself that would be related to that title, like how Artists in-game often use Smeargle or Aroma Ladies use Roselia/flowery Pokemon a lot. Consider relevancy as well as personal taste and potential usefulness (to your craft/hobby, not battle). Justifications can be flimsy if your title is really specific or there just aren't many related Pokemon. Also consider sharing your justifications if they are flimsy.
Hard Mode: Don't put NEET.
Hard Mode 2: Try to keep Type semi-consistent like actual NPCs do.

Last time was the Accelgor line, today will be about the electric mud fish Sunfisk.
My thoughts: Say hello to Dunsparce 2.0. This Pokemon is just so silly looking that half of the fanbase can't help but like it.
Goofy looks aside, I've never used one. Electric/Ground is a unique typing, but I hope GF introduces a much better, more usable one in the future. Conceptwise, Stunfisk is based on a flounder or a stargazer, a fish that spends its time buried underneath the sea floor, emitting electrical discharges of disturbed. Interesting.

Dunsparce is my favorite Pokemon and Stunfisk is not very far behind. My favorite type of Pokemon are the dopey weird ones and Stunfisk meets all my standards. Top tier Pokemon. I've used one on my team in every game where you can catch one.

Am I the only one who never actually uses starters in a play through?
I usually get them to about level 20-30 and then in the box they go as I fill my team with "real" pokemon.
I think it has something to do with them not being natural to me. Not being able to catch them in the wild. And other trainers rarely ever having them. They feel like handouts as opposed to a part of my team.
Why is this?

They aren't handouts though. It's implied that they're necessary to make sure you don't get killed by a Pidgey/Zigzagoon/whatever in case it breaks out of a thrown ball or you can't escape. Handouts are shit like the elemental monkeys in BW1, Lapras in Gens 1 and 6, the Hitmons, Lucario in XY and Latios/Latias in ORAS.

But why wouldn't they make them obtainable in the wild, so they feel mlre natural. Why wouldn't they expand the options so the prof gives you the choice of any 3 evolution line with similar stats?
It would make it so much more believable.
