I actually can't see that. It will say how many units are assigned to that naval invasion on the arrow itself. Units must be assigned manually, and aren't assigned just from being selected when you generate the plan, like normal offensives.

Yes. There is also commander skill and ship stats, though. But superior numbers are most important.
But getting superior numbers is kind of tricky because you never know where the navy is. If you group up all your ships you can patrol limited amount of water, but if you spread them out they can be attacked by superior numbers.
Chokepoints should work extremely well, though. I still want to try my Italian game where I seal off the Mediterranean by cutting off Suez and Gibraltar and placing doomstacks there to prevent Allied navies from entering the Mare Nostrum.

Historically France didn't attack either. They could have overrun the German positions with ease but they didn't. Some light skirmishes, no actual attacks.
I doubt Paradox intentionally programmed it like that, but if that was intentional it'd be historically accurate for France not to attack. Germany had basically nothing on the French border during the campaign in Poland.

Those names are more historically correct. Particularly the "French State." What we today called Vichy France did not call itself that, and there's absolutely no reason why a unified, fascist France would name itself after the de facto capital of the WWII German vassal.

Historically they could have crushed Germany in a matter of weeks in September of 1939. France had superiour equipment and superiour numbers. Sigfriend line was lightly defended with token garrisons. They chose not to do it.

Do you honestly think some 23 divisions can hold against what the French had if they actually attacked full force? I don't know the exact German OOB but I'm 99% sure most were second rate reserve divs without heavy artillery or armour.
