MGS2 = Overall poor translation and lack of experience understanding narrative/recurring messages (I'm not even talking interpretation, many, many lines are just basic translation errors 1st year students don't even make, and if the point of a translation is to get the message across this fails. I would red-line most of this script). Very clearly done by someone in their 20s who either got pissed off and didn't give a shit anymore or just likes the sound of their own voice. Wish I had time to write a literal for it, MGS2 is pretty lulz awesome when the words match the visuals etc. luckily all the super corny lines are legit to good translations though some are added which I think should be kept for the lols (I KILLED MAH SOUL etc). But rly it is no wonder people are confused by this game, translation is not good and thus the message and meaning is super muddled. It's obvious after this game Kojima hired a proper translation team. Like, she can bitch all she wants but let's actually look at what this "pittance" got them. It is a near-diabolical translation. She got BASIC Japanese wrong. She flat out made shit up (which is where the "not enough room on the screen shit comes from, her flowery dumb way of writing is not in Kojima's style at all). She cut ENTIRE LINES of text. Imo this was worth LESS than what they paid her. It actually reads like a sabotage. She writes KIND OF ROUGHLY MAYBE what's being said and then flowers it up so the meaning is completely lost in places. This looks like a revenge job and there was nobody to check her. Sounds like you're just favoring one over the other. How Venom felt or what he wanted honestly doesn't deserve any respect or acknowledgement because he really isn't even a character in his own right. He's just an extension of Big Boss and making the distinction between the two is only for the sake of continuity. Usually in stories having two of a character is meant to represent different sides of the same person, but here they are exactly the same. He's honestly less of a human than Solid Snake. He inherits the role of leader purely by chance.
