The point of Kotl is you focus him and lose a long game or don't focus him and lose a short game. He's one of the best ganking supports because Mana Leak is so broken, Illumination is for farming and splitpushing, mana leak is for killing or getting your carries kills.
Look at this shit.
I forced this team to win. From the start Omni and CK were fighting over last hits and everyone was whining about Venge mid (who went 5-0-1 in 10 minutes partially thanks to me but mostly just him). Medusa played farming simulator and went with the hot new build from 2009, somehow still ended up carrying us late game, I really don't know how but yeah.
Eventually Omni gets so pissed off he just stops grouping with us at all and farms jungle. We pick off WR, the sole hero on the enemy team holding their team together and Medusa just 1v4s while focusing the rax and Huskar kills us all, comes out with 3 kills and 70% of his health and still had the aegis. Mind fucking boggling that I got carried by this Medusa in the end, but whatever.
Anyways I'm on a tangent.
KotL HAS to be focused and has to be initiated on otherwise blinding light slaps your shit with an 80% blind while mana leak and also blinding light fucks up your team's positioning hard. Illuminate absolutely chunks even with only 2 or 3 points in it, and it further fucks up your team's positioning, and if he chakra magics someone with a stun that's a -4 second cooldown on it, so even more team disruption during a fight if it goes on for longer than 6 seconds.
And if you do blow everything you have to kill KotL, as their WR so desperately did, you then don't have much left to kill the rest of the team with, and most of the time KotL still got off at least 1 or 2 spells.
KotL is really fucking strong with the right team comp or any enemy lineups that rely on fast speeds or right clicking.
So WR Ursa Axe Dark Seer and Huskar were all fucked over by me, Huskar less so since he has a self purge.

when youre playing support veno you go to lane with a tango, salve, clarity and 2 gg branches. the first skillpoint is either gale (if you can get a kill at the rune) or sting to harass the offlaner. you go 1-1-3. by that time you shouldve won the lane and you can take some time to ward and farm the jungle. make some good rotations then go back to warding and farming jungle. then get some pickoffs and push towers with plague wards. repeat until won.
