Yes, you almost always need him but whomever playing him basically has the least input on how the match goes because the hero has the lowest skill ceiling in the game. Playing him solo queue is SUICIDE if you want to constantly gain rank.

I played with a 321, he was literally the worst player I've ever seen. Just jumped into 4+: of the enemy team as Winston when he knows they have a reaper. Jumps and shields every chance he gets into the enemy and spams I need healing. Yells at our tracer for not getting the reaper and he never used his monkey ult. That's it. The hero relies more on his team than any other hero in the game. You're basically a walking aura.
I had a game yesterday on King's Row where our team insisted to go double healer to take point A. We couldn't, even with sound barrier (twice). It was an even match in skill according to match making but the other team won simply because they captured the first point I don't like blaming team mates for losses (because that hampers self-improvement) but if my team can't utilize the heals/sound barriers enough to take the first point in a Hybrid map then I should have just let the Mercy handle all the healing while I switch to a more appropriate hero.

Here's the kicker, he's not doing that bad, other than picking a new hero each match because he wants to learn. I give him advice as often as I can but I don't want to come off as condescending.
But the games were such insanely one-sided stomps I haven't seen in quick play once. Only explanation I can come up with is that the game filled our team with players with his mmr(his level is in single digits) but because I was there too the opponents had higher average mmr.
I'm just going to avoid him for like a week so can get his mmr up playing people in his own bracket and then we should probably be fine playing together, but it's still annoying I have to actively dodge him instead of just choosing to appear as offline.

He works best in a really tanky lineup. Stay behind your allies while giving them harmony orbs and hit the enemies you aim at the discord. Position him sort of like you would position Mercy; a backline healer.

Zenyatta is an offensive support. You can't change a lot about him without losing that nomer. If you make him sturdier, he pretty much outright becomes an offensive hero. If you buff his damage/attack abilities, the same applies.
Here's some stuff that might help him out without making him overpowered.
a) Make his orbs of discord completely bypass Rein/Winston shields so you can support your flankers by turning tanks squishy and squishies into wet paper.
b) Give him -some- sort of movement option. Hovering, a quick dash on cooldown in exchange for recalling orbs, faster movement speed while orbs are up, just fucking something.
c) Orb of Harmony only heals 25hp/s, but you can give two teammates one OR LoS restrictions no longer apply, but it only heals 15hp/s if your target is behind an obstacle.

Because of the teleport means people don't see it when running out of the mostly light blue/silver ship. On every map where you don't spawn in the ship my teleport gets used 70% more.
I had one game where I had a teleport up for 3 minutes and it had no uses because everyone ran past it to get into the fight.

They built the game with that concept as a pillar, so obviously they will not remove that without a huge fight.
For me the main issues, outside of esports, because fuck that shit, is the hard counters design forces you to play heros that you don't feel attracted at all to its gameplay and the team comp strats are just cheeses that are just guess games that you can't effectively answer to it without significant "damage", it's basically a Bo5 RPS game with the checkpoints serving as a win if the attackers gets their cheesy comp to work.
Maybe if they somehow added a mechanic so that you could change heros as defenders outside of spawn it would alleviate or remove the cheesy strats that really has no depth and aren't strategically engaging to the players.

Roadhogs M2 sends out a ball of scrap that explodes into the normal shotgun shot after around 10 in game meters. This lets him deal his full damage a medium range and lets you fire up flak to try and deter longer range attackers. But if the ball hits a target before it explodes it will deal 25 damage or so.
Learning the range of the alt fire will let you literally delete people from medium range. Any class with less health than a tank will not be able to survive a well placed alternate Roadhog shot.

And all the evidence shows that you can be 10-0 or 5-5 and it won't really matter. There are 40s kids who got 8-2 or 9-1 and still got put there, same for 50s kids that went 4-6 and still didn't fall in the 40s, so at the very very best you'd get 5 extra points compared to where you started before the first placement.
Even from personal experience on the first day, the 50s kids were still average, some of them were clearly 40s kids that got boosted through premades. This ranked system isn't like LoL or whatever where you can go 10-0 and be gold V or go 5-5 and be bronze I.

How many matches can I leave before I start getting penalties in Competitive?
I've recently been put in a string of unfortunate team setups where they're obviously trolling, or just being obnoxious.
Shit like 2 torbjorns on attack, or 3 Hanzo on attack for fucking hanamura, or 3 genji on defense for anubis.
I've basically come to the conclusion that there isn't really any point to playing those games, but I'm curious what the best course of action would be to do here, as I'm going to lose anyway.
I could AFK, but have the match drag on for years, and I have to keep moving my character every once in a while.
Just straight up leaving the match, but I don't really want to spam this too often as I would still like to be able to play competitive.
Anything else I can do? Feeding or whatnot does nothing to make the matches end faster at all which is unfortunate.
