My problem with EVE is that there's really nothing that lucrative. It's why so many ships are gatecamping. If there's not a carrier+ in the hangar, there's really nothing that's going to make more than starter FW.. AKA, sitting on a beacon doing nothing. The question is, "Where's the loot?" Why can't there be more of it? If everything from SP training through drop multipliers was increased incredibly, everything would be more prevalent: titans, sov infiltration, and standard play.

Not even "non-meme" corps have a non-obnoxious application process. Due to the nature of this game it is in the interest of every corp to know (within legal means) everything about the applicant. This usually is just a full API plus an interview and/or questionnaire.
You can always just create a corp just for yourself and become a tax evader. Just shitpost in local/public channels/help channels every once in a while if you feel lonely

PL is obviously becoming the hated nearly unassailable group that the CFC was for years, but it won't last forever.
PL has been elitist so far, but it's looking to me like the rot is starting inside. For all groups, eventually you have have old guard unsubbing, FCs that haven't been truly tested by the fire of when the group was rising against opposition, and poor quality recruits that are bandwagoning something that appears successful.
On the other hand, what it means to defeat a group without sov is a bit more difficult to define. With goons, there were two targets - their sov, and their supers. The sov is a straightforward metric, but the supers never showed up. With PL, if they never take sov, how would you attack them? try to cause internal splits, cause corps to leave? try to defeat (i.e., destroy) their super fleet decisively once or twice?

PL is also highly nomadic so its unlikely that you'll "kill them off" like goons were

cargo scanners are very valuable when you're trying to max your isk/hr
when I personally started exploring I never used one because I wanted to get as much experience on the hacking minigame as I felt I needed to never fail it again barring really unlucky spawns

Eh... It's hard to recommend industry if you're fresh off the boat because you really do need a lot of capital to start off with. First to buy the prints, which can go anywhere from 20 million to 200 million depending on what it is, and then buy the materials to produce the print, which vary obviously depending on what the item is.

Once you get into it, industry is fantastic passive income. I use a DST to haul materials to my production factory and a Wreathe or couriers to haul them back. It practically runs itself if you level Supply Chain Management and use couriers to haul to and from your factory.

Depends on what you get into. Ideally, once you get settled in, you'll have a ton of different blueprints for a lot of different products you can make, and you'll alternate between them depending on the flow of supply/demand. I have a couple that I ALWAYS produce because they're safe markets with a pretty healthy profit margin, and then I alternate between different goods that eeb and flow constantly, and sometimes I tank my prices to get competition to fuck off.
Start off with some regular trading to build up capital to get some starter prints, as you'll probably be doing that anyways as you wait for goods to produce. You need to do a lot of market research to see what goods you can produce for healthy profits, and always remember to view price history so that you don't end up thinking you'll make a profit on something when that something is just in a bubble. Always shoot for at least 10% profit, and remember about factory fees and sales tax/broker fees.

In the high slots, get a cloak and probe launcher. Do not use a faction launcher. Use a T2 if you already have the skillpoints.
Sisters core scanner probes.
In the mids, a microwarpdrive, scan acquisition array, cargo scanner (use this to scan cans before you hack them so you don't waste time hacking empty cans), relic analyzer.
In the lows, you can either put in nanofiber internal structure or you can use a combination of nanofibers, intertials stabilizers and warp core stabilizers.
I just use nanofibers because I'm good at paying attention, so I warp off before people lock me.
In the rigs, put in scanning rigs (gravity capacitor upgrade)

We've been toying with the idea of balancing ships that only have two mid slots for a while now. We aren't too compfortable rolling them out all at once so we're going to release one set of changes and never bother with the rest.
The wolf has been in the limelight recently as being a ship in desperate need of balance to make it viable. Most suggestions for the wolf boil down to tweaking the midslots to make it more in line with the jaguar. It is our feeling that two midslots on the wolf make it unique and offers an interesting fitting challenge, but we do feel the wolf needs buffing. To compensate for the lack of both a scram and web with a propulsion module, we are going to increase the base speed by 2m/s.
The punisher was recently balanced with other t1 frigates, yet players feel more work needs done on it. Our changes are working as intended and you are entitled if you think it needs more.
There's been talk about the dragoon needing some changes in regard to its ability to conduct capacitor warfare. Players have commented that the dragoon with only two mids cannot support a rack of energy neutralizers with a cap injector as you are unable to fit one after fitting a propulsion module and a warp scrambler. We understand this plight and have decided to remove two highslots from the dragoon. With less neuts to fit capacitor issues will not be as prevelant.
Also in this batch of changes we'd like to roll out a nerf for the svipul. We have been working on this for some time now consulting with the t3d focus group by ignoring everything they've said to us. We have concluded the best change is to increase the sig radius of the svipul but 3m, but are also increasing the base power grid by 4 as we feel that artillery fits have to sacrifice too much.
In unrelated news we have increased the mass of all caldari ships by 2%. We feel this change is necessary

The best advice I can give is don't be afraid to change your UI. Diffirent scenarios call for diffirent priorities. For example:
Flying in a fleet? Well, you'll probably need your overview stretched from top to bottom.
Solo PvP? Dscan and local window needs to be bigger than usual.
Doing incursions? Fleet history and two chat windows need to be up all the time.

What level is your faction at? 3 is OK, 4 is good, 5 is get off your ass and grind right now for LP.
Keep in mind that when LP is easy to get, the conversion to isk is going to be bad. The optimal plan is to farm lp when your faction is on top and cash out when it seesaws in a few months. Of course this isn't reasonable for newbies, so just cash out intelligently using the fuzzworks site to pick your items.
