You DON'T need all the useful runes. You can have the basics and do fine, which means that only when you get experienced enough will you need the runes, and you should have the IP for them then or be able to grind out the IP for them.
It makes perfect sense that when you play the game more, you know what champs you want, what runes you want and are willing to grind out for them.
We aren't talking about Koreans here, we are talking about how games use certain generic mechanics to either lengthen the game by creating a grind, or entertain the reward of progression.

The idea is to have definitions as to what is a "tank", what is an "AD carry" and etc.
That way they don't have assassins that become overpowered tanks (See: Ekko for a long as fuck time).
Set definitions give you a focal point of balancing so that everything isn't up in the fucking air.

Instead of an item giving a certain number of each stat it's more like a framework. Each stat has different levels of component items, like the progression from Amp Tome Blasting Wand and NLR, and if you wanted to make, say a Morello you could chose how expensive you wanted it to be. For example you could make it with a Codex, Chapter and amp, or a theoretical 60Ap 20% CDR item a theoretical 60 AP 800 mana item and a blasting wand. The idea would be that a Morello for example gives CDR and mana, but how much is variable depending on how much you want to spend on it. Probablt to complicated for lol but a fun idea.

I feel like there are a lot more things that go into the game than raw end game stats that cause people to climb, seems like more of a "feel good" website than anything REALLY useful.

Tier 2 runes being 1IP each is a good jumping off point that'll get you to 30 (and then some) easy. You're not supposed to own every champ, just the ones you play during free week and enjoy. Do you set goals for your purchases?
As for not knowing how to lane against a Diana, we all have that m'dude. It happens/you need to study up on their kits after the game so you don't get blindsided again. Hell, I've been playing off and on since beta and there's still champions I have yet to touch (I've only played Rek Sai once.)

Yeah, unlocking champs and runes fucking sucks, but Riot makes a ton of their money off champ sales so there's really nothing to be done about it except give you advice on how to unlock stuff efficiently:
on efficiently using IP:
get your first win of the day every day, even if you only have time for one game, then practice cs'ing in a co-op vs. ai, 150 IP is a big boost that adds up fast.
IF you resort to spending RP on champions, try to only buy champs when they're on 50% off sale, and further try to only resort to RP for the most expensive champ tiers (6300)
when it comes to hextech crafting, perming shards works similarly: essence per saved IP is more efficient for shards that grant you champs from the more expensive tiers. You should never ever bother spending champion essence to perm a shard for a 450 IP champion, 450 is dirt cheap.
Keep a bank of IP for emergency purchases. Did your favorite Ezreal skin just go on sale? Is the new champion release your waifu forever? If you have a stock of IP, you won't have to resort to spending RP on champ unlocks in that case if you have a bank of 6300 IP ready to go for emergencies, and in the long run that bank only costs you a single champion even though it feels like there's a lot in there.

on acquiring champs you want:
Every time a champ you haven't played before shows up on free week, take the opportunity to try them out and see what they're like. Both to learn what champs you like and to have a basic idea of their kits for when you play against them. Even if it's just bot games until you can stomp with the kit, you'll have a much better understanding of what their abilities do and when they are powerful which is around 90% of the matchup knowledge you can get without actually playing against that champion in a game.
Write down the champs you want most from each tier and ask yourself very seriously "do i want this 6300 champ? or do i want my two favorite 3150 champs? or do I want 10+ 450 champs?
You don't really want to hear this, but, you don't need every champion, or even a lot of champions. You will get better at the game faster if you focus on a very small number of champions for so many reasons. Even pro players only really have a pool of about 5 champions in a single role at any given time based on what they think is OP or works best in the current meta. The rate of champion unlocks at the very highest tier is about 1 per month, and if you want to get good you should not switch your main champion every single month.
On runes:
Wait for rune page sales to buy them at effectively half price, these happen like 2-3 times per year so if you're ever thinking you need more pages, you should be able to keep your pocket closed long enough to get that discount.
Get a couple generic rune pages that will get you to around 80% efficiency on 90% of champs (AD/armor/mr/AD and mpen/armor/mr/AP covers you so well on so many champs)
runes themselves also occasionally go on a slight sale, although that seems like it's been happening only about once per year at the start of a season.

I've been playing since season 2 and I've seen it change like me and everyone around me. I've made connections with people I didn't expect to even have a mutual interest with, and I still play League with them to this day. But I've also met people I never expected to meet, some of the most interesting characters who I wish I could still enjoy a game with.
League has been there when I needed a distraction from a shitty home, stressed life, or a broken heart.
These days, I don't play League as much since my situation has changed, but I still get on every few days for a ranked game or to play with friends, and I always see the same 15-20 friends who've stayed with the game and me online, ready for one more salt fest.
But I know one of these days that number will be 0. I'll log on for the nostalgia, look through all the champions I've grinded so hard to get, I'll look through all the skins I've bought and have been gifted, and I'll look through my friends list to recall the days when LoL brought a smile to my face. But I'll still see that small 0, letting me know that it's just a memory.
League may have it's flaws, but the community and my friends are what keeps on bringing me back. To all you toxic ragers, silent heroes, tilt masters, and casual players, it's been a fun ride. Let's see where we get.

It's because the carries becoming able to destroy anybody in the game they set out to kill is an inevitability if they aren't retarded, and teamfights turn into "who got caught out or fucked up first"
Tanks don't matter because they die near instantly anyway and you only really build to be durable in Dota for the midgame and to get spell rotations off. People like Earthshaker or Elder Titan seem like they'd be great to build defensive items on, but they have to buy mana and blink and shit, and even if they didn't it wouldn't even be worth it because they just dump their loads and then autoattack for the rest of the fight.
Doesn't help that due to Dota's scaling system of Str/Int/Agi EVERYONE gets defensive stats from common items. Nobody buys shit like Shiva's to be harder to kill, they buy it for the mana and for the active because, guess what, every hero that would want to build defensively is mana and damage-starved, and those items are better than shit like Vanguard or Heart.

CS is weighted WAY too heavily, it honestly shouldn't even be something that's weighted. Gold is what should be counted, that's the actual stat that means something. You shouldn't be rewarded for getting 350 cs at 30 if you're 4/2/3 with 20% kill participation. Unless you took like, every tower. The entire system is retarded, supports shouldn't get lower scores because they have 2 cs instead of the average 12 cs. CS shouldn't even be a weighted stat, it is completely meaningless if you don't have more gold than the enemy team.

I seriously think Riot should make a "Legends of Runeterra" MMO. They're created a universe with a ton of characters, several potentially interesting factions, etc. They've got a lot of lore potential, but League has no good way to explore it. An MMO would let them do that.
I'd imagine a limited skill system like Guild Wars, where you have a skill bar with a limited number of skills. You'd have 2+ basic skills, an ultimate skill, and one "flex" skill that would allow you to pick a skill from another class. Skills could have a couple branching options to have variations of a single skill instead of having multiple nearly identical skills. There'd be a pretty broad selection of skill to start with just by adapting the skills from existing champions.
