since a lot of times the game likes to place hooked players in weird positions, and the shot doesn't always put them down clean, it's faster to follow up with a whack than to try and shoot again
and that split second is often just enough time for those fuckers to get away, since they know they're being hooked and they've already got an escape plan if you fuck up
so if you don't swing, you better hope you can still hit them at range because that's where they'll be by the time the recoil animation stops

Any tips at getting gud with Mercy? I usually play with randoms as Mercy but seem to do decent when I play with friends I can communicate with easier.
We seem to always lose by

Just keep playing anon, youll get used to it eventually. I went from 2000 dpi and 10 sens to 1700 dpi and 4 sens within a couple weeks. I found it easier to slowly lower my sensitivity each day instead of doing it all at once, it kept me from getting discouraged by my god awful play.

FOr achievements you have to play for the achievements and not to win.
I just flanked a lot with Reaper.
I got mine on a Reinhardt, Roadhog and a Soldier.
Reinhardt and Roadhog both were half health from a previous fight but enough time passed for it to count as solo kills.
I also heard you can just kill 1 and then 2 more with ult without reloading inbetween and it counts.
Multikills are also luck if you aren't in shit mmr because people won't stand there and let themselves get killed.
When I tried Reaper quad kill it was really annoying how many heroes just could plain out avoid it.
Got my Hanzo multi thanks to based Zarya.
