Tips:
You can change vocations at level 10 at the Gran Soren inn or BBI.
Character appearance can be changed later on.
You don't need pawns, but they help.

I don't think I ever play mage. Except in Diablo-likes. For Kingdom of Amalur, Dark Souls, Dragon's Dogma or the Elder Scrolls, I always go for Warrior and end with abusing the bow.

I almost always play mages or archers, sometimes I'll play a spellsword/enchanter type character. Rarely play pure melee niggers, Dark Souls is the only exception really since I usually go with spears or swords in that. Magick Archer is a godsend, though I'd prefer if you could also shoot normal arrows that didn't home and had a trajectory and shit.

It's good regardless, the spells are stronger though. Like MA, you can even play it as a support class if you're a madman. In fact I wonder how well it would do against daimon using the holy wall thing on the shield with a firing squad of ranger pawns behind you...
>>
>>147320005
not him, but how much worse would it be going full physical?

I'm currently building a warrior/assassin but I want to keep my options open for trying out MK especially since I like Abyssal Anguish
>>
>>147320041
You get plenty of magic from weapons generally. I'm actually not sure how it works with MK though since you cast with your sword and full physical swords seem to work fine. If magic cannon works the same as the gazer's cannon, physical attack on the weapon that strikes it determines the magic damage produced (because a low level character does 0 damage, only knockdown, on that cannon to the eye), so the other sword spells may work similarly.
>>
>>147320005
Can I not bother with minmaxing then, and just switch to it now at level 11?
>>
>>147320041
Physical MK is great. I use Abyssal Anguish, one physical skill, and Stone Jungle for nuking things on the side (even with physial based stats/gear, it deals a shit load of damage and stuns big enemies).

Physical MK is so strong, that I actually once killed Grigori during the chase sequence when he's breathing fire from the hallway. It skipped the entire boss fight sequence and the credits rolled right then and there. The maxed out BBI mace gives you attack power on par with a Warrior (it's only like 100 weaker maybe), plus the fast moveset of a Fighter, plus the stacked damage from AA and whatever other enchantments you have. Physical MK is one of the most OP builds in the game, it's just not as versatile as some other classes (though you can fix that by carrying a staff to switch to when needed).

His quests definitely make him look like a weak ass, but he as a good physical build and if you talk to him between quest, he gifts you rare items only found in dangerous areas. Also when you complete the last quest, he gives you post-game monster materials.

Valmiro isn't a weakling, he's feigning being hurt so you'll give him curatives because he ran out and he's too much of a cheapass to buy more. Hi guys, I was looking at this sheet and don't quite understand it: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EBa1CNhY9LXq7qbyV6Gj4jxBmHSbc3ASp3rIrBrAxpI/edit#gid=274777126

So from what I understand of DD's damage system, each attack has a multiplier for your character's base Strength/Magic stats, and another multiplier for the weapon's stats. So the sheet has those values included, which is basically what you'd expect. But then it ALSO has an extra stat: "Power"? Does anybody know what that's supposed to mean? Is it a flat amount of damage added after the multipliers to strength/magic, or something?

What makes strider/ranger pawns more liable to use actually good strats like climbing/hundred kisses or tenfold spam? Do inclinations help there or do you really have to limit your pawns to as few skills as possible? Been playing for a while, just really in the dark when it comes to pawn metagame

>>
>>147328693
My Ranger only has Tenfold Flurry. Even then, she didn't use blast arrows until suddenly one day she did. I originally gave her Tenfold only because with Barbed Nails and goldforged Revenant, a pawn can stunlock Eliminators and kill certain enemies really quickly with certain status arrows by spamming tenfold. And if they have multiple skills, pawns will stop spamming tenfold in order to do other stuff.

Then one day she just started using Blast Arrows. I had her carry them for me whenever I farmed Death/Daimon. I've heard of training pawns, idk if it's a real thing, but maybe she saw me tenfold blast bosses so much that she started doing it herself.

I've heard Scather makes pawns more likely to climb. The first time I saw a Strider pawn do this was with the pawn in this video, who was a Scather: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lz-VYXtevYU

My own Strider was also a Scather. Even then, they don't always do it, and sometimes other pawns in your party will screw it up anyways. Like sorcerers who like to Gicel the cyclops as you're climbing it.

Fighters with aggressive inclinations will spam Dragon's Maw a lot if they have the stamina for it and are surrounded by enemies. My Fighter just happened to have picked up a couple sour ambrosials in the Lost City or w/e it's called, and ran into a big group of eliminators in a narrow alley.
>>
So last. Might I gave the bandit chief several skulls. He says "this deserves some merit!" After 3 or 4 he just gives you the group.oire. I'm not going to gift him back the grimoire. To see his reaction. I will spending much of this playthrough trying to romance this bandit.

Can somebody see what happens if you steal it and then give it to him?

Edit. He's given me a quest now. This is all new to me. I've played through this game quite a few times. Never knee he would dish out quests.

>>
>>147330738
Agreed.
You have to play the class you want to play, simple as that. Mix and match other classes to get their augments for 10 or 20 levels and you have a balanced build that won't be numbingly dull after 12 hours of powerleveling with Veteran's Priapt always on.

As a rule of thumb I'd say aim for at least 400 defense and 250 magical defense, should be enought to have good survivability. Physical attack and magical attack just depends on your personal tastes.

got it during the sale last week and having a blast so far.
The weirdest thing to me is the death system, though. Why do you time travel to an earlier point in time when you die? Especially since a big point of the game is that how your pawn learns from your actions.
They could've made it so that you get punished for failing, but your pawn learns from it. The way it is now, the game doesn't punish you at all.
Game Over screens are a relic of arcade times, and any game using them is actively crippling itself.
>>
New to the game, lvl 30 now, did 15 levels as strider and 15 as fighter to get beefy and to get some augments. Is it viable if I switch to sorcerer now or are my spells going to hit like wet paper?
I heard it helps to get some magic defenses for the endgame.
>>
>>147333306
A system à la Dark Souls where you respawn and people comments on you dying would've been real fun.
Plus it woulda made the Arisen real badasses instead of just making them superhumans.
>>
>>147333417
the comparison that always comes to my mind is Shadow of Mordor, just because it also does some witty NPC AI shenanigans. I played that game for hours just raising and killing ork chiefs.
Just imagine all the pawn dialogue about how he's sorry you got eaten by some monster.
The game does the whole persistent world thing decently, so it just feels really weird how they decided to add a simple fail state instead of a mechanic that made sense. Why is it so infuriating to see a good game stop right before reaching the next level of quality?
>>
>>147331123
honestly just use reshade and sweetfx, it's a thousand times less ugly
>>
>>147333697
Don't talk to me about Shadow of Mordor. I hit the max level before even doing 75% of the game simply because tracking and hunting orcs bosses was that fun.
>Just imagine all the pawn dialogue about how he's sorry you got eaten by some monster.
And the NPCs surprised to see you trying again.
>"But Arisen, you got killed last time! Do you want to die again?"

The main beef I have with Dragon's Dogma is that it does a fine job of explaining the whole ecosystem, but it also makes Gran Soren small as fuck and doesn't really explain if there's a bigger world at large or not.
The map is just so damn small, and yet you often have to walk a long time to find anything. They should've added horses or something.

>>
>>147336059
>>147336609
On console, I had 3 level 200s that I played regularly, and a couple more that I didn't really touch. I couldn't even remember what it was like to not be 200.

>Can farm 1mil RC for myself, or anybody else, in ~10 minutes by farming Death
>Can kill Daimon about a dozen times in an hour
>Enough abyssinal sets for every character I have
>Can do Lv.3 Gear runs in ~5 minutes, each run gets 1 or 2 gear on average
>Even have low level alts set up in full Lv.3 armor so I can farm Savior Ring by making new accounts and bumrushing to the quest, then gifting it to main pawns

Playing PC where I couldn't rely on my main accounts to powerlevel and farm gear/RC for me was refreshing.

Started a sorcerer playthrough and decided I may as well do some of the quests I'd normally never bother with, like going to Witchwood. Specifically, because I was curious who Selene is and why everyone and their grandma seems to have a boner for her. I lost all my fucking pawns to bandits, had to run through about 20 bandits and 5000 wolves, nearly died 7 times and had to fight everything in Witchwood solo as a fucking rank 2 sorcerer. Only kept going out of sheer desire to find Selene, plowed through the fucking miasma and finally reached the hut. And what am I greeted by? An autistic child.

I am judging all of you so fucking hard right now.

Assassin's got a lot of cool attacks, as well as a couple counter moves that work sort of like Assassin's Creed combat. The problem is that other than cling+slash and the counters, the other skills don't have the same kind of utility and/or power as the major skills of other yellow vocations (or the MK). I love the class for the variety, though. Switching from daggers to sword to bow to shield skills is pretty fun.

Just bought the game. Would you recommend playing on a controller? It's a capcom game and the menu is rather funky so far. Whats the gameplay like on keyboard?

>>
>>147343504
>>147343624
fuck keyboard, this game works best on controller.
they all have grab, and you can throw them too. And you can climb on large monsters.
>>
>>147343504
Both Keyboard and controller and Gamepad work fine, it's a matter of preference. I like keyboard with the AHK script in the OP more.
>>
>>147343504
Both works fine. I guess most of us are playing in with a controller because we're coming from the PS3 version.
I would advise the controller tough

>>147343624
Every class is fun. Depends on what do you like to be. Fast, strong, magic, with magic powers or not...
It's up to you.
Every class can grab and climb monsters. But if you want to climb monster and hit them and the speed of light. Then go for the strider or ranger class.
Assassin is pretty good too since you can also use swords.
>>
>>147310705
From Cassardis it's not as bad. Still bad though. Can you open the shortcut through the mine?
>>
>>147343182
As long as you don't do a pure fighter/assassin or mage/sorcerer build, you'll be fine (and you'll still be fine in those builds if you're focusing on physical or magical skills, respectively). The game doesn't really punish you for playing whatever you want to play.

That said, I'd prioritize magic a little more than physical attack if you want to main MK.
>>
>>147344571
Forgot to include prioritize physical slightly over magical if you want to main assassin.
>>
Wait, is vocation rank not bound to level?
But stat increase is, right?
So I can't just pump my vocation to 10 and get a more rounded stat set? How do the vocation ranks even work, the wiki page on vocations is garbage.
>>
>>147344775
Whenever you kill an enemy, you get Discipline points, which, besides allowing you to buy skills, raise your Vocation Rank.
Raising your Vocation Rank means access to new skills and new Augments. You can check the wiki for Discipline points needed for ranking up a Vocation, and a list of Augments to plan your build.
>>
>>147344775
Vocation levels up as you collect discipline points, which are a separate pool from exp. You gain discipline points based on your xp gains, though--a certain percentage, which depends on how much xp you gain per kill/quest. You get a higher percentage at lower xp gains.

You spend discipline points to unlock vocations (the first time you switch to that vocation only) as well as skills and augments; this does NOT affect leveling up in your vocation.

Different vocations require more or less earned discipline points to level up than others.

personally I feel like there's a lot more you can do with M+KB much easier, but controller has always just been more intuitive/more comfortable for some people, especially for this game

if you are going to play M+KB I suggest that you figure out what your primary/secondary skill bindings are going to be very early on and commit to them. bow mode too, if you're going to use one

You might wanna postpone that quest until you are at least level 10 and you can buy better weapons at the capital.
Have you been to the capital yet?
>>
>>147350510
Anything other than mage for your main character. Mage is okay for a pawn as that's the only vocation that can heal, so especially in the beginning (when you don't have an excess of healing items), having a mage on hand is quite useful.

That said, you can switch between vocations pretty easily and there's no real penalty for doing so, so feel free to experiment. Having multiple sorcerers can allow you to pull off world-ending spells faster; having a pioneer tanky pawn can help take the heat off your ranged/casty character, but pawns don't make great aggro-collectors, so keep that in mind. If you want a pawn to do as much dps as possible, strider is one of the better options. But those are all just suggestions.
>>
>>147351793

Enemies don't scale and this game doesn't really hand hold. If you can't kill something then most likely you're not supposed to be there.

You should absolutely buy better weapons as soon as you have the chance, and though money is tight in the early game, there are some ways to get some better ones.

The easiest way to make a little money in the very beginning of the game is escort quests. If you talk to the villagers in cassardis enough, their affection will grow to the point where escort missions will pop up on the quest board there; several people in cassardis want to go to Warrior's Rest, which is pretty much right next to the encampment, meaning relatively quick, easy money.

Don't take on escort quests anywhere else at this point in the game unless you really want to go on a grand, difficult adventure, though.

The quickest way to make money in a new game, though this is substantially more dangerous, is on Bitterblack Island. If you go to the Cassardis docks at night (I think you have to have gotten your main pawn first), you'll find a woman who can take you to an area that's meant as post-game content. If you accept all the quests at the quest board here, run past the first area and into the second, you'll find a safe area with a merchant. Interact with him and loot that area, and with a little luck you should get a few dozen thousand gold, more than enough to get you decently equipped for the beginning of the game. (Warning: going to Bitterblack Island before you're ready will make it difficult to hear a little of the lore connected to the BBI campaign.)

Reynard, the merchant you find being assaulted on the road on your way out of cassardis for the first time, can also enhance your equipment, and he hangs out at the encampment until you do the hydra head quest. If you have the materials and extra money for it, you can enhance your weapons for more attack power.

It's shit with the mouse regardless, clicks are weird, unresponsive and often when you try to click something it selects something else. There's also things that I think are issues even with a controller, like the second or so delay before you can interact with some menus which is tedious and annoying and the way that not all of your skills show up on the right when you're learning skills until you click the category.
>>

Assassin is the least fun class imo, apart from gale harness and that one sword skill where you place an explosive charge and detonate it with a fuse that has high knockdown. Even then the latter isn't very useful in my experience. Assassin gameplay boils down to using gale harness thousand kisses or dire gouge while clinging to your foe (m1 spam) or counters like masterful kill (which make the combat feel like assassin's creed's, a franchise known mainly for nearly everything but its combat because the combat is trash). In the case of clinging to things, strider and magick archer get more fun variations on that imo.

Not the most worthless class though, that's mage. Mages are just shitty sorcerers with anodyne for if you somehow can't stay very light while carrying enough curatives. And Grapnel, an overlooked and underrated skill but still not enough to elevate the class above any other imo.

I thought I needed RC earlier but now I don't cus I finally got the level 3 I wanted. Also earlier I was 111 but now I'm nearing 150. Good luck though, reminds me I need to send the pawns I was doing Daimon runs with back.

>>147357673
Depends. You're in for a fun time if you're careful and methodical and like a challenge. BBI is doable as soon as you can access it, I went there at level 10 this run and if you get stuck I might or might not be headed to the beach tomorrow for freedom day but if not I'll probably be around to offer advice.

On the other hand, you'll get super strong weapons and armour and shitloads of levels, so it will totally trivialise the main game since you'll be overleveled and overgeared. However, I feel the main game, which I did first in my first run, is pretty easy regardless. Many people also become frustrated with BBI's difficulty even at high levels so if you're not gud it can be bad.

I'd actually recommend for your first run you do the main game first so you experience it as it is intended, but if you back up your save to start a new run (not NG+ but an entirely new level 1 character) or start over try out going to Bitterblack early because it's a tonne of fun.

This weeb has a couple of runs up that sort of explain the run and showcase some strategies he came up with to deal with his custom challenge (though he breaks his own rule about online a bit for rift crystals; I also played online for rift crystals in my recent run but didn't do any save scumming so I can confirm that isn't really a necessity).

On second thought, he doesn't look all that rapey, here's a better one.

She's had a crush on you since you were both like 6 or something.

Since I imagine you are trying to avoid spoilers I will be as vague as possible: interacting with characters and doing quests that help them raises their affinity towards you. Right now, Quina has high affinity because you saved her from wolves and shit.
A character having high affinity will also affect something else down the road.

What is a good class I can switch to after leveling as a sorc for like 100 levels?

She's not your actual cousin, that's just what everyone in cassardis calls each other because the village is so small that they're probably all related anyway.

When can I buy the potion that resets my pawns inclinations? The guy doesn't sell it yet for me.
>>
>>147370401
What guy?
As far as I know, only the merchant in The Encampment sells it, the one right next to the Riftstone, and I don't remember it being a timed thing but I'm not really 100% sure about that either.

Julien and she-goat are from other kingdoms. I assume they're across the water, which makes me wonder about the brine.

I'm pretty sure they only cuddled each other and somehow Aelinore left her pantsu in the bed
>>
>>147372783
Boats are clearly okay despite the brine. The people of cassardis would bemoan not being able to go out in boats to fish if they couldn't, and several of the villagers were put on the water during the dragon attack, and it's strongly implied the brine showed up immediately after the attack--presumably sooner than far-ranging boats could have returned.

And yeah, I imagine the countries that Mercedes and snek-boi come from are on the mainland where the church headquarters are, though that sort of implies Gransys is an island of some kind. Maybe britain-ish?
>>
>>147373409
Aelinore left her pantsu because she was fucking one of the guards before you showed up.

or maybe a goblin
>>
>>147373409
>turns out she forced her pantsu into Arisen's mouth and furiously pegged him/her

Aelinore is dangerous, guys, be careful.

I think Gransys is not-Britain and Hearthstone is not-France.
I forget the name of the place where Julien comes from but I guess that is not-Austria.

I did forget, and I'm bitter she fucked off before I had the Bond to give her. Oh well, I'll save whatever rando the game picks.

>>147373564
Hmm... good point. I want the Brine to be some cthulu mother fucker, but it's more like a bunch of pirahna. Maybe only idling in the water counts for real world, as opposed to DONT GO DEEP ARISEN.
