Can I tell you a secret? There's no easy trick or change in strategy that's going to rank you up. You just have to aim and move better. That's it. If you can kill two or three people in every teamfight you're going to be ranking up consistently.

Yes, you can gain XP and loot boxes from playing custom games with just bots and yourself, but not as much as if you play a matchmade game

You can unlock anything except the Origins skins without ever spending a dime. The best skins will require a lot of luck though.

You unlock skins by either getting them out of loot boxes, which you earn every time you level up, or paying gold which you also get out of loot boxes

It's not grindy at all. There are no runes to buy or heroes to unlock or anything else that might grant players an advantage. Literally the only thing you'll get from grinding are cosmetics.

I got one shot by my own rocket earlier as Pharah at full hp. I had literally just stepped on a large health pack, turned a corner to kill a genji I knew was there (I concussive blasted him away from the health pack so he couldnt heal)
He reflects the rocket back at me point blank and I die.
